Thanks so much for this lovely video & pattern! I love your idea of using the metalic thread! I'm probably going to stitch all the fold lines in metalic threads
I made some scissor holders like this a few years back. You just stitch the 2 straight sides after you fold it and have a few pockets of different depths.
To aid in turning whether on the straight or a curve, start sewing at the fabric edge, stitch to the 1/4 inch line, pivot to begin sewing along the 1/4 inch edge then do the same in reverse once you get to the end where you are leaving your hole for turning. You will have an upside down L at the beginning and end which will hold the 1/4 inch down for great turning results.
There are a lot of Linda Coles and I'm not sure what you are referring to. Maybe I'm the wrong one. I live in the Fond du Lac WI area and there are 5 of us in this area alone.

To make these a bit more festive. Skip the gold thread. Before sewing the two pieces together- place jumbo color coordinated ric rack in between the layers. Make sure to pull enough through to show on the front side but still able to catch on the inside

Hi, I wonder where the gray ironing pad can be purchased from? How long does the iron hold its "charge" if you have to place the base a distance away? Do you recommend to prewash the fabric as they will be laundered often? Regarding the metallic thread, i wonder if you find it is a bit rough when wiping your mouth against it? do you think the metallic thread will hold up to frequent use? It looks lovely.
Great questions! The wool pressing mat is available here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/wool-pressing-mat-14-x-14-P67892.aspx The iron holds a charge without needing to sit on the base for about 10 minutes. Tammy, great tutorial. It would be helpful to give the dimensions of the cut fabric before you illustrated cutting the pattern. Good tips on using metallic thread. It looks nice on the fabric.
When these are given as gifts and then washed later on, how will the recipient know how to refold them to get the tree design? Could the fold lines be stitched on so they know where to refold in the future?
Please help. I love this project. I went out to buy fabric to make 12. Now I am having trouble matching up the 3 pieces of pattern to make a half circle. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
Hi Beth! Do you see the long dashed lines that go from the top of the paper to the bottom? Take your first and second sheet of paper (these should be the left side of the half-circle and the center of the half-circle with the long straight edge facing up) and line them up, one on top of the other, until the two dashed lines are stacked. We use a Lightbox or a Window so we can see through the sheets and line these up properly. You'll tape those together and do the same for the last sheet of paper, attaching that to the right side of the center paper. Does that help? - Morgan
Ah! Finally figured out my mistake. Unfortunately I cut out material for 12 napkins and couldn't get them to fold correctly. Now I find my error - had put together template pieces incorrectly (my shape was off - longer & more narrow). But it would be more helpful if you only had dotted lines where you put the pieces together!
Glad you were able to figure it out! The dotted lines are only where you join the pieces (1 set of dotted lines on the two end pieces, and 2 sets of dotted lines on the middle piece) -- these are the lines that go from the top of the sheet to the bottom. The dashed lines indicate the seam allowance. Hope that helps explain it a bit more! :) - Morgan
I have tried to fold the napkin. but it would not fold right for me. for 2 days I tried to make the fold. today December 17 with the way you showed I was able to stop and do a fold from the bottom, and it worked THANKS SO MUCH. JUDY SELLERS BLACKFOOT IDAHO
In the bobbin we used red thread so that the stitching didn't show on the red side of the napkin. :) Thank you so much for watching! Merry Christmas! - Morgan
What is this magic iron. Both Tami and Jennifer use it as if it is cold. Their fingers get so close!! But i can see it is pressing well so it must be hot
Adorable! So you don't have to worry about pressing the metallic thread during the folding process? I always worried that metallic thread might melt--perhaps they are better quality these days? Thank you for all the excellent tips!
Thank you so much for watching and so glad you like the tutorial! We've never had any problem pressing the metallic threads. The Sulky thread we use is really high quality. We use it in so many of our projects and are steaming and pressing those constantly. If you haven't used metallic threads in a long time, you'll love them now! - Morgan
Hi Rae! Thank you for watching! With the metallic thread, you may need adjust the tension and thread length to keep your machine happy. At approximately 8:26, Tammy talks about the thread director and how it's used. We love it and it's very helpful with metallic thread. Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
Lol. I know what you mean. You'd want 1.5 yards of each color to make 12 napkins. We made these using Fat Quarters, so 1 FQ of each color makes 2 napkins. There are 4 FQ in a yard. You need 6 FQ of each color (12 FQ total) to make all 12 napkins, which equals 1.5 yards of each color (3 yards total). Hope that helps! Let mw know if that makes sense. ;) - Morgan
Thanks for translating "fat quarters" into regular yards for those of us who aren't fortunate enough to work with fabric every day ha-ha! When we have to do something different than the example, it's nice to have options!
Trying to get ahead for next Christmas and came across this great idea. However I also found the template very confusing. There are too many dashed lines - you don't know which ones to line up. Also when pieces are together they don't quite make a smooth circular shape at the top like it shows in vid.
The dashed lines are used for placement of each piece when putting them together, but you'll use the lines from the templated shape to match up so you get that smooth circular shape. I printed it out here and gave it a try and it worked well. Using the light from a window or Lightbox can help easily line those pieces up. - Morgan
Not sure if it’s me, but Tammy showed the template as having a cut line around the outside and a sewing line inside but then proceeded to cut on the sewing line with the rotary cutter ?

Hello Sharon! I would be more than happy to help. You want to make sure that you are using a 1/8" straight stitch and a 1/4" seam allowance. If you look at the video at 11:22 you can see where she starts to fold the napkin. - Yajaira

Thank you for the link! The search engine is very poor on the website unless you know the exact name of the project displayed on the website (and that sometimes is different from the tutorial) u can’t find it
Looking at your vid again to try to figure things out. Your template has different lines than the one you provided. The fold lines are very clear, whereas in the template you have several that say"first fold line" and no others.
The first fold line is the most important one, which is why it was marked that way. After that, you can use the lines marked "fold verification line" to ensure that your other folds line up. The template in the video is a little bit different, but the one you downloaded is still accurate. Line up the dotted lines to make the long single sheet that you see in our video. If you'll notice, the template in the video doesn't tell you what the fold lines are. Fold your fabric according to the "First Fold Line" and then match the other folds up with the "Fold Verification Line" on the rest of the template. Hope that helps. - Morgan

Thank you soooo much Morgan. The light box was so helpful. Off I go to sew!

what type of thread did you use in the bobbin? Great tutorial, thank you and Merry Christmas!!
Red, any type.
We're glad you like it! It's the Panasonic 360 degrees Freestyle Cordless iron. You can shop them here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/c5288 -Michelle
- Morgan
Hello, can you please tell me the brand of your pressing mat? Thankyou
Hi Maria - You can find our Wool Pressing Mats here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p67892/wool-pressing-mat-14-x-14?searchQuery=wool+pressing ❤️ -Michelle
Do you only change tension & thread length if using metallic thread?
Hi Rae! Thank you for watching! With the metallic thread, you may need adjust the tension and thread length to keep your machine happy. At approximately 8:26, Tammy talks about the thread director and how it's used. We love it and it's very helpful with metallic thread. Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah
I need to make 12..my math skills are limited, lol. Would 1 yard of each color make the 12 napkins? Thanks
When we have to do something different than the example, it's nice to have options!
thanks for the assist!!!
I’m thinking I’d stitch first, then cut.
Let us know how that goes! We'd love to hear! - Morgan
- Morgan
I saw just the one line being used and then the rest of the fabic folded on it, I agree ....too many lines
Parabéns! seu trabalho é lindo💖
Obrigado! Agradecemos o feedback! -Kyla
Not sure if it’s me, but Tammy showed the template as having a cut line around the outside and a sewing line inside but then proceeded to cut on the sewing line with the rotary cutter ?
Apologies- I was viewing on my phone and realise the sewing line is a dotted line- very feint on my tiny screen. I’m definitely making these 👍
That's okay, Margaret! That can be tough to see on a phone. So glad you like the project, let us know how it turns out! - Morgan

What's the orientation of the pattern with fabric that has a definite top and bottom?
Hi Kathy! As we have not made these with material that has a definite top and bottom, you will need to play around with the orientation of the template to get the fabric where you'd like it to be! Let us know if you have any other questions! Stay safe! ~Leah

Jordan Fabrics did this very same pattern.
Anne LeFevre yes, but Donna Jordan adds a trunk to hers, at least the tutorial that I saw her do one yesterday.
It's such a fun pattern! - Morgan

Thank you
I need your help. I printed the pattern cut it out, sewed as instructed and something is wrong. I used ⅛" seam. Here are my finished measurements: 11 ½" by 5 ½" .When I go to fold my napkin as instructed I cannot get the fold you show. Can you tell me your finished measurements? I want to give these to my mother-in-law for Christmas. Thank you
Hello Sharon! I would be more than happy to help. You want to make sure that you are using a 1/8" straight stitch and a 1/4" seam allowance. If you look at the video at 11:22 you can see where she starts to fold the napkin. - Yajaira
@@ShabbyFabrics can you tell me if the finished measurements are 11 ½ x 5 ½? Mine looks so much smaller.
Hi. What thread did you use in the bobbin?
We use red thread in the bobbin so the stitches don't show. :) - Morgan
Can't find the Pattern Download, can you help me
Sorry I found it.
That's okay! Glad you found it! :) - Morgan
Could you just put the exact location of the download as the link instead of the entire list? it is very difficult to find the download sinc ethe search box does not work well.
It's just a semi-circle divided in four quarters.
We like to link everyone to all of the downloads so they don't miss all of the fun free projects we have. You can use the command+f or other search function on the page to find things quickly. - Morgan
- Morgan

Thank you for catching that! You can make 2 napkins out of 1 Fat Quarter. If you want two different colors, you'll use 2 FQ's. - Morgan
