I was lucky enough to be a passenger in a vision jet, the pilot was quite impressed when I was asking questions, he actually asked if I have my ppl, I chuckled and said only in msfs 2020. Great vid.

This video has made me buy the jet behind my wife’s back so I’m going to be in trouble in the next few days/hours. I hope you’re proud! Thank you so much though because I love it. I never knew about the little nav map so have just spent the last few hours messing with that. I’ve not watched the full video and learnt so much. Will be coming back to watch more of this and your other content soon. Easy decision to sub. Thank you again!
I have been slowly building my knowledge of the auto pilot in this plane, and have watched several RUclips videos by others. This is by far the best video on the subject that I have seen, packed with so much useful information and demonstrated so well by showing the plane’s position on the map view. As a sort of bonus it covered the auto throttle as well plus lots of additional tips on flying the Vision Jet. I have made extensive notes. Thanks very much Jonathan.
Thanks for a very helpful and informative video! The Vision Jet is one of my favorites in the sim, and your instruction has given me confidence to use all the bells and whistles!
I have saved this licketty split for later use, and at my leisure to follow the tips one after the other. Thanks Jon because but for your intervention this would've been another aircraft bought and immediately mothballed away in my hanger. With your videos, I intend to revisit all of them (eg the Boeing 247, the Honda Jet and the Bae) and to enhance my proficiency with even the ones im flying more frequently. Once again, much thanks.
I'm so glad you made this tutorial of my favorite airplane. The way you explain everything is so pleasant to watch. Every time I learn new things from you that make the flight sim so enjoyable. Many thanks for this and I look forward to seeing what possibilities there are still with this aircraft such as ILS approach landings, etc. I am so glad I found your channel, the best there is!
Thanks for a great video. You've just made the easiest tutorial on the Vision jet's nav system I've come across. Because of this you have a new subscriber. Looking forward to more.
Wow, you are certainly pushing out the content and nearing the 10,000 subscriber mark! Well deserved too. Love the Vision jet, my current favourite. Any chance you can do an in depth tutorial on using Vnav and procedures too?
Jonathan, looks like the Vision Jet just got an update. SimBrief integration and some other features I haven't explored thoroughly yet. Might be time for another video? :)
You misinterpreted the FLC. IT will NOT automatically pick the best climb rate. You have to press FLC. then select (using the up-Dn wheel next to the FLC button) the speed you want to hold when you ascend. Or... press the auto throttle and FMS mode... it will then use the speed bugs you selected before take off... I enjoy watching your content
I may not have described it well - apologies if that was the case. It's a difficult thing to describe to people - that FLC will hold a target speed and convert excess or lack of thrust into climb or descent :)
Great Video. Regarding descending and reducing speed at the same time, most pilots hate that. When working ATC, I had to decide which I needed from the pilot first--the speed or the altitude. It was either reduce speed then descend to assigned altitude or descend first to the assigned altitude then reduce to the assigned speed. Something to consider when simming with high performance aircraft (SF-50 is a medium performance aircraft, still something to think about when transitioning from the enroute to the approach mode of flight). What do you as a pilot need first?
Yep - I often take part in ATC controlled group flights in the simulator with a group called "MyAir" and will voluntarily hold my descent at 10,000ft to decerate to 250 knots - and plan ahead, knowing I'm going to do that. They tend to instruct "own navigation" at least until the STAR - often setting a marshalling point ahead of the star with an expected altitude and speed just to get everybody sequenced easily :)
@@jonbeckett Yes. "Own navigation" works fine in low density air traffic environments. In the real world, when traffic demand is high in the terminal airspace, controllers will impose altitude and speed restrictions early and often in order to predictably organize the arrival flow and landing sequence. ;o)
You were trying to put ice protection to full screen. You needed to rotate the pane nob back to your map then hit full. Alternatively, you could just hit map button then hit full.
Excellent explained and flight. It is a good practice to hit the TOGA button on the throttle knob, prior to takeoff. This will set the command cues for best initial climb rate and wings level. (At 5 degree during takeoff run). It is a shortcut for HDG set when lined up - just hit the button. Note that selected, but not active modes are shown in white on the annunciator panel. Ref approach - the GS is white until Jonathan flies into the GS. This is a vital check as this aircraft often fail to capture ILS. I am a noob with G3000 programming. I have problem with activating SID - STAR Approach and Arrival. I always mess up, and not able to modify (delete waypoints). I watched tutorials for other aircraft, but it does not help. Any new tutorial for programming (using Simbrief) in this aircraft would be much appreciated!
Enjoyed that, thanks, just purchased this Vision Jet and struggling with ILS approach, possibly due to using the World map within MSFS to create a flight plan. I tried a few flights and even used simbrief to import a flight plan but when nearing the airport Im not acquiring the GS for some reason and watching your video would appear to agree with my settings?
Love the video very informative. One thing I’m trying to figure out is what the adf and the other one are used for I fly the Cessna 414 a lot I know the aircraft like the back my head but never able to figure out what that system is used for.
ADF = Automatic Direction Finder. ADF beacons were a fore-runner of VOR beacons - there are not many of them around any more. If you look on a map and find an "NDB" (non directional beacon), you will be able to tune the ADF radio receiver into it, and get the direction to it. They are called "non directional" because there is no way of establishing where you are in relation to a specific radial (which VORs can do through the HSI and CDI instruments in the cockpit).
VFR I need to get used to but I think my issue was becasuse I didn't plan my VFR, even tough the GS capture at 1600', it pressing APR did not engage. Still made the landing tho lol.
What key input did you use to change the green VOR CDI to a specific radial, as there's no CRS knob or way to select a specific radial, as you've mentioned in the video?
Whilst fiddling with the GTC screen and knobs, with a touch screen and knobster, it appears that the VOR course can now be set using the large touchscreen knob while in PFD mode.
Thanks for your excellent tutorial. A few questions please: On short final how do you get rid of YD? By disconnecting the FD? After AP disconnect, why is the light still on for Manual mode on AP? I botched badly a landing yesterday after a 2 hours flight, went for a go around 2 times and stick and throttle would go absolutely crazy; very frustrating. Killed the aircraft:) Your subscriber, Nick from Sydney Australia. Cheers!
@@jonbeckett I am sure I disengaged it. Anyway, today I have done exactly the same flight in the TBM 930, landing on the same runway, and it was very nice. Flaps are at 0, hdg addresed to the route and nav, fd and autopilot are engagged and activated. Of course flight plan is loaded as you explain in your video. Any suggestion about what am I doing incorrectly or missing? Thanks in advance !!!

(This may be a little hard to explain but I'll try my best) I have nav mode on and autopilot on. So when I come into a approach when I pass the waypoint before the approach transition instead of it taking me to the approach transition it takes me to the last fix on final approach. So my question is, how do I get the nav mode to take me to the transition fix? (I'm on ILS)
When you get near the ILS, go to heading mode and direct yourself towards it (if the flight plan hasn't already done that). Then switch the CDI to VOR mode - which will make the HSI show the localizer and glideslope markers. I'll do a video about it.
You must have missed something in the aircraft. Did you switch to VOR/LOC on the CDI, away from GPS when you got to approach (presuming you're talking about ILS) ?
Nope - I actually talk about it in the video. Hold CTRL +SHIFT down and use HOME and END on the keyboard to rotate the course. I found it in the keybindings.
@jonbeckett I really appreciate this video. But I seem to be missing something when I try and do this. I don't ever have GPS available on my Nav Source. I don‘t understand how to change the course. Could you tell me the keys again because I tried holding down shift and ctrl pressed end and home and it did not work. Great video thanks
Press the modifier keys down at the bottom left of the keyboard, then while holding them down, press home or end to rotate the course. I'm basing this on the default keyboard mappings in the simulator - if you've changed the mappings, that's why it's not working. You can find them in the keyboard profile configuration.
