Love how you touched on not just how Poe's work is important but how we can still not condone someone's actions while appreciating and acknowledging their importance.
You mean a reasoned, academically, and culturally reasonable approach - as opposed to the censorship, destruction, and book banning I never thought I’d see rampantly embraced by the left in 2021 (a page taken directly from the left-wing communist witch hunts and ‘cultural cleansings’ in Russia and China)
I once knew a now 68 year old woman who was married at 13. She hates talking about her late husband and even threw out all photographs and possessions that reminded her of him after he died. I never learned his age or how large the gap was between them. 55 years ago is upsettingly recent for such a betrothal.
talk about a jump in quality! I remember seeing your original video and feeling like every other media related to it, as in, just some young teenager trying to be funny and appearing shallow and uninterested to appeal to a crowd that's just as shallow and uninterested. but this video shows a literary passion within it, a desire to know more of what's written, a video essay like no other. my heartbeat was surely loud as the video went on, and I felt just as passionate about the topic as you sounded to be. all I can say is good work, you really outdid yourself. some notes I would like to add: the history of Malevolence (which, according to the credits, is how the history of the happenings in the house is called) is directly based on Edgar Alan Poe's life, slightly on his works, yes, but more on the happenings that made him write. Elise coughing blood while singing to the piano was exactly how the illness of Poe's wife (who was called Virginia ELIZA Clemm) started to make itself present within her, as well as her near demise. and the character in the game, Henry, seems to be named after Edgar Alan's own brother, William HENRY Leonard Poe, what seems to be but a coincidence becomes more once you realize the real life Henry Poe was also constantly on travels. the fact that, in the game, you experience each history after very specifically stressing moments happening in the real world makes it seem as though they are the creations of our own mind, creating each nightmare basing itself upon the world around it, a world of fear and death and madness too. also, I've given a name to the butler of the game, I've named him Usher. hehe
Thank you so much! Im so proud of this video so it really means alot when someone makes such a substantial comment. I didn't see that connection between Henry and poes brother but it seems so obvious now. And I think usher is a very fitting name 😉
Bro i watched your detention video a while ago and then browsed the channel, by accident i ended up here again through my recommended without realizing it was you again, Keep up the good work, definitely subscribing
YESSS THE DARK EYE!! i love this game so much... the stop-motion animation is so gorgeous, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the transformation of the house is so sick. Great video as always :D
I found your channel from your Detention video, and i've been enjoying all your horror video games analysis. Honestly, you really have something special and I hope your channel go big!
Little late but your review+analysis of this game is perhaps my first time being able to fully enjoy Edgar Allen Poe's stories. The way you describe the moments and what the main characters of each story could have felt/thought in those moments was riveting, especially with the portrayal of it from the gameplay (I genuinely got that feeling of horror from seeing Egeaus bloodied hand since it was built up so well) I think this was the perfect way to do a video on this game, so thanks for making this video and letting me/the viewers experience it :)
Wow thank you. Thats exactly what i wanted, to portray his stories in a fun and interesting way for people that might otherwise not have been interested in reading.
i never knew that this game existed but i love the idea of being able to experience poe’s work in this format even if it isn’t 100% faithful to the originals. thanks for another great upload! i love your content.
Really well done. The Dark Eye is one of my formative experiences. It's become tradition to play it through at least once a year. I loved your addition of the Poe text too!
Wow, I should check this game out! I love Poe's work, although I've only ever read Baudelaire's translations, so it'd be a really nice way to experience these stories in a new medium, and their original language.
i first found out about this game from the channel dungeon chill and loved the style of the game - great to know others find it cool as well !! p.s. 've been loving your uploads recently, keep up the good work :DD
Hey Freddy I’m really enjoying the direction your channels going and just wanna say I don’t think there’s any channel I look forward to uploading as much as I do yours these days, keep it up
This time I don't have much to say other than it's really interesting how it shows the perspective of those characters, the introspection that the characters have is interesting because of how it mirrors on how some people are, especially Twitter users lol, people on there are pretty psychotic.
Oh me too!, I was browsing a subreddit that was about creepy things in videogames and found that video from there, I usually don't use reddit but it was nice that I found a great channel through there.
When I was younger I had a reading. Lss sometime in gradeschool maybe 3rd or 4th grade and there was a computer program where you had to read or listen. To books and the only one I'd read was the tell tell heart I use to scare the living shit out of people bc of it
This channel would be so good without the random unfunny zoomer memes you edit in. It's like you're insecure about tackling a topic seriously so you randomly break it up with dumb attempts at humor? But if you cut all those out your videos would be legitimately good review and analysis. Consider it.
Womp womp.
bro wut
Is it just me who's randomly getting content about Edgar Allan Poe on recs???
Nah, me too
Yup. RUclips thinks you're a depressed emo kid. Is it correct?
I love this video, I remembered it recently and I was so annoyed that I couldn't remember the name of it. Glad I found it. 10/10

The story about 'The Oval Portrait' is really good and it is written by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a short story
Wow, I should check this game out! I love Poe's work, although I've only ever read Baudelaire's translations, so it'd be a really nice way to experience these stories in a new medium, and their original language.
