Had to strap on a few chimney cowls that were awkward to carry by hand due to their large size, your tip about using a rucksack was genius. Thanks mate
I use old sofa cushions, rip foam out of them, I’ve bought foam last time, 120mm thick , 3ft x 3ft cost about £65 each. You can use them on slate, handmade tiles, all profile tiles & don’t slide off . Great for tile repairs👍👍
As an old school slater i can't remember ever having the luxury of picking a dry day to work, especially in Scotland 😂. Some of the shit we had to do like brushing off snow in order to work woulda had health & safety having seizures. Any kids thinking about being slaters...dont! Trust me 😬
I use to weigh 99kg and break tiles alot. I purposely lost weight down to 76kg in six months , now rarely break tiles now. ( My new line of work involved walking on roofs, that's why I had to loose weight) I know this comment is boring 😂
An excellent confidence builder! The only comment I would make is the less weight you have on your feet by crabbing, the more chance there is of sliding off the roof, if you stay more upright then you will not slide.
When you're up on a roof and are an amateur, you tend to crab-walk like that anyway out of necessity and safety fears. Good advice about getting the rafters under you though for maximum support. The timbers of the roof I've been on are 180 years old, remarkably. The battens are probably a lot younger.
On my roof jobs, ppl on the ground KNOW im work on the roof and steer clear of the drop zone of the roofing thats coming. If the morons down below are "in my jobsite zone" then they deserve to get hit for being retarded. Way to be negative though👍
Im looking to build a small single storey extension with a flat roof but can't find any good videos on constructing the roofing frame, so maybe a video on that would be great. If you need to build any roofs in the near future.
What a load of absolute bollocks Joe public will listen to anything and then say how great it is. Jesus I've seen it all now .get me out of here 50 years roofing I just can't comment on this ....may be a hovering jet pack ... Here come the Joe puplics replays ...yes fantastic! where do I get one ? Is it petrol? Wow your amazing ? Can I use my jet pack to point the ridge blar de fuckin blar

Excellent video, thank you very much. I have been using a lashed ladder (resting on ground) to eyebolt on rafter end with another ladder jammed on top and running up roof. Is this also a recommended way where area is small and within reach of ladder? I certainly felt safer that way!
Thanks for doing this. I have a roof very similar to this that I will be cleaning soon, and I'm trying to figure out how I can minimize contact or not walk on the roof at all. Apparently, the terracotta tiles the home owner has are very expensive and I am not trained to replace them. I'm going to be using sodium hypochlorite to clean the tiles and do a heavy rinse. I noticed the roof you are on has a lot of the same Gloeocapsa magma or lichen. Any thoughts on cleaning them? Some people shy away from it but I believe, if done quickly and the cleaners are washed off properly, there is no need to worry.
Polyester leggings and superman outfit - how did you know what I always wear when doing roofing work? Well done for saying that with a straight face a not a trace of sarcasm!
I can do anything in my house, but going up to the roof is NO. Flying 3000m above on my paraglider, it's not a problem. But those roofs are for the roofers to climb :)
On my roof jobs, ppl on the ground KNOW im work on the roof and steer clear of the drop zone of the roofing thats coming. If the morons down below are "in my jobsite zone" then they deserve to get hit for being retarded. Do you carry all your shingles down?! 🤣
If you lean forward onto your arms you’re increasing the chances of your feet sliding backwards. I’ve nearly fallen off roofs doing that. Professional roofers all walk upright, and ideally stay near their cat ladder unless there’s scaffolding in place.
This bloke is obviously a professional. To do any work on a roof you need proper training and tuition not just a 10 Minute video. Leave the work to those who know what they are doing. One fall and you’re toast.
My weight on the scale is 60kg ,i walk on the roof like a monkey😂😂😂...spreading legs and ass up face down , its easy sofar.i am fitting cables and doing roof drops ,attic cablings for broad band and 📺 tv connections .i was here to see this video how more properly i can do safe work...thanks video is helpful❤
My best guess is eastern Europe, somewhere. That kind of tile was quite popular in Germany, Austria and some surrounding countries/former parts of these countries. The slightly rundown state of everything would fit in with that but you can find that pretty much anywhere.
Are you a roofer? You shouldn’t walk on plain tile roofs,or slate roofs. You CAN walk on big concrete tiles. As a roofer I always use ladders, if you can’t use a roof ladder then use a normal ladder sat on foam to protect the tiles/slates. Strap\tie the upright ladder so it’s safe, then tie the ladder that’s up the roof to the upright! Or if able to use a roof ladder this will support itself safely with the hook over the ridge line
This guy dont no shit ahaha about keep u hands on roof at all time how u gonna replace tiles with tiles if cant carry them up and when he says new tiles u can walk on cause its well made had he ever walked on new rosemary they pop easier than old one 😅😅

Man, I wish I would have seen this video before I went prancing about on my roof in my leotard. Could have saved myself a lot of trouble.
Yeah, the worst bit is when the police helicopter is up and they're chasing you around trying to get you into a net.
Maybe climbing into a milfs room
You say that, but it ruined my plans for the rest of the weekend 😔
I also learnt this lesson the hard way...

Before I walked on roof like you said, I thought I did very stupid way. Now I know that is correct way.
Great video. Thanks. I've got moss to clean out of a gully which is making my roof leak. This gave me top tips.

0:25 Pro tip: Throw random tiles off the roof with no warning whatsoever. If you don't have an old tile, you can throw a hammer.
It took 3 attempts before he finally hit next doors car.

You're a great educator, shame you haven't kept up with the videos
@learnbuilding what boots are those?
The safest way is to hire a crawler or on this type of roof fix hooks to the top wall and put old cushion down ladder on top and tie ladder to hooks
We never used to to use a crawler ladder on tile, just slipped a few tile up to create a ladder but we would never walk on slate.
what kind of boots are you wearing in this video?
OMG LOOK AT THE FLASHING BEHIND HIM SHOCKING
My house roof trusses are only 3inch. Is that normal? I thought standard size was 4 inch
Any tips for going down a 300 year old slate roof :)
Please do some more house videos

Use foam bumper pads and stop cracking tiles. Geez.
