I've been a roofer for 38 years and I'm impressed you used some tricks that only experience teaches you. Somebody knows what there doing😀 absolutely brilliant I would work with you anyday👍
really. i bet your roofs leak
I need to say this.: I did my own DIY slate roof a few months back. With the £1000's being saved by doing it yourself, don't scrimp on copper nails and double nail and hook EVERY slate. It will be totally bomb proof then and you will sleep soundly through the strongest winds.
Good work Tim, looks great. Having done it yourself you'll look at every other new roof now to see how they're done, and it might surprise you (or not!) to find out you've done yours better than most. Keep slogging on!
Unbelievable for your first attempt, a true inspiration to many out there that think a lot of the tasks that you tackle are way out of their comfort zone.
Well done 👏👏👏
I totally agree with most of the comments here. Your work is probably a lot better than most roofers. The attention to detail and also the prep work is outstanding. I still say you are insane. But I really admire you for doing it yourself.
Good job Tim. Been looking forward to this. Did this some years ago as a DIY project and as long as you learn from others and take you time I found it amazing what you can achieve. Well done!
Great job. I applaud you for tackling this.
Your determination to do your projects to the best of your ability with no short cuts, has been an inspiration to me, and my own skills have really improved by watching your methods. Thank you so much!
Awesome job! Im a joiner by trade but slated my own workshop roof, definitely a rewarding job (even if it was a little tiresome on the knees!) An inspiration to many watching you I've no doubt! 🙌🏻😎
Great job and for all you diy people when you hammer the slate hook into the wood hold the hook end down tight has you hammer it home. It keeps the tension to bring the slate down flat to the roof line😊
This is the most well prepared cared for roof I’ve ever seen.
Watching you take these tough jobs on and knocking them out looking good and properly done inspires and more importantly gives others confidence to DIY. I am going to slate my wood store now in the knowledge it's a job that is DIY doable.
Thanks keep up the good work.
People like you must be recognised for your selfless attitude and inspiration to share your knowledge. Thank you for sharing and what an amazing and beautiful job!
I didn't know this much work goes into roofing. This guy has done the best job I've ever seen. Simply put, a masterpiece
You and your family are extraordinary. Certainly help build my confidence when doing DIY home improvements. I much appreciate the tips. Nicely presented good camera work and excellent sound quality too!
Great job you have done there, you should be very proud. Well done and well wear. Greetings from Ireland!
Well done. I'm well impressed that you took the challenge to do this your self.
Tremendous achievement Tim! Have to say I’m not fond of heights and seeing you with your back to the end of the roof created a moment or two just watching your work 🥴. Epic 👏
Got to give it too you im a roofer myself and have been taught traditionally and every roofer still gets confused with velux windows all depends where they land on the roof. Great job mate. If you do another one I would suggest perpendicular lines down the roof just makes it easier. 10 inch and a 8th under 5 for 50 x 25 Spanish. Cracking job
Great job which will be done better than many professional roofs. When it’s yours u will take u time and do it right. Hard work in the cold and wet
What a job! Watching you work on the wet roof sent me to see how a slate roof could be repaired. Also very interesting. Thanks for the video.
I like the look of the shadow of the hooks. Looks like a classic British slate roofs I saw when I lived there. Boy do I miss living there, a great place to live!!
Looking fantastic, so well done as it’s a hell of a roof area to cover, look forward to seeing it completed. 👌
I must say you are a BRAVE man doing this. The thought of myself makes me limp at the knees 😂. Keep up the good work love watching the Chanel. Dan from Yeovil
O gosh! I take my hat off to you for taking on such a task. It looks fantastic
I have total admiration for you, great job.
Have been waiting and checking on a daily basis, couldn’t wait to see the next instalment, amazing job, great attention to detail as always.
Wow, so impressed, not something that I would have the confidence (or skills) to tackle but I can see that you have done a ton of research and that is clearly paying off. Keep the great content coming.
You my friend are a awesome worker clearly shows you love your job
You cannot beat the look of a slate roof
Great work as always Tim!
Amazing! I’m in awe ⭐️😀
Excellent job Tim...well done
Looks amazing !
Tim, your work ethic is insane. Absolute machine pal 👏🏻
Hats off to you mate! Job and a half. 👏
Brilliant vids. Really helped me contemplate doing ours on my own. Just need to buy the scaffolding!
Tim, that is a fantastic job, looking at an extension on the back of our house, and you've given me a right confidence boost to give it a go myself, not sure the wife feels the same.
I admire your tenacity {think its right word]
Huge undertaking, I take my hat off to you sir
Truly mazing and very good mentor iv been watching your videos and the way you show your work how too do it..I did my frist roofing job three house in one ad it helped 😀
I said before you started that this was too much to take for one person, I take that back now you have done a fantastic job ,you should be proud of yourself keeping it D.I.Y
You should be proud of yourself you have done well even roofers had to learn
Watched this as we need our slate roof replaced after 25 years. I'm praying we can find a contractor that follows the rules like you - congratulations on an excellent job!
This is very satisfying to watch, well done. Currently considering doing my own roof because some roofers want a fortune, others are a little more upfront and say they're too busy.
Hooks look good mate, well done.
Get a couple of old pillows under the ladder you have on the roof, if you end up breaking a slate or 2 with them double nailed & clipped it will be a nightmare to replace them.
Yes plus stops any scratches onto the slates, I use gloves on the top of mine as if I bring a pillow up I’d be tempted to go for a nap 😴
Smashing it Tim, keep going mate it looks great
Thank you for the video, I tried slating the first time round, used copper nails with copper pins and discovered not all slates need to be nailed down except for the 2nd or third row and nowadays they have a nail with the copper washer on to secure the slates. But good job, keep it up, although slates can be slippery when wet.
Looks beautiful.
Looking good😊
Massive well done Tim, beautiful job. Such a inspiration to us all.👍
An inspiration to us all ....a jolly good job done ...hope you poured yourself a nice glass of red after the end of each day !
I think you are doing a damn good job.....Well done.
Well done, Tim. Impressive work, especially during the bad weather conditions and whilst taking time to set up recording equipment, too 👍
What bad weather conditions that’s what it’s like over there all the time
top job, looks great
Fantastic job
Good job! 👍
Well done 👍🏻
You've slated That better than some roofers who've been doing it all their life. Fair play to you & nice job
Top job Tim 👍🏼
I’m planning on doing mine next year. I will save the vids for pointers 👍👍
I never knew you could cut slate! Excellent job!!!
You shouldn’t. With the proper roofing hammer/axe/and blade you end up with a chipped edge ( any shape) on all sides😊
Great job, it looks awesome! You must be really pleased with yourself?
The hooks look class with the natural slate, your doing a top job
Nice job I drove by the other day and it looks fantastic. 👍
Thanks 👍
The saying that will do doesn’t wash with you ! Top job mate
A nice tidy job.
Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪 fantastic video 📹
Your great great great grand kids will one day watch this video then walk by that house and see your work's still intact!
nice job mate. very neat
great video! slate roofs are so great looking. some day, some day...
Unreal, it’s a credit to you.
Looks good from here.
Very professional looking job. Fantastic work Tim! Hope the slate roof is not too slippy in the wet? Maybe climbing shoes would be a good safety option? Take care.
Amazing job mate. You must be so chuffed
That's a roof that will last a hundred years (at least, probably more). My modest Victorian house roof lasted 160yrs with the original Welsh slate, I've just redone it myself, a couple of years ago but with Eternits because of cost. Your Spanish slate will be easily good enough. I do this for a living. A: The guys doing the battening have done it just right. B: Your slating is great, quality job. C: On an old roof, trying to get all the runs lined up is tricky - you've done a good job. Sleep well at night, under your super watertight new roof.
Tim did the battening and felt himself. I'm sure he will be pleased that a pro thought it such a good job.
Cheers Sam, good to hear! 👍
So, at the end of the day when you climb down the scaff' for the last time and look up at the roof do you think " ...shit man I did that..."
Great job Tim!
Very nice job
Hat off to you sir, dealing with some horrible conditions to be on the roof there. The first roof I ever laid looks good for the ground, it is only when you get on it that you notice that a drunk man must have laid it :)
Going to have to update your intro flyover when the new roof is all finished!
Sweat equity! Good job.
8 thumbs down, what’s wrong with people, I bet most of the 8 wouldn’t tackle a job as big as this!!, you’re doing a great job Tim👍🏻
Mate you've got a video for everything. Fricking awesome channel.
It's a bit of a variety show here! Glad you like it. 👍
Give yourself a big pat on the back. Fantastic work!
Going to try it myself , any advice videos to watch etc
You should of gotten lighter slate tiles and write on the roof with tiles restoration couple! Fantastic job as always!
Just seeing someone load out slates correctly impressed me
please can you explain to me how you load it out this way?
Very inspiring! How come you sint need counter battens to allow ventilation between the slate and membrane?
Brave man!
I’m No roofer but it’s looking beautiful! 👏🏻🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕
Lessons learnt ? Good Vid
I Actually like the look of the hooks
Not gonna lie clicked in it cause the felt and latha colour looked cool nice job mate known my look if I stacked out out the whole roof derd be a storm blow dem off it
You have made a very nice, tidy job of that tim mate. Not bad at all for your first attempt at slating a roof. The slate hooks are a nice touch aswell though I would have been tempted to nail the slates aswell as using the hooks for a belt and braces type approach, no doubt it will be absolutely fine though. I wouldn't be surprised if your neighbours started asking if you could do theirs lol.
I agree, however I’ve never come across the hooks, or anyone that has them. Wind chatter would be my biggest concern, I doubt they’re ever going to fall off.
Excellent video, following the whole series. Can I ask what size Copper Slate / Clout Nails you used? Are there 38mm x 3.35mm? Also are there any further roofing videos on your Patreon? or additional information on the videos? Thank you
Absolutely top job, and I think the hooks look just fine. Look forward to the next one.
Great job Tim, just keep snapping those lines and get plenty of 3-4-5 squares off your battens for your Perps.
Been doing exactly that all day today on the front roof. 👍
Wish I knew what that meant😆
Wait, explained right at the end😎👍
Gr8 job.!
Great job, I am a proffessinal roofer and have been for over 40 years, hooks were mostly used in europe and particuly for man made slates that will lift, we normaly use copper rivits that stops this, a traditional slate roof only needs 2 copper nails so think you have gone a little over the top and made hard work for yourself but great job anyway
To get your bottom course of slates (eave course) did you cut a slate in half and use both halves (making 250mm in length)? - Should be up to the hole on the slate so assuming these slate are holed to a normal headlap (holed at 300mm) would make the eave slate 295mm . SO maybe lost around 40mm of headlap. Hopefully you have not slated other side of roof and you can correct this error on that side.
