Good video except for one thing... if u wrap your pump in your paddle float then u will have to RESTOW ur pump while in swimming, in shock at a bailout, while also holding on to your paddle.and the float . A good way to lose your pump, Float, paddle ..... suggest they are stowed separately

Marine VHF radio is class licensed. To be in the class you need a marine radio operators certificate of proficiency. No licence or fee is required.

nice little video. Thanks. A couple of comments..not sure about rolling the paddle float on the outside of the pump. If you need to use the pump you are going to have to first unwrap it and then you are going to have to deal with the flappy paddle float. Could waste valuable time in an emergency. Also the hand toggles are going to be very dangerous in surf and rough water as they do not extend past the bow and stern of the kayak.
I agree about the paddle float but would like to know more about your reasoning that the toggles would be dangerous in surf and rough water, the only time I have used the toggles on the water has been a toggle tow of a capsized paddler to get immediate clearance from rocks before re-entry, in which case a direct handhold to the bow (toggle longer than the boat) would be an advantage but not a necessity - similarly, having a swimmer hold onto the bow in rough water while I empty their boat would work OK with the toggle in the high position. Am I missing something (this is not a troll or catch-out but a genuine question - thanks)?
think about the boat rolling through 360 degrees along its length. if the toggle extends past the bow and stern your hand, wrist and arm is free from the rolling boat and you can hold the toggle and maintain contact with your boat. alternatively if the toggle does not extend past the boat u risk either injury as your hand, wrist will come in contact with your boat and attempt to drag you over with it causing injury or force u to let go thus lrtting your boat float free. neither are good options. in surf there can be large forces and things move quickly. anyway... try it yourself. also look at a nigel dennis boat. you will see the toggles are threaded at the extreme end of the boat for this reason. while they can be used to carry a boat on land (but better a firm grip under bow and stern) tjey are safety devices that work in conjunction with your deck lines to ensure you dont lose your boat. anyway... that is my experience. good luck and hope this is helpful. and remember with free advice you get what u pay for. work it out yourself on the water by doing your safety drills and see what works for u. hope this all makes sense. cheers

What compass do you use?
That hatch cover at 4:05 looks pretty flimsy and the way it is held down is even worse. But...you have all those signal devices to bring rescue so I guess it is OK : )
Same hatch cover survived nearly a month being battered around in the Tasman Seas.
FFS bring a separate compass for your pfd if your boat sinks
I used to think having one of those was a silly idea but having one does allow you to orient yourself to land features without having to turn the kayak to face them. I'd use a better compass than one of those shitty orienteering ones though.

@@yru435 I had to re-watch the video as it was from a year ago I saw it. All the crap he carries is worthless without kayaking skills. The amount of safety gear he carries is crazy. Sure if you on some expedition maybe. BUT this video will instill confidence in people who have zero skills. Spend your money on training rather than all this crap. I doubt you were ever as perfect as me. lol.
@@dc9mm2most of what is listed/spoken about in the vid is legally required. And the East Coast guys have done plenty of Bass Strait crossings where you really should be carrying all that anyway.
