- HAWAIʻI ISLAND - The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports the leading edge of the flow closest to Daniel K. Inouye Highway, aka Saddle Road, has had minimal movement and remains near the 7,000 foot elevation and more than 3 miles from the highway. A new plan for motorists driving up to see the eruption was also announced on Thursday.

I've never visited Hawaii but every time I see reports like this I am impressed by how laid back the people are. Seems like a totally different energy there :D
It's Called LAZY
@@JD-gj2rj No, it's called the spirit of aloha. No rushing or worrying about the small stuff when your in paradise. Enjoy the day and the beauty around you. Saying it's LAZY is nonsensical. It's just not the hustling and bustling way of life dense American cities your used to. You're on a small island, where are you going to go? It's honestly how everyone should live their lives
You so should! I went last year and it was spectacular. Nice people, so much natural beauty and the weather was like always having a warm blanket. Flip flops, shorts and flowy button ups or tank tops. Tons of swimming, some hiking. If you go to Honolulu there are tons of touristic things, old WW2 things to see and beautiful beaches. Everyone is crowded but worth wading through for those great beaches!
Only this guy speaking is so laid-back and making misleading assumptions to the public. This is the same guy that told Hawaii residence a few weeks ago that he does not see any imminent eruption. I don’t think he is born and raised here in Hawaii
It is.
I commend the county for trying to find solutions for the heavy traffic of curious people. I know they can be a problem for traffic flow, but this is a very unique event for a lot of people to witness and the county seems accommodating to that. A great example of the government working for the people while still keeping things safe.
My niece lives close to there. She updates and says at nights the visual treat is amazing.
It's your own same fault 😅😂😂😂 someone forget to turn off her sound?!??
4:35 gave me a good chuckle. Prob forgot to go on mute lol
Thanks for the update! Greetings from the Big Island of Australia!
Wonderful update, thank you! Aloha 🌺🕊️ Love from Australia
Hot mic moment
Magno handled it well😂😀🤔
😄4:31
Excellent and informative, to the point reporting. Much appreciated.
As always I appreciate the update.
I agree with the other lady… It’s definitely Talmadges fault though 😂 Love these updates. I was just there on Big Island in August on holiday from Australia. I travelled Saddle Road several times and it’s weird seeing this now with the eruption happening. Wish I was there now to see it.
4:34 Someones getting fired, or just quit, thug life style live on air😎
Someone forgot to turn her mike off :p
😂😂
Thank You for the current updates. I have family in Puna and Hamakua. Its sets my mind at ease all the way here in Colorado to know that people are on it. Mahalos! Did anyone find out whos d*mn fault it was?
There's no S at the end of MAHALO spell it right or don't use it at all.
Seems Big Island is fortunate that most of the folks who would love to see this spectacle of Nature first hand have no way to travel that far😊. I’m one of ‘em.❤
Beautiful 🤩 pictures 🌋
was that somebody interrupting?
Thanks for the information
Is the summit draining into the fissures and going lower?
Wendy is getting salty. lol Great back story drama.
4:35 😂😂😂
Great information - thanks for posting.
Great update, thankyou.
Best coverage to date..full info ty
It's cool to see this happening right where we were a few months ago!
Thank you so so much!
Old timers: will the lava block the highway?
Newcomers and tourists: where can I go to Instagram myself?
Thanks!
Pele: “It’s my way or the highway.”
What is heleon plan about saddle road route.?
I need to know who's damn fault it was now!!
Bahaha 😹
We need to find Whitney and ask her!
It’s your own dam fault, she said so
But the real question here is was she “being resourceful”?… Cat Fight!….Wifey and I have been laughing for the last 10 minutes.
As long as it doesn't go all Dantes Peak, we're good. I'm hoping she doesn't head down to Hilo. Last thing we need is the lava flowing down Daniel K Inouye highway...
Right, it might use the road as a funnel and get to Hilo much quicker than it would have without the road
@@DJKSWISHA that's what I was thinking. It has those high banks on both sides. That'd suck. We'll see how she goes tho. 🤙🏾
How much C02 is being emitted lol
The happiest state is Hawaii, haven’t u heard?
Do we have any estimates of the lava effusion rate?
Yes.
Funniest cat fight mike drop ever at the 4:30 mark…lol
My heart ❤️ and prayers are with you! I am on the Coastline of Massachusetts! I see the Atlantic Ocean everyday! 90 feet away approximately! I was planning a vacation to Hawaii! But it will be sometime before I come! My children bought me a Puppy Dog! So, I have not been able to travel as I had planned! He is a very wonderful little Dog 🐩! He is a Cavachon! Take care!
!
Can I come visit HaHa ? Hows ur gas Bill mine HIGH !!! ALOHA
#1 take away from this video: I get the impression that newsroom isn't especially friendly.
I can smell the spam frying over the open lava, Hawaiians have it so good!
4:32 oops
Talmadge has a pretty full plate.
If it starts getting closer to the road, can they dig under it to give the lava a place to travel instead of blocking the road?
Yes. My uncle was a Lava Tunneler on the big island years ago. That’s exactly how it’s done.
No that would be impossible. You can’t mitigate lava.
It would be melting or at least compromising any structure that tunnels under a road. Could also solidify inside the tunnel and spill onto roadway.
@@DN-kf4gg if can, can. If no can, no can🤔
Trying to get in lava's way doesn't really work. It doesn't care about trenches or tunnels; it just fills them and rolls over the top. It's a lot like a slow-motion runaway train; the bit at the front has no control over the force of the flow at the back, driving the whole thing forward. When you put barriers in-front of it, it just climbs over and buries them. You can build on top of lava, once it's cooled enough to be safe, but it's very difficult to redirect its path effectively. It goes where it wants to, and few forces in the world can bring it to a stop meaningfully.
As in 2018, the gas flowing south will be swept west over the ocean then north into Kona, creating a cloud of dangerously unhealthy VOG. Fortunately, the Ironman isn't being held as was the case at the peak in 2018. Lots of property for sale, no air to breathe. Oh well!
Be safe moku o keawe! 🙏 tell em to send us money so we can make one big slingshot we shoot you some spam over from maui to kohala just in case no can get to costco! Praying for you folks out there!
Wow someone forgot to mute haha
Good Ole PTA. 2 Pairs of boots and damn near broke my ankle.
You’re welcome 😂
@@ThuyPham-lr5dc Aloha and Mahalo 🤙
Why did Hawai’i County build a highway in the path of a past and potential future lava flows knowing that Mauna Loa will erupt?
That would be the whole island
Almost every point of the Island is on the path of a possible lava flow
Roads are built where people need to go
Job security !😁🤙
It is a short cut between two volcanoes. Other option is to drive around the two volcanoes. Those roads also got covered the last two eruptions.
The movie 'volcano' comes to mind for ways to contain the flow🌋. C'mon man.. do a thing!😄
That's how they do it in the movies. Nature has other ways. Pele don't play dat.
That was a movie, that kind of thing doesn't work in the real world. Sand castles against the rising tide...
LOL....lava melts rock.
@Kills Alone "Pele is make believe like sky daddy."
There was no call for that. Why choose to be so disrespectful? Stow it, dude.
Also, some volcanologists have disputed the effectiveness of the '35 bombing operation in stopping the eruption, despite it being declared a success by Thomas Jaggar at the time; there's probably a good reason that no-one has tried the same since.
@KillsAlone respect Pele....
🙏
Score Volcano 100 Humans 0
😢kaka takot naman
Damn Wendy, It's not his fault.
Anybody think sea level issue is causing these volcanoes to go eruption?
Not how it works. Eruptions are caused by pressure in the mantle, magma forcing its way up through weakpoints in the crust to form hotspots, like the one that the Hawaiian island chain is formed over. Seal levels have nothing to do with causing eruptions at all - though seawater interacting with superheated rock does cause phreatic eruptions, a kind of explosion caused by the water instantly flashing to steam. Good video describing the current Mauna Loa eruption can be found here, posted 3 days ago, shortly after the initial eruption; he's posted a couple more on Mauna Loa since then:

Nope. It's nature been going on since beginning of time
OMG, are you serious!?!

Truth breaks free!! Lol
Someone getting fired 😂😂
Does the moon effect volcanos? Like it does tides? I'm dumb on volcanos although the science project was fun.
I think 💭 it does
ITS really the sun and the E-magnetic field
Interesting question. It wouldn't seem so.
@@reginaldpatterson7621 it’s all universal 💫✨
The moon affects almost everything.
It's your own damn fault 🤣😉🤣😉🤣
Well that was professional. 😅
That was hilarious. Open mike much?😂😂😂
@xXAg3nT80-siXx it was what the lady said on an open mike🤣😂 hahaha
Are they predicting any Earthquakes or tsunamis from this event ?
There were a few earthquakes already during this eruption but nothing serious. We're used to them by now but no threat of Tusnamis either. It's all good
no
Daniel k inouye highway? WTH!
It appears USGS has been asleep at the wheel. Locals are better.
Always🥰🌈🤙
When aren't USG asleep .🥾
You do realize that Half of that briefing was USGS, right? He hardly seemed asleep. And he has been studying Hawaiian volcanoes for most of his career…
I stand by what I said.
@@KarenUntz Standing by an uninformed statement of opinion doesn’t make it any more accurate…
So they named that “Pele’s Hair” stuff after the Brazilian soccer star. His talent was volcanic.
Nah..Pele was here first!

LETS GO BRASIL!!!
HEXA!!
We're praying for you Hawaii. 🙏
No we aren’t.🤷♂️🤦♂️🤡
The funny part is this volcano put out more greenhouse gases in one week then we would in 100 years
Вроде, как конец света ждём...
So my kids want to know when they can make s’mores…safely of course.. my other one was, I can’t find a virgin in my sub to toss in..and we drank the good booze.. ok, back to reality
Oh WOW a viewing area as compared to people being banned? Life is good in Nanny state USA!
Why don't they get dozers in an d dig a trench to divert it from the highway
Hard to dig up Lava fields.
Unfortunately it doesn’t work. In the 2018 flow it pushed uphill into green lake.
Liquids don't care about trenches. Dig a trench in-front of a tsunami, and the sea will inevitably fill it, then keep rolling right over the top. Dig a trench in front of lava, and the lava will fill it then keep on rolling, just like the sea. You'd spend time and money paying people to take a few days digging a trench, only for the lava to be stalled by a few hours at most. Hawai'i is not Iceland; the island's topography and situation on the ground is not the same as it was in Geldingadalir.
Expensive temporary fix. In Iceland they tried to make a dam to prevent lava from flowing thru a pass and down into a neighboring valley. It delayed, but did not prevent flowing lava from entering the valley they were trying to protect. Money spent to little effect.
How about some C-5 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
That will make a trench!
We need bands kegs bbqs fire dancing tacos portable poopers slow the driving to 25 at night and let us rage for Pele!
Try and drive past in the day time, sadly there’s tons of trash being left behind by people all along the sides of the roadways. Shame
Modern day Pompie
Not even close. Fissure eruptions cannot produce pyroclastic flows, which is what destroyed Pompeii. Suggest you brush up on your volcanology.
@@hydroknight01 calm down wow!😬
@@charliec2622 I'm very calm, thanks. Just stating the facts. Hawai'i is a collection of shield volcanos, formed from a hotspot in the Earth's mantle, and they usually only produce lava flows like this one Mauna Loa is producing now, and the ones produced during Kilauea's last eruption; another example would be the eruption of Geldingadalir in Iceland earlier this year. But shield volcanos cannot produce pyroclastic flows; these are formed from clouds of the hot gas and ash usually produced during an explosive eruption, and driven by gravity, rushing down the steep sides of a stratovolcano like Mt. St. Helens, or Mt. Vesuvius (hence, the destruction and burial of Pompeii). Volcanology is a really fascinating subject, and anyone can learn even the basics very easily, today; I would encourage you, and anyone else, to have a look. :)
More intense end-time events. If you want to get saved and have eternal life; confess with your mouth that Jesus is your Lord and Savior. Ask Him to forgive of your sins. In Jesus name. You’re saved.
Cool story, bro. What about all the other times this same volcano has erupted, but Jesus no showed? Y'all end times zealots have zero credibility.
So @proclaimjesustoday WHEN is your """End of Time""" supposed to be Happening anyways???
Mauna Loa has erupted 33 times since 1843- averaging once every five years. Over a longer period of time, the past 3,000 years, its estimated to have erupted once every six years. We are currently in the volcano's longest quiet period since written records have been kept, as it has not erupted since 1984.
It's a very peaceful, non-violent eruption, thanks. Take your godbothering somewhere else.
Amen to your wonderful message of The Lord Jesus Christ ❤
