I have a ‘17 XD Cummins and it’s actually a wonderful truck. I’ve had it for 2 years and have put just under 50,000 miles on it in that time. I plow snow with it, I pull a skid steer, boat, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles… I load the bed to max capacity and more quite often and I’ve never had anything more than a sensor failure.
It handles like an older truck because it is slightly heavier than any other half ton. It has a nice solid feeling on the road. I get great fuel economy out of mine. Nothing less than 18mpg. But usually 20+mpg on longer trips. My best was 23.6mpg on a trip back home to Wisconsin from Tennessee. I’ve done nothing to the truck other than put fuel in it, service it and drive it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a diesel truck that doesn’t need to haul 20,000lbs every day.

Nissan should've stuck it out and made the improvements needed to compete. Should've actually released the Warrior trim. Should've made a dually that could hang with the big three for a tad cheaper. The Titan was a great truck especially at the discounted prices. Sad to see them give up on it.

I have a 2017 Texas Titan XD 34K on it. So far no issues. I change oil and all the filters at 5K miles even though Nissan says to change them later. I use amsoil and hotshot products along with OEM fuel filters. I hear a bunch of horror stories on you tube relating to the motor itself and I have to admit it makes me a bit nervous. But a lot of those stories seem to come from people who have altered the motor in one way or another be it full deletes, partial deletes or different tunings. Plan on leaving the motor itself bone stock and hopefully avoid some of these issues. Aside from all that, I love the truck. It came with a lot more features for less money than some of its competitors and always gets a positive comment from folks on the street.

I have a 17XD, cooler and EGR went bad at 35K. Did a full diet and it just runs so much better. Now have 51,000K without any problems. I highly recommend doing oil analysis at every oil change and keep a watch for metal ware. I have 4 done from the last 4 oil changes at every 10K miles.

They severely dropped the ball with marketing. I was shopping trucks for a future camper purchase and happened to be getting a key programmed for my daughter’s Juke at the dealership. Started looking at brochures on the Titan and had never even heard of an XD. All that led to an ‘19 XD SV gasser purchase and I couldn’t be happier. Only real issue I have is the gas tank size.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a Titan commercial EVER! But if I say “that Space Shuttle commercial” you know exactly what truck I’m talking about.

Cft has a great video explaining chaffed injector harnesses on thesee trucks. It causes shorts, which cause misfires, cylinder flooding and hydrolocking of the motor. Every broken crankshaft that they've had has had bad injector harnesses also. Tight zip ties and rubbing. If you know what to look for it's an easy preventive maintenance

Have a 17 Xd SV Cummins. Love this truck it just passed 60k mileage. Regular 5k valvoline extreme blue or shell rotella oil changes at 5k as well as filter changes and def filter changes are the secret to any diesel longevity. No mods outside of a bilstein 5100 suspension upgrade as well as a rough country leveling kit and a helwig sway bar upgrade. Bought it used w 19k mileage. Also use fuel lubricants like Lucas pretty regularly when I fill up. My theory is don’t tune the engine or modify it they don’t pay engineers what they do to have guys mod them and void the warranty. It’s a great truck Nissan didn’t market it at all which is a damn shame

Had a 2017 Titan XD SL bought it brand new for $46k ....$30k cheaper than the cheapest competition at that time . @15k miles egr was leaking and steering stops squeaking from running the frame. At 20k miles dpf filter replaced. The truck surged badly the entire time i had it while towing. I kept telling them it was surfing like it was losing boost and asked if they could check the waste gate. Only response i would get is "this truck doesn't have a waste gate".
Traded it in for a 2018 Titan xd sl midnight addition ($46k)
@18k miles egr leaking. 22k miles dpf replaced. 27k miles def system replaced. 32k miles truck was surging like previous truck. Rctv valve(electronic waste gate) was replaced. At 34k miles injector failed and destroyed the motor. Got it replaced. At 36k miles headlight stopped working. No warranty because tab on back of headlight was broken. Imagine that, they had the entire cab off replacing motor but broken tax on headlight was somehow my responsibility. At 39k miles towed to dealership. Was told a couple sensors not under warranty were replaced at my cost after having my truck for many months. After arguing i paid. Picked up truck and it was still doing the same thing. Took it to another dealership and they had it a week and fixed under warranty. Corrosion in def harness to ECU. Wire harness harness replaced.
Transfer case replaced,4wd error warning unfixed for over a year , radio replaced, def pump replaced again at my cost. Truck has 78k miles and i just purchased an extended warranty because i can't imagine what needs replaced next.
Love the truck but Fck Nissan. NEVER again will i buy a Nissan.

Are the known problems with the Cummins 5.0 simply an issue of poor maintenance or is this a design flaw also. If you change the oil every 5k does that simply avoid the problems? Or is more substantial and diligent ownership needed. I've loved the idea of the XD diesel, but wary of a purchase because of the bad press of the 5.0.

    • @brandoncrimmins6296
      @brandoncrimmins6296 4 месяца назад

It’s a design flaw, but not from Nissan or Cummins. It’s a design flaw of the EPA. The only issues these trucks have is largely related to their having to add useless garbage just to meet EPA emissions guidelines.

I thought the turbo was goin out but had it checked and the turbo egr valve was carboned up bad. I ask when i bought it what maintenance i need to do to the engine and they said nothing. Everytime i took it for a oil change nope dont do nothing to the engine. Well turns out i should have had it flushed and diesel treatment goin thru it. So, I had to take it over to Nissan which in my eyes was counter productive since the part and install for the actuator is covered for 10 yr 150k miles for the titan 5.0 cummin's. Currently at 138k miles and first major issue.

97k miles I ran into a bunch of random issues.
~Injector #2 O-ring had “disappeared,” causing a loud knocking sound, I just cleaned the injector and put new o-rings on it. Cost me $16 to fix myself. (Dealership wanted $1500 to replace whole injector)
~fuel lift pump started leaking. Found out an o-ring on top where he T is was bad. Had an o-ring kit laying around, so cost me $0 to fix. (Dealership wanted $1700 to replace the whole assembly)
~front engine cover started leaking. I tightened all the front bolts. Fixed the issue.
~door handle seals were bad, allowing water in and when it froze, it broke the assembly. I hear this is a common issue with Altima’s. Covered under warranty.
~Turbo actuator-how do these actually fail? I can turn my truck off, wait 3min, turn my truck back on and reset my check engine light. The turbo actuator acts normal. It typically also pops the check engine light then acts up only when it’s hot, and I’m in stop and go traffic. Winter is coming, it won’t come on during the winter time. Only summer. So why? You can’t just say it’s broken. There’s something internal going wrong with it that I bet someone could easily repair.

I need to add in, 105k was he last issue I had. I’m at 140k right now and I haven’t had a single issue since 105k miles. Before 97k miles I never had any issues.
I absolutely LOVE the truck. I’d buy another. Only thing is, is you want this truck, I’d recommend having some sort of mechanical knowledge. The truck is so so easy to work on. Easier to work on then the ol 5.9 Cummins.

Currently seeing a small power steering leack and break master cylinder leak lol.

I own a 2016 Titan Xd Platinum Reserve. This truck is very underrated and has a ton of potential. My biggest complaint is that everything is so expensive to fix obviously being a diesel and not having aftermarket support and having to go back stock. They made these trucks in my opinion to quickly without enough research, especially with the tranny. The truck shifts rough. If this truck had an Allison transmission linked with the 5.0 this truck would be an ultimate package. I have a sour taste in my mouth because Nissan will not recall things that are breaking on everyone’s truck. They just throw there hands up and say it’s on you. If you own this truck, get a warranty and extend it out as long as you possibly can. I have 116k and I’m replacing my entire turbo system which is costing me 8k with parts and labor.

I have no real reason to own a diesel truck (I don’t tow or haul anything) but I want the extra power and turbo noises lol and these sound fantastic. So far I hear very mixed reviews on the Cummins engine but I’m thinking I should just take a leap of faith and try to find a titan with a good service history and even possibly already had some of the typical failure parts replaced. Id like to delete it and for any newer diesel truck deleting it seems to prevent common failure issues with turbos/egr/emissions stuff.

I'm naive, with proper testing and I do mean proper testing of the engine before it is released onto the public there should not be the issues that they have. Never trust your suppliers! Everybody cuts corners to squeeze a little more profit every given moment and Nissan should have kept a close eye on the early intro of these units especially to a public not used to diesels.

I have a 2016 titan pr, the truck was amazing for the first 50k the past 16k has been rough. I’ve had to replace the egr cooler, turbo actuator, LP turbo and the coolant reservoir. I change the oil and fuel filters every 6k. Overall I love the truck but the recent repair bills is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

How much the turbo actuator replacement cost?

    • @TheFishRider
      @TheFishRider 9 месяцев назад

@@vicenteortiz7244 it was covered under warrantee. Nissan has extended the warrantee on the actuator and the high pressure turbo.

I owned a 2018 Midnight, at 125,000 it dropped a bearing. 32k later after a new engine install, new actuators, 2 separate dealerships working on it, it never made it 3 miles without throwing every code, even ABS, straight to limp mode. Nissan fired all of its diesel techs, rare to find a dealership that still has one. Nissan does not want to see these trucks roll in. No shops want to work on them, because its a bastard. Nissan electronics on a Cummins. But I bought the truck at 90k. Never an issue till the bearing dropped out of nowhere. I loved the truck overall, but once the problems start, runnnnnnn. Only thing I did was have a Fass lift pump installed. The factory plastic junk will crack and leak eventually. With that said, I’ll never go back to a diesel to haul my rock crawler around, I went big gasser!

My 2019 Titan XD Cummins, in under 2 years, has been towed twice from the engine not starting. Has been sent to Nissan tech's 3 other times for limp mode codes/ reduced engine power. Piece of Junk. 45k miles and under warranty (thank God).

    Capabilities,
Needed something heavier than what Nissan could provide.
Ended up with a super duty diesel.
Now probably going to a mid height roof van. And will probably go with a transit due to Nissan not offering one in all wheel drive.

Low mileage? Get rid of it quickly. Still a good value. Get your money back and buy a f-150 instead.
I have a titan Cummings a well and I recently had an emissions problem and would cost me a fortune to fix it without knowing for a possible further problems so I deleted the whole thing. It runs great now but !!!!!!!

They would have been more successful if they would have used an inline 6 turbo instead. V diesels are very difficult to make reliable. You don't see any over the road semi's running V blocks.

    Reliability and not impressive payload.
It was not a reliable truck with all the emissions and the fancy turbo. I bought one but left me stranded. Gasser XD is much more reliable.
In general, XD should have went with a smaller diesel engine (same tow capacities but much better fuel economy) OR it should have made higher payload capacity in 5.0l engine. 1500 lbs on Platinum and 1700 on Pro4x dont inspire confidence. People are putting 2500lbs on these trucks and they are doing fine. They should have rated it higher or gone full HD.

You're right in other countries.Nissan makes an incredible diesel.Don't know why they can't bring an endto the state.S that's the reason why toyota was gonna take that engine at 50 before nissan did and they backed out for some reason they locked out
