Two volcanoes on Hawaii's Big Island erupt simultaneously for the first time in decades

  • Hawaii is experiencing the rare sight of two neighboring volcanoes erupting simultaneously. New lava flows gushed down Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano, and Kilauea on the archipelago's Big Island Tuesday. Scientists say a threat to humans is unlikely thus far, but as hot lava flows cause disruption and move closer to neighborhoods, danger is not out of the question. Jonathan Vigliotti reports.

Living here, unless you drive to it, there is little indication that anything is going on. That said, at night, the glow is beautiful to see and thousands of residents have driven up to mauka to get better view. So far this has been best case scenario and hopefully the flow will stop before too much damage is done. For now, I'll drink my 100% Kona coffee (best coffee in the world) and enjoy/respect this amazing event.

So there’s potential for three active eruptions going on there. Mouna Loa, Kilauea, and Kamaʻehuakanaloa Sea Mount, formerly known as Lo’ihi. Kamaʻehuakanaloa is southeast of the island about 30 miles and is underwater, so you can’t see it, but it has the potential to erupt.

For those saying it’s not “simultaneous”
In geology a couple of years is like a blink of an eye, so yes the smaller eruption we had a couple years ago is considered simultaneous with the one we are having. To look at geology correctly you have to bring your perspective way out and look at the big picture involving the whole earth.

Each island was made when that part of the plate moved over the hot spot in the plate/ocean floor and released magma growing an island. Why do people build homes in the mainland where there are hurricanes and massive floods or right through the tornado lane? Yes, if you live in Hawaii, we have earthquakes, tsunamis, and eruptions, but nowhere on earth is safe for a natural disaster. We have two roads connecting us to the other side of the island. If the lava reaches the road, we still have hamakua Road to connect us. No one lives where the eruption is rn the only thing out there is scientists and the military base where they practice bombing our island and I hope Tutu Pele takes out the military base because them bombing our island threatens are watershed. Why would anyone build a military base to practice bombing dystorying our ecosystem and our source of clean water? Humans are more scary than a volcano eruption.

Can the U.N. tax Hawaii for allowing their volcanoes to pollute, or is better to just tax the Sun for having sunspots? Or even better, we can tax the people under the guise of changing rhe weather and make energy costs rise to the point were people become dependent on the government, kind of how litter kids are dependent on their parents, and the parent gets to tell the kids how to live and what they are allowed to do.
