- HAWAIʻI ISLAND - As of Thursday evening, the lava flow front is about 3.2 miles, or 5.2 kilometers, from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, aka Saddle Road. A new Mauna Loa eruption viewing traffic pattern has also been established off the Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

as an outsider. this channel has been the best source of news i've seen. thanks for the clear reporting and contextualization.
Check out Two Pineapples. They are live and are totally filming everything.

Oahu here…. Your report is more informative than the local news channels! No attempt to sensationalize this story. We approve- Keep it up please.
This is how news should be reported. These days it's rare.
Your updates are clear, concise, very informative and without overblown fanfare. I've looked at other channels but keep coming back to this one. I haven't been to Hawaii since 1976. Mahalo from DC for the postings!
This has been my favorite channel for news about the volcanoes since the last big eruption 4-5 years ago
Can you please include maps that include a larger picture of where the lava is likely to cross 200 (Saddle Rd)? All of the maps I can find are close ups, and do nothing to help visitors who are not familiar with the island. I'm trying to explain to family and friends what is happening, but they need a map to see that the northwest side of the island isn't about to be destroyed by lava.
You are the best for updates!
This is channel is fantastic! Just facts and no hype.🤙
Pele is happy and wants to keep expanding her islands. Truly incredible she’s having both volcanoes on each side erupt together. 🤙🏼💗🌋
It's the State's land too. ALOHA
The eruption is a product of tectonic plate movement beneath causing massive heat due to friction. There fore Pele has no part in the cone opening.
God is making more land for our over populated earth. We have a Homeless situation that's getting worse not better. Prayers. Trust the Lord our God.
@@cathiefreer1011 Better pray he comes up with a different strategy; piling land on top of existing land isn't going to fix the problem.
@@MikeGreenwood51 That.... literally isn't how the Hawaii volcanoes work at all. Most volcanoes are like that, yes, but not hot spot volcanoes.
I'm fiending for some Big Island Video News volcano videos! I usually get one at least every 24 hours. It's been three days I'm going through withdrawals!
Volcanoes are rocking, and hot!
Keep safe. 🙏🙏🙏
Looking at the flow map and then looking at Google maps, it seems this newest flow path is following a somewhat recent (1935) flow path (new, black lava on Google maps) on its way to the Saddle road - which looks like it was built across the previous flow.
It’s been bothering me for years because it’s so good; that is is a synthesized voice. What program/software is used? Thanks!
There's always the Kailua Kona road, which is a long way around the island but viable!
It's like a movie, I love it
Maybe, if the lava covers the saddle road, when you rebuild it, move it 100 feet upslope on the Mauna Kea side so it's not an issue in the future.
We are going to in Jan to see this live 😮
It won't likely be still erupting by then. Possible, but don't get your hopes up too far.
I'd be surprised if ML is still erupting by then. ML's eruptions historically don't last very long. But it's possible.....
'
wow beautifully natural eruption volcano lava in hawaii...
keep gooing activity volcano lava allday - allnight in one year until dec 2023
looks like the cone is starting to form
Yes, small cinder cone, just like the fissures formed in 2018 from Kilauea's lower east rift zone eruption.
🔥🔥🔥🤙🤙🤙🙏🙏🙏
About the only kind of good thing about this natural disaster is that there is time to prepare stuff now before stuff like transmission lines and roads are cut.
In my mind this can hardly be construed as a natural disaster because so far the impact on human habitation and infrastructure is minimal. The lava flow may not progress far beyond the saddle area thus its impact could continue to be minimal. The eruption of Kilauea in 2018 or La Palma last year were more of a natural disaster given the residential area that was destroyed.
@@michaeldeierhoi4096 ok fine so its currently a natural wonder then… either way its slow speed allows prep work to be done.
Well, it's been moving since the last big flow, & now the Big Volcano is On the Move!
It's been just over three miles from the highway for what, three four days now? Maybe it gets to the road in a week, maybe a month.
If it were me, back when I was an engineer, I might have pushed for the road to be further up the slope of Maunakea, avoid this sort of thing for couple thousand years or so. But no, built right on a recent lava flow.
Where’s the update
He’s stealing all the diamonds
Please don't ever sell out. :)
Are the U.S. military bases scorched?
Ah no.....
@@scrabbleking1965 Wrong island (see Oahu). But there is a small military facility up off the Saddle Road in that area of the flow.
Tutu Pele has made her way to the EDGE of the military base, YES! The stupid military is actually trying to figure out how to "divert it"🤣🤣
SO MANY HAWAIIANS are CURRENTLY PRAYING for the TOXIC BASE TO BE TAKEN BACK BY PELE!
What are you talking about?! The HUGE Training base is on Big island WITH the volcano (Pele).
The lava hit the military border zone day before yesterday. There's MULTIPLE bases in the Pacific. The one on Hawaii island (Moku O Keawe) is called "Pohokuloa Training Acadely)" (aka:PTA). They've been BOMBING and POLLUTING the island with depleted uranium since the 70's. ☠️☠️☠️ Letting it rain down over everyone. So THAT'S in the air now along with the VOG.
Stupid "Team America World Police" have to bomb everything, remember??
@@HawaiiHolisticHealth The United States has military training bases all over the country for live fire exercise. Kaho’olawe was largely unpopulated, even during pre-western contact, due to extremely low freshwater supply. It was a great area for live fire exercise. People protested the impact to environmental and cultural sites. And now the U.S. military is cleaning up that island. Hooray!
Who is Pele
She's a goddessthat watches over the island... she comes from the volcano... her hair is red and fairy, so they call the iron rods that come up in the lava flow Pele hair. She supposedly prorec5ed the native residents last time lava flowed but let the mainlander's holiday homes be destroyed. She has a definite presence when you are there, she will also curse you if take anything natural from the island.
🌋You will see
Looks like Icelandic fissures.
it's gonna blow up
no. stop.
@Mongoth Bloody. Mauna Loa is not the kind of volcano that it will blow up.
Being ignorant and a troll isn't attractive.
Yo Joe give us money
Pineapples just went up 50%!
Wrong island. Dole is located on Oahu.
Sadly dole ohua is has been overcome by foreign producers, gotta go straight to da source
@@LanakilaMiller - Shhhhhh..... that's how they profit!
No pineapples growing that high on the lava fields LOL, and not many being transported through Saddle Rd. either....
Doesn't Hawaii have their own volcano relief fund? The volcanoes were there long before Hawaii was a state.
They hate the hoales until its time for money.
As a state, which includes taxation and representation in Washington, are you SERIOUSLY QUESTIONING the request for assistance at this time?? Wasn't Florida or Louisiana once NOT A STATE?? and the emergency aid was as it should have been, asked for and given to them. SMH....wow
@@laniedwards449 It's been nearly 40 years since Mauna Loa last erupted, and records of her eruptions go back hundreds of years. There is enough data there to do some financial planning about the risks and expenses involved. It wouldn't be a big deal for Hawaii to start up a fund that they put a small amount of tax revenue in each year so that the money is there when it's needed. As it is, the Hawaiian volcanoes are tourist attractions, and the state probably gets a good amount of money from people coming to see them.
Who's running the channel now? We used to be able to count on you guys to be up to date. Amd give current updates. Guess we'll have to go somewhere else for current situations. Sucks we can't count on you guys anymore.
Robot channel
Lol hi
So, one little road crossed a county as well as state officials are asking for money? How about Noooo
Just Move !!!!
It's for the SO2 gas poisoning
How about yes. Instead of wasting taxpayers money aiding other country's war, better send it to the ones who need it to save lives.
Since it's obvious you have no context, I'll correct your statement. One major highway connecting the two biggest population centers of a county bigger than the state of Connecticut is potentially going to be cut off. A large portion of the population depends on the highway for commuting from the affordable side of the county, where they live, to the unaffordable side of the county, where the jobs are. Additionally, many essential goods, including food, are transported on this highway. Losing the highway will be a devastating blow to the residents of this county/island. It's not inappropriate to ask for help from the government that we pay taxes to, especially considering tourism and transplants from the mainland US are a major driver of the overinflated home values on the western side of the island. Not to mention the US illegally annexed Hawaii. So instead of "how about noooo," I say "how about put up or shut up."
@@pyroh22 Indeed the comment is from a totally uninformed almost idiotic "logic" about the vital importance of the saddle road! Typical wrong statement that actual facts need to be understood as you mentioned!!
Keep safe everyone on Big Island!
I wouldn't depend on the biden admin to come through quickly..... more like a year from now. day late and dollar short joe.
I hope the Blues in DC didn't injure themselves by having to do a little work for their Blue state.
