I love the carrier units. It's all we have at the apartment complex I maintain. 14 year old units. Maybe changed out only a handful of compressors and indoor coils. Only one reversing valve so far. Out of 264 apartments. They are very serviceable. Built with the tech in mind. Ours are originally R-22s with TXVs retrofitted with M099. I love working on them.
Lol. When you first fire a system up from time delay , especially carrier , with a slow reacting TXV, you should wait about 20 minutes or so before you add Freon . Sub cool will appear low on start up, but will eventually get close to its rated target after 20 minutes or so. If not then , it could be a little low . you can easily overcharge a system by adding refrigerant right off the bat. Seen this happen many times in the field . That 10 number for sub cool goes to 15 .
Honestly this is a common occurrence in residential, no need to act a certain way towards people that made a simple mistake by touching two wires together causing the fuse to blow when they took the thermostat down. I would just be thankful the Einstien didn't do anything to potentially damage the system. At worst the system doesn't have a fuse and pops the transformer, which also isn't something to get your panties in a bunch about. They hired your services so why complain so much... Steve "KnowItAll" Lemonhead is a trip.

Our house is 25 years old. Still has the original Carrier ac unit in it. All I do to maintain it is clean the coils and change the furnace filter. Good unit is an under statement.
Had a job once where the home owner kept going through transformers, the finally called the company I worked for and one of the helpers said that was his uncles customer.. Turns out he gran a ground from the secondary. Only thing is the last time he put a fuse in line. I removed the fuse rewired the transformer and told that helper to tell his uncle not to ground the transformers..

10:22 it’s just as easy to run 5 or 8 wire outside, 1 wire goes bad and you don’t have to pull a whole new wire. Homeowner can get a heat pump later on and wire’s already there.
People do weird stuff , A restaurant owner was bleeding the air out of a Buffalo water cooled AC unit most of the day ; It was low on refrigerant ! LOL

I’m watching this as I like to relearn and past few years been babying my older Rudd system which was just replaced in March. Here in SC and throughout the southeast, they install many split systems with coil/AHU/furnace and duct in the attic (don’t know why). And been away from this business for 30 years and these vids saved me a few service calls. (Can’t and won’t mess with R22). Had the system been in garage, I would have replaced myself and paid tech to charge and inspect. My system was put in 1/2 a$$. The guy who did the new install did a great job and said the same as I did. What a $&@* mess whoever installed and designed this. (Still had a fiber duct made plenum) 20 years old. Useless large construction contractors today.

Steve, when adding 410 or 22 or other do you use a scale measuring the tank before n after or rely on PDAs like your tablet ? I ask as being old school, and haven’t worked on these in years, last guy at my house few years ago measured using his PDA and I asked him how he verified. (Shady company). He blew smoke up my butt, I knew I had a leak, older R22 Rudd system. Used a useless “home warranty program” (never again ). Well cutting to chase head to go on biz trip and that cockroach company was at my house that Monday or Tuesday trying to tell me I needed the works for 20K. Wouldn’t talk to wife, only me…. Ticked me off. My brother who owns family biz in NY, was visiting and he told them I needed A,B,C. Bugged wife till they called me and I told them “my brothers word is LAW”. Few days later my tech came by and did a charge/sealant and added R22 and worked great for 5 years till I just replaced this spring. Guess moral of my story is “be careful of the shady larger companies that are working on commission. I had to threaten that one company to stop calling me. AUGH. Thanks for being a customer service kind of guy. Small mom/pop buisinesse can’t be beat

I did commercial and residential HVAC repairs for almost 20 years!.. got sick and tired of customers that try to "repair" their systems themselves... but call a tech when their wives start complaining and try low balling when you begin to find out what they did to make the problem worse.. extremely frustrating!
As a homeowner and a DIY type, I find your comment very valuable. We need to understand these issues with you techs and to know what tasks we can competently perform and which one to leave totally alone! It is GOOD to be warned to not meddle, tinker, and make things worse! I always consult a repair manual FIRST to determine if a situation demands an expert. As far as electrical goes, the only thing I do is to check carefully for loose connections--that`s IT! I used to do all kinds of repairs and maintenance to my older cars. Now, I don`t mess with it. That is a fair question. My guess would be that a small amount of freon loss might be normal for a unit of this age. A larger leak probably would justify a leak detector kit using dye, (and also more expense). Some larger leaks might even require the additional expense of a new unit. Steve tries to "keep it simple". While some techs would try to sell the homeowner a new unit right off the bat, when all they really needed was a recharge. Older seals and connections can simply break down over time--just like in an automobile.

Steve, I think that ex-Einstein was sniffing around to check-up on the lady, and wants her back! He had to have some excuse to go over and needed to appear to be applying some "manhood". Boy, did THAT backfire! She ain`t going to let him come back at all, for a while now!
Going from experience, a lot of times the ex husband is paying for alimony, repairs, etc. I run into it often with my customers when their divorce is fresh haha
@@gidzey4783 Good point! I shudder to think about it. It is odd that women want and now have equal rights and pay in many cases--yet they want the house too. I blame the lawyers for ruining many a poor soul. Not all divorced men are monsters, even if others were. Einstein here, in this case dodged a big bullet. Woman, if I am correct, said he was only her "boyfriend".

@@BKWhite07 even if a customer screws something up you dont chastise them by calling them Einstein . If I would hear that he would be out of my house quickly. And you dont charge more because a customer wants yo know what your doing. It's his home you are a visitor. That's what's wrong with this industry. They are not trained well, they are thrown out on jobs to generate cash and some have forgotten the customer is always right even when they are wrong. Time to kill the egos your carrying around.

I wanted to slap this guy when he spoke on her personal matters. It's sumn that should never be. & To the dude who posted this clip.. you should be grateful they considered you for business.
