white and white! haha, just kidding Patty, but you know me! Maybe cream and white? 😂 Love the video and it has me getting excited about Christmas already!
@Megan Bell You could definitely do tone on tone! You could do the same cream on both sides. And straight stitch. It can be very clean as I know that's your preferred design style. 💛
I have some vintage looking cotton woven. I’m planning to use the print one one side and a solid on the other. Not sure what color solid yet however. I’m going to have to get into my printed Christmas fabric stash to know for sure.
I have watched a lot of these Christmas napkin videos trying to learn how, and your video was the most informative video of them all and your napkins, due to the decorative stitches, made the napkins much more beautiful. Your video was completed and then it told us how much yardage the same allowance and so forth. Thank you again for being so thorough in your instructions.
Thank you so much Connie!! I'm so happy it was the video that helped you to understand the construction on the the napkins. They really are easy and honestly, the real work is in the pressing. I hope you will try them out!! I love making them. They never get old!
Thank you so very much for demonstrating how you make your Chris tree napkins! You have clearly demonstrated how to correctly fold them which has been a bit confusing for me until now. I actually have several sets ready to sew but have hesitated due to the folding process. Other channels were Toto fast and confusing. Great work and will be following you!
Thank you for that feedback Mary! A lot of viewers will complain that the videos are too long and I talk too slowly, but have taught enough people in real life to know that some things NEED to be demonstrated more than once, and going slow gives people a chance to grasp the concept. I love this project and I hope you will enjoy yours now that it makes a little more sense. The blog post I linked to is also a good resource. I like having written instructions to review after watching videos. I appreciate you subscribing! I'm very behind on new content right now as I've had a challenging year. And now my home is a mess due to some water damage. I did meet with the project manager who will be over seeing the repairs so it sounds like it will be ongoing in December which messes up my Christmas plans, but we'll do out best.
I totally relate to that and I think you are not alone in that sentiment. It's why I wanted to do this right now. It's a good distraction. Put on the Christmas music, bake some cookies and sew some trees. It will be the best part of this whole year.
YES!!! It's really fun Suzanne! I make my own cloth napkins and placemats, too. And I will have videos to show all of that....eventually. LOL So much sewing, so little time.
I love this!!! I’m having Christmas at my house for my husbands family. I plan to make these for my table setting. I love the decorative stitching. Thank you for sharing this.
Oh how fun Marian! I think you will love this project! I like how the cutlery can be tucked inside the tree as part of the presentation, or simply place the tree on the plate. I hope you enjoy sewing them!
I just found your video...I made these for my family as gifts this year... you're a very good teacher..I made my ironing board cover with that fabric as well...lol... happy holidays
Thank you so much Peggy! I'm so happy you enjoy my tutorials and that you are successful in making the projects! HOORAY!! I absolutely love the print and I wish I had bought more of it now.
Hi Patty, I love the little Christmas tree napkins they are so cute..What a great gift for that hard person in the family to buy for.I will be give the trees a try as soon as I get my outside work done..Thank you so much for showing us how to make them I know it was a lot of work to make the video you did awesome job thank you..
Hi Sheryl! It's the cutest project, and doesn't take much fabric. They don't take up much room so it's a nice gift item to make ahead and store away in a small box or corner of a drawer until time to wrap them up. I do hope you will give them a try! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I do hope it answers all your questions.
Thank you for the idea and tutorial! My DIL wants a Christmas Tablecloth and Napkins for her Christmas present. I was dreading getting started until I saw your video. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm so happy to hear this! This little project is really fun, and I'm sure you will want to make several sets once you start! I do have a companion blog post that goes with the video so please be sure to check that out as well. I'm sure it will be helpful for you. Once you've done a set, it will be easy!
I've watched a few of your videos. After the first one, I subscribed. Your teaching method is so easy to follow and I look forward to making all the Christmas things and more. I'm not a quilter or great at sewing. I get intimidated easily. It's mostly the lack of confidence and that darn perfectionist problem. Thank you so much and hope to see many more videos. 💜
Thank you so much Linda! I'm really happy you enjoy what I'm sharing. And oh my goodness!! Please let go of the perfectionism. We are people, not robots! We gain confidence and skill through practice, so I encourage you to just keep working on what ever it is that you enjoy. Having a really good steam iron and spray starch is the best investment you'll make in your sewing. It really does help! And just allow yourself to make some messes. It's how we learn! Believe me, I mess stuff up all the time! LOL!! It's how I figure things out and how I find the best way to help you in your craft quest. Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment. I do appreciate it.
You definitely could! I find most people just put them out as a display and don't actually use them. I've never met a non sewist who would take the time to press their table linens so I'm not sure they would use the template even if you included it. But I would leave that up to you!
Really cute project. I'd be inclined to add a visual cue of some sort to know where to fold and press without having the pattern at hand. It could be something as simple as one different stitch at the fold point along the topstitching so you'd know where to fold without the pattern but could easily be included in the design.
Sandy you can stitch a line if that works for you! I've done that in the past. I like using the pattern as a visual aid, and this is how I've shown people at in person classes. I made the video using the same method. I think the napkins look better when in use without the stitch line at the 10" mark. The great thing with sewing is there is no one way to accomplish things. We can all do what works best for each of us.
Hi Patty, these came out so cute 🥰 I actually have a set of them in a red and green pattern that I purchased at a craft fair many years ago. I’m not as creative as you to make than myself! LOL Hope you are enjoying your weekend and I’ll see you soon, Dolores 😘
Thanks for dropping by Dolores! Yes, they are a favorite at craft shows for sure. I love sewing them. It's a fun project and they come together so fast. And look great on a table.
Thanks B! The disappearing ink pen is one of my favorite sewing tools. Any pattern I cut out, I trace it and cut out on the lines rather than around a pinned pattern which is awkward for me. The iron was a QVC purchase from years ago! It was such a great deal and then when I started sewing, I discovered how wonderful a good steam iron can be.
hello I understand your schedule is tight but when do you think you will be able to film using the start stop button on your sewing machine? Please kindly reply back ok?thank you very much
Hi Frank! I'm focused on project style tutorials for the channel right now. My Kenmore is giving me a little mechanical trouble so I don't know if I'm going to be able to use it much anymore.
In general, two Fabrics measuring about a half yard each (will make 4 napkins) or 2 fat quarters (will make 2 napkins). My blog post has a little more detail, so you might want to check that out. pattymacmakes.com/christmas-tree-napkin. Hope that helps!
Thanks Sharonne! This one of my favorite Christmas projects! The ironing board cover is from Joann. I do have a video on the channel about how I gave my ironing board a makeover if you are interested!
Pattymac Makes Thank you, I am interested and will check that out. I love your channel! You have a teaching method that I can follow. Thank you for all you do❣️
@@Historical_Seamstress Thank you for such wonderful feedback! I appreciate that so much. I tend to teach on video exactly as I would in person. So the videos are a little longer but I think it answers more questions. I am planning to get into a whole lot more project and sewing tutorials coming up! I'm excited to share and hope you will enjoy everything.
Tamara, I would stick with cotton because it's more stable and it will give you a crisp line when you steam press. And flannel is a little stretchy and tricky to work with. The curve would be kind of a challenge to sew with a flannel. You could certainly try it out and see what you think, but try it both ways and decide what you prefer. I am working on Christmas stockings that use flannel stash, so that is coming up for the season. The snuggle fabrics are a challenge unless you stabilize them, which is what I did for the Christmas stockings. I hope that helps!
You definitely can! I generally don't when I sew projects for the channel so I have a crisp fabric to use on camera. I know many people are adamant about a prewash, and I supposed it's a good plan in most instances. If I use the cheap snuggle flannels from Joan, I definitely prewash because they shrink like mad.
Please don't feel bad about that! We all have to do that when we start on sewing!! And that's the great thing about a video lesson. You can watch the part you need extra help with a few times to get it. You might like the blog post that goes with this video, because there are written instructions and still pictures which can help. I do hope you will try them! What fabrics would you put together to make your Christmas Tree Napkins? 🎄🎄🎄

Donna Jordan does an excellent demonstration of this as well.
She is amazing for sure!

These are going to be my Christmas presents this year! Thank you so much.
That's wonderful Connie! They are such a fun gift, and they don't take up a ton of room as you make them and put them aside until the holiday.
What a great idea!

Does anyone else watch Patty's tutorials while in the sewing room. Raising hand here 🙋🏻♀
It's the perfect place to watch!! I hope you will give this a try JoAnne!
Absolutely!
Oh my gosh that is so cute!!!!! I need to make these!
It's such a fun little project!! I call them Christmas, but you could use them anytime, really! But they really make cute gifts.
Lovely!
Thank you!
Makes me want to dig out Christmas decorations and leave this regrettable year behind, lol.

I like Donna Jordan's, of Jordan Fabrics tutorial for Christmas napkins because they have the trunk of the tree on them, very nice, check it out.
