    im new to kayaking and still learning before i purchase anything. So all kayaks flood with water in the bow n stern or where you keep your gear? or are some air tight to prevent leaks or flooding.. im looking to get a touring kayak.. any help would be much appreciated.

      I'm also very new to the sport. From what I've heard you can buy waterproof wearable-ish covers that attach to the top of the cockpit. I'm not sure if they can be had on anything other than whitewater and ocean kayaks though.

    Love this video. Folks need to lighten up on the Pimp. It's brilliant. You have a great sense of humor. I have done most of this to my kayak already. Short of three things. The Sail (It's pricey) and th bilge pump, and the spare paddle holder. Can you link us to where we can get that spare paddle holder and the parts for the bilge pump system, the pump, battery case etc? Thanks

    Question May 15th, 2018. Hope someone checks in. Just bought a sit on top self bailing with scupper holes. I prefer to sit in a dry kayak with our cold water lakes in Oregon. There was also a little water in the interior storage compartment, which I would like to be more waterproof. DO YOU THINK it is wise to plug the scupper holes permanently and will that keep the interior dry? I would rather attach stabilizers than tip over unintentionally when kayak camping. Thanks!

    • @eastcoastkayaking
      @eastcoastkayaking  6 лет назад +3

      HI Lindsey, no kayak is water tight! would would not recommend permanently blocking scupper holes, you can get after market plugs, which do do a great job!

    • @DominiqueB
      @DominiqueB 5 лет назад

      Water inside the holds probably comes from the lids, notoriously not as watertight as we'd like, not the scupper holes. Depending on the type of lids, there are different ways to try to solve the issue (probably all easy to find on RUclips :-), but nothing seems to be 100% foolproof - dry bags are your friends.
      I did plug in the scupper holes on my SOT with generic silicon plugs, water still seeps in, or splashes in, so I'm still wet. :-)

      I wonder if the parts necessary for the spare paddle holder you have there couldn't be had at a hardware store. It looked like a couple of straight pins with a hole that would fit a Kotter pin. For the paddle half without the detent holes already in place, drill one yourself. I expect a crafty guy could make that system for about fifteen bucks.
      Thanks for the idea! I like what you've got going on in this video. I'll probably borrow a few of these ideas once my new 14 ft boat comes in.
