- Singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos and bass player Bob Hardy give a tour of Glasgow, Scotland with place where Franz Ferdinand started.
A short documentary by Top 2000 a gogo from 2021 (Dutch Public Television).
Criminally under appreciated band today. But they were massive when I was in my mid to late teens and it was a super time for British music
Timeless song, has aged well. Still jam this one loud when it comes on, well done boys 👏
Seen Franz play a bunch of times. Clubs, festivals, arenas, these dudes bring the energy. Take Me out is the big anthem that gets everybody stompin' they feet.
Part way through binge watching your interviews and this is just the best channel.
Take Me Out really brings out the energy out of the crowd
Great song, can't believe so many years have past since it's release.
One of the best dual guitar rythms, the weaving & interplay between the two guitarists, accompanied with the bass thump & bass drum stomp is beyond cool.
I still think "ah something from recent times", then realise it was nearly 20 years ago. Argh!
Yeah! Same! Ugh!
Wait ... what?!
This really made me laugh!! So true.
still recent enough lol
Me too! Lol
One of the great songs of this century. The recorded version is awesome but live it really kicks arse
How did this iconic song not get beyond 77 in the Dutch charts ?!
These videos are always amazing, my favorite is Marillion - Kayleigh, that video almost made me cry...... Probably most people dont know what the top 2000 is.
Bloody hell 20 years ago already, where has the time gone? Remember them playing T In The Park in the daylight and the whole place was bouncing to this song.
This song has such an iconic intro/decrescendo.
Reminds me of when I got my 1st job, this wouldn’t stop playing at the mall, when I’d get my lunch then to go back into the certain little store where I worked at, they had they’re own playlists and would play this one too, I didn’t think how much it would’ve been a future memory
Just a corny moment heh
Yahoo Franz Ferdinand! Such a great band
First time I heard this song, I was driving and it came on the radio. I was really confused cos knowing a little bit about music I couldn't understand how I'd not heard it before. This was because I'd automatically assumed that it was an old song. Just too good to be a new song even back then.
That could be because you MIGHT have heard it before, done by Led Zeppelin ruclips.net/video/ftknR1gf9qw/видео.html
@@MrTomDangerous Yeah you could be right, thanks for that, I'd not knowingly heard that track, love Led Zep but this one got by me MAYBE. Ha ha.
I didn't really like them much when they first come out (mainly because I'd started getting into electronic music properly by then) but listening back now I get it, superb. Not just their signature song
This is such a kickass song. My cover band plays this and it's one of my favorites to do.
I remember I got I to this back in 04 after that psp commercial
as silly as this song may have seemed when they were making it, the tune had a huge influence on me to do music for the rest of my life
Fond memories from the Sydney Big Day Out in the early 2000s...Great stuff..
First time I heard that riff it blew me away
I love this song so much
One of the last gasps of guitar based pop
Timecode for when they start to talk about the song: 5:56
So where's the story behind the song? I kept waiting for it but it never came.
pov: youre 42s playing this for the 200th time in one night
Best times ❤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻
Know this song because of guitar hero on Playstation 2. 😁
This wasn't really about the Song, but rather about the beginnings of the Band how Alex and Bob met....I would have like to see more about the actual song and the first album.
Check out the Song Exploder podcast episode! Alex talks about the creation of the song. Really interesting!
I do hope that somebody invited them to go out.
Anyone know what gig they’re playing at 1:30? They’re talking about Glastonbury, but it doesn’t look like that venue.
The playing here at the Dutch Festival Called Lowlands in the old Alpha tent.
@@ivodepivo21 Thanks!
@@musicfromakido your welcome, at the end of the video the are playing at Pinkpop also a Dutch Festival.
Reminds me of David Byrne
I had such a crush on Alex when this came out
Did they talk about the song?
For a deeper dive on how this song was actually created, I suggest Trash Theory's New British Cannon video
Top2000 loopt aardig gelijk met Song Exploder...
It's great to hear from the band. Love the tempo change in their hit song, was very refreshing. Just shows how easy it is to start a band if you are lucky enough to find decent people with half a brain and a little patience. I hope that things will get back to normal and we can go to the big festivals again soon... Fucking Scamdemic is killing music with no remorse...
True story - when my young daughter heard the name of this band, she somehow thought it was "Fran's Fertile Man Buns".
'We were jamming Trampled Underfoot and started making up new lyrics'? ;-)
Gotta be......
About the assassination in Sarajevo I heard
The title was misleading.
👆💯👌✌💕🌹
plus a bit of josef k and some gang of four
All I want is for these guys to explicitly say that the title was a joke about Franz Ferdinand’s assassination. I think it was intentional, but they’ve never explicit said so. I just need them to say it.
They did once explicitly say it was written from the point of view of the Arch Duke’s wife, as she didn’t want to go on with out her husband.
She wanted to be the next to be shot.
“I’m just a cross-hair,
I’m just a shot away from you .
I know I won’t be leaving here
With you.
.
Take me out [too]”
@@adamg.manning6088 cool explanation, thank you!
So if you lonely
Next.
Good lord what a glow up
What?
I always thought this song was about Franz Ferdinand.
It was like they were running a scam and they couldn’t believe they were getting away with it lol!
Always preferred "Michael" that always got me going.... Great song though.
gavrilo princip says WHY!
I love the Artic Monkeys!
1:03 ladies were ‘ready’ for Franz 😏
Putins daily soundtrack
Only good polish man
A true one hit wonder.
Shut up they've had plenty of bangers, The Dark of the Matinée, Do You Want To, Ulysses just off the top of my head. A one-hit wonder is something like Babylon Zoo and Spaceman 😐
@@Camberwell86 Haven't heard of any of those other songs. This is a one hit wonder, simple as that.
@@Mr.M1STER lol so if you haven't heard of a song then it's not a hit? hahaha
@@liamconlon4375 No, but I would bet that most people haven't heard of any of the songs mentioned in the other reply but would know Take Me Out. Thus, it's a one hit wonder.
@@Mr.M1STER You're conflating artists that have one-hit with artists that have multiple hits but one that was more successful than the others. Yes, Take Me Out charted the highest and is the best known, but all the others that @Camberwell86 mentioned charted too and the band still has a consistent fan-base.
One-hit wonder is a term reserved for bands that have one charting mainstream hit and no others that even come close. Like Don't Worry Be Happy.
We can't be basing one-hit wonder status on whether or not you reckon other people have heard of a group's songs
Simplistic song.
Never understood the hype about the band.
“Simplistic” in no way equals bad. Good and bad exists across every genre and composition spectrum. I would have hated to miss out on the beauty of this era in music. Sucks to be you I guess 🤷♂️
Non diatonic chord progression? Tempo changes? All live instruments, no quantisation or programming? This is basically prog compared to stuff coming out now
Did you miss the bit in the video when they said they wanted to make songs for girls to dance to?
That was the hype.
Dancing in clubs to indie songs with off beat hi hat was fun.
Never liked that tune... Couldn’t understand the whole hype behind that band. Where are they now?
