The song is about love, betrayal and false memories (deja vu). At the end the usurper queen is trying to remember how things came to such a bad ending, but her true memories are mixed with false memories as she tries to justify murdering the rightful queen and killing, imprisoning or exiling the other princesses. They'd all been such close friends in the past but Yoohyeon allowed her dark ambition (the black smoke) to push her into taking the throne. Her false memories tell her that the queen was trying to kill her (the switching of who was in the coffin) so she had no choice but to take the throne. At the end she's alone on the throne, the kingdom has been ruined by civil war, she's slowly going mad, and her only wish is to go back to the way it used to be.
Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. If you ever watch Mera's guide "Dodging Disbandment and other extreme sports" about Dreamcatcher, you'll know why InSomnia are "holding this pain" when it comes to the first win. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. It's not exactly a Deja Vu per definition, but I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. By the way, this is a Kpop song without a rap part. My suggestion would be to check out one of their self-made MVs first, to see their crackhead energy in effect. I'd suggest Sahara.
Blue roses have come to symbolise love, mystery and longing to attain the impossible, with some cultures going so far as to say that the holder of a blue rose will have their wishes granted. The blue roses associated with the dead Queen are the Usurper Queen's wish to undo what she did and for her friends to accept her back again. But in the end she's consumed by darkness. The ripples and the delayed moves in the choreography signify the cause and effect of actions. In Dreamcatcher videos, the choreo always has something to do with the storyline.
In case you dont know, their positions are: Siyeon: main vocal Yoohyeon: lead vocal Dami: main rapper, sub vocal, lead dancer Handong: sub vocal Gahyeon: lead rapper, sub vocal SuA: main dancer, lead rapper, sub vocal JiU: lead vocal, lead dancer, visual
Fun fact: the choreo intro and outro are movements being reversed. Deja Vu is one of the masterpieces by dreamcatcher , where classical music meets rock with a fantasy based story and yet it still awaits it due recognition. Even before Tutting was famous in k-pop, Dreamcatcher was already doing it, as you see Siyeon do in the dance vid. 💗
You can't go backwards after Deja Vu. That's like starting a book at the end and working your way to the beginning. The beginning is Chase Me, their debut MV and that's where you should start. It's the first song in the Nightmare story arc and the story continues through Good Night, Fly High, You and I, What, Piri and Breaking Out. Deja Vu was released right after Breaking Out, but is not part of the Nightmare story although some of the themes are same. The guide has spoilers for all their title tracks so if you're concerned about spoilers you should avoid guides at this point.

Not sure if anyone told you, but if you look at the ending scene of Deja vu dance, you might notice that its the same as the beginning, just backwards :D
Dreamcatcher Deja VU: The music video is no joke either. Clearly presenting a tragic story, the video depicts the seven members as rulers of a kingdom, with a struggle for power breaking out between JiU and Yoohyeon. The scenes between the two facing off are particularly powerful, with JiU pointing the end of a rapier at Yoohyeon, in control of her fate. She makes the decision not to execute Yoohyeon, who in turn makes the decision to stab JiU in the back and kill her. Scenes of the six girls appearing and disappearing alongside Yoohyeon, show her eventually left alone and lonely, sat atop a throne left in ruins. It’s also interesting to note that some of the choreography shots showing all seven members are set in a brightly lit room, with all of girls dressed in white, something we don’t often see with this group. The medieval themes and darker lighting used during the depictions of JiU and Yoohyeon’s struggle add another layer to the song. “Deja Vu” has a lot of different creative elements that the group hasn’t used before, but it’s executed in an astounding way.
dreamcatcher \:D/ rather than a guide that usually contain a lot of spoilers, I recommend you check out the 'this is ___' series on the insomnicsy channel. just replace the blank with dreamcatcher and each of the member names(jiu, sua, siyeon, handong, yoohyeon, dami, gahyeon). each video is 7 mins and just contains personal quirks for each member from vlives and behind the scenes stuff. it's well edited and pretty funny. depending on your time allowance, you can do 1 or 2 videos at a time.
They're all stunning, they're _incredible_ vocalists (and ever-improving), brilliant dancers, _endlessly_ entertaining, and when you start to see who they are as people, you'll _completely_ fall for them. I don't make the rules. To reiterate what some of the others have said, what guides you should react to depends partially on whether you're worried about spoiling yourself for songs you haven't heard yet (some reactors skip or mute when they hit a song they haven't heard and wind up missing half the info in the video..! 😜). Personally, while you're still going through the music, I'd recommend Insomnicsy's "this is..." series. ruclips.net/p/PLTeXsqL7jUNE0tpv4x6mbslIXFusZYWaO 8 7-minute videos (one for each member, and one for the group as a whole), just a bunch of clips that give you an idea of what each girl is about... with a healthy dose of memery to boot. 😜 No matter how you break your viewing down (or don't), the time will _fly_ -high- by. Insomnicsy also has a _ton_ of other brilliant series that'll help you get to know them better, but that's kinda considered the essential primer. She's also got her own recent "unhelpful guide", which doesn't go into the depth of some of the other guides, but... well, there's a reason it's unhelpful, right? ruclips.net/video/rRJ8jUqLqHo/видео.html There's also Dreamwolfie's "Who are they? A guide to Dreamcatcher 2021" ruclips.net/video/6B4zu5qwRds/видео.html and KraayJay's "Ultimate 2020 Dreamcatcher Guide" ruclips.net/video/zHs8b-nk3DM/видео.html Personally, I prefer KraayJay's for its info and editing style, but they're both worth your time. But yeah, they both have bits of Deukae music throughout, so if you're worried about spoiling yourself, hold off till you've exposed yourself to more of their discography. And when you _really_ want to get in-depth, you _have_ to watch Mera's "Dodging Disbandment and Other Extreme Sports". ruclips.net/video/YIgCAp3i1os/видео.html Dreamcatcher's road has not been without its bumps and potholes, and Mera does an incredible job of showing just how our girls got to where they are (or rather, were as of early 2020). No matter how much you may already respect them, I can _guarantee_ that respect will increase a hundredfold when you've heard their story. It's also hilarious (when you're not crying) and brilliantly edited.
whhen you think you're starting to understand DC, you've made a mistake. You mentioned the sets and production quality but they have released a huge volume of work with little or no budget at all. Their special clips and covers. They are the absolute queens of zero budget production.
