You been making me pick up my guitar more the last year than in the last 10. I once had a few nice ones that I sold to get myself out of some bad situations during my active prescription addictions. One a Gibson hummingbird pro. The other an old original Alverez acoustic. And my uncles 80s-90s red electric with the Floyd rose. And whammy. I feel you have some deeper story to share as well. Makes me tune in. Thanks for being you my friend.
One of my favs to cover as a two guitar band. The way they blend very, very simple melodic lines together to make it sound full, really is a master class in how to write two guitar songs. It also has a lot of fun movement while never having a traditional guitar solo. These guys really moved pop-rock forward. And as a bonus, most crowds dig it.
I've been on holiday, out in the bush with no Internet, so I only just realised you covered this! Thanks Michael . . . now all we need to do is get you into the 60s British folk scene.
In the early days of guitar hero me and a mate used to rock this out on the demo in store. This song is so good we drew a decent sized crowd every time we played it
I completely get this. You breaking it down made bitchin' sense of it. It was danceable. I heard the parts minus the rhythm guitar. I can mimic vocally so i can remember it. Fist time hearing this band. I like it!
Maybe you’re the one Michael.. Band is Daybreak Embrace, song is Tomorrow Awaits. I’m still learning and for the life of me I can’t figure this song out 😢 Been trying for almost two months.
I searched your channel & couldn't find a reaction to 'Kasey Chambers - Lose Yourself (Eminem Cover) LIVE @ Civic Theatre, Newcastle AU', I know you'll love it. Two words; AUSSIE & BANJO
Some of this feel comes from a early 70's band called Man(from Wales - listen to Spunk Rock live and you will see what I mean). Just with the punk attitude. It really grooves well. ( We grooved a little more laid back in the early 70's hehehe). Terry Williams was the drummer back then, who went onto to play for Dire Straits.
Killer song. Even the radio version does a great job of creating a live feel/energy and they do a nice job of building the tension. I wouldnt say its a “Great” guitar riff. Im always drawn more to the vocals as the real hook in this song. Riff is perfect for the song though. I tend to think of truly great riffs as riffs that dont even need the vocal! But thats just me. From this era something like Seven Nation Army would fall into that category for me. Still I always love when this song comes on!
Story of this song is really weird. He came up with the lyrics watching the Enemies at the gates sniper scene, and thought "Hey, thats a good metaphore for the valnrebilities of putting yourself out there for love"
If 'contrapuntal" is difficult to remember (cuz it kinda is), maybe "counter point" is easier. Then you don't have to say "contrapuntal motion". Instead, it's just "counter point".
Please do another Tyler Childers review! It’s been way too long and his entire Rolodex is ridiculous. In particular, a very young Childers in “Shake the Frost.” Appreciate your work, man!
You have to like that kind of music to agree with this statement. So many other genres of music that many would agree have great ideas without having to like those genres.
So anyway, who the hell is this band and what's the freaking song's name... Can't freaking Shazam it because of all the pause/play freaking stuff... ??? Edit: after lots of time, I finally bothered to look into this from my PC and figured out who is singing this. :D Thanks, YT.

“The biggest songs are singalongs. Everybody wants to sing and dance.” Word. Not enough bands today get this. It’s what makes for great music in any genre. Songs have to have grooves and hooks. Which is why so many bands, from the death metal mic-cupping screamers, to the non-musical nonsense of Mars Volta will be forgotten within 10 years, while others from Van Halen, to AC/DC, to Michael Jackson, to Journey, to Metallica, to Madonna, Prince, Bowie, ZZ Top, Sam Cooke, The Beach Boys, heck, even Meatloaf, etc, etc etc will still be remembered, played and loved.
Well it’s not like the 21st century has been defined by a ton of great guitar riffs. I still wouldn’t say this one is the best though, but probably worth a top 20 mention.
Franz Ferdinand is like the band that sounds like the 80's and 90's. You can't name the riffs they are stealing because they change them slightly, but you remember the riffs. It's like, maybe The Cure and a handful of other bands. But they're good enough that you can't put your finger on the riff they're stealing.
Call it anything but don't call it a riff. They are just hitting different chord tones. The term 'riffing' has got into our language because ignorant people don't know the word they really need, 'jamming.' Also 'finest?' Really? If you want the finest you need some Dead Meadow.
The riff is at 6:23. You might not like, I'm not saying I do necessarily, but it's definitely a riff. Most riffs are simple. That's basically the point. If the word isnt riff for this, what is it?

It's not that unique. I've heard many famous bands come up with similar and better riffs than this song. It's a cool song, but that's about it.

I don't play guitar at all. But your ability to pick up chords and notes by ear and play them immediately is absolutely incredible. 10/10
This isn't bashing the guy but if you picked a guitar up for the first time, providing you have a half decent ear you could play this within an hour
This is why Michael is the best - breaking down the intricacies of what seems like a lightweight poppy tune.
