I appreciate seeing a heavy orientated video without a pocket medic 24/7
all the SMD videos off siN's channel is just fake news with a pocket
This is the true meat of the heavy main chain, providing cover for the team and helping advantage push when the opportunities are right

    • @HyperStormH
      @HyperStormH 7 месяцев назад +19

It truly is a shame that SMD constantly relies on pockets to generate high frag-streaks, especially as HWG, because it's clear that they're very skilled at the game; they just don't push themself much to not rely on pockets. If I even watch them, I have to watch them on mute to avoid second-hand embarrassment from all the E-key spam.

@@HyperStormH right! when I play heavy I rarely call for a pocket unless we're being steamrolled, then I ask a friend or another willing player if they want to swap to medic with ubercharge to help push the team to victory, I still ask the medic to prioritize healing and pick who would be the best to uber into the fight, it solely doesnt have to be the heavy to make it count
The difference between a good heavy and a great heavy is his ability to manage their 300 healthpool while fighting, choose their fights accordingly and always position themselves at an advantage near healthpacks or behind cover (BIG REMINDER, HEAVY SHOOTS FROM HIS EYES, USE THIS INFORMATION TO YOUR ADVANTAGE!!!!!!!)

    • @Kejmur
      @Kejmur 7 месяцев назад

It also creates a bad habit of casual player medics ALWAYS ubering a heavy, when it's just not the best choice in some situations. Against heavy engine nests Demoman is hands down the best Uber target (or if you can't get close enough), because he can simply destroy them pretty easily if you give him precious invulnerability or critical hits. Demoman with Krietz is one of the most scary things the player can deal with. Heavy most of the time doesn't work, because rockets from sentries simply push him away, and if there is at least one pyro as a support, he will be pushed even further. And once it happens, heavy is too slow to return quicky enough to keep doing damage before Uber ends. Heck, in really close range I personally prefer to Uber Pyro over Heavy in some specific situations. Of course in some cases (defending point) ubering Heavy is perfectly fine, but not always.@@denzy_lolol

brass beast is so underrated and tbh I dont fully understand why. Yes its obviously going to be generally bad for attacking because of how slow you are, but when you are using as intended and defending on payload or holding down a point it can be stupidly good if you have good positioning and a semi-competent team as it lets even a full health non-overhealed heavy challenge a fully overhealed one thanks to the damage resistance and extra dps it offers

Heavy taught me alot in Team Fortress. It really is more like CS:GO in a way where the spots on the map and your team matter alot more and everything needs to be kept in mind and used well for the solo Heavy main that is very cautious and conservative in play style to actually get and keep a killstreak going.

This is a quality gameplay. Most heavy players still think they need a medic to have a good K/D ratio and because of that, people consider heavy class easy to play with no skill required. I hope this video makes them change their mind

    This video is incredible.
I'm an aspiring comp heavy and as such I've been trying to up my casual game before I even think about signing up for a team. I've been specifically trying to play the game with the fewest deaths, but I was told by a wise sage heavy that heavy's too fat and takes up too much healing. So, I've been trying to play the game solo and without a pocket medic. I've already seen substantial improvements! But now you've dropped some of the most educational gameplay I've seen for heavy since... ever. Thank you so much.
I think in terms of actual video quality, you did outstanding. A couple issues I have are having annotations split up, so you have to wait to see the second half of a sentence. There's a couple spots in the earlier parts of the vid where you're explaining a lot of basics. I think you could do just fine with decreasing the font size a bit in order to make it all fit, and just making the time before the text fades longer. I also think you skipped a couple of good talking points when skipping through the vod, but it could be something you've already explained before. Overall, great video quality wise. Its a godsend for geeks like me who like to dig into the details and min-max their gameplay.
That being said, would you be interested in doing this more? Maybe reviewing other demos by other heavies, or playing other game modes like cp or koth? Would absolutely love it if I could get on that list.

i used to be a sniper/spy main but once i actually tried playing heavy with a tryhard mindset i fell in love with the class, heavy is insanely rewarding if you have good map knowledge/position/game sense. Mostly i prefer playing maps like 5gorge and coldfront where i can flank and jump enemies around corners
the heavys mechanics are extremely simple but it allows you to full focus on tracking to max out your damage output, and positioning/game sense to be in the most optimal areas to catch people at point blank range. if you get good at these main functions you will become a casual server terminator, always appearing in spots where the enemy has no time to react and having aimbot like tracking ability. always avoid lines of sight longer than 10 meters, you have no reason to be seen beyond your miniguns effective range, always hug walls and whatever you can to hide yourself and break line of sight to enemy until you are close enough to melt them
i really prefer the tomislav/fists of steel/sandvich loadout, sometimes swapping sandvich for banana.

Lovely gameplay. I've been looking to get into playing HWG more so this was very helpful and insightful. There's so much nuance and strategising that goes into playing HWG without a pocket Medic, and yet people still see him as a mindless W+M1 class, given how much pocketing is pushed into the meta. Hopefully, this video will help curb pocketing and lead to more skilful HWG gameplay within the meta.

I mostly like to think Heavy's role as similar to armoured vehicles in modern warfare, needing a lot of support from his own team to thrive and in turn, support his team back. However, while the Medic certainly is the best at supporting the Heavy, other classes can help a Heavy too, from Engineer's building assisting Heavy in defense and attacks, to just simply being around other teammates like Soldier, Demo, Scouts, Pyro and Sniper to assist them either by providing protection or direct fire support (a Heavy and a Demo together is an especially deadly combination that helps to even a matchup against Vaccinator medics).

I've only started watching this and I find that your callout about 3 dead power classes (at around 2:30) to already be noteworthy, and nice call on how the game UI can help you determine gamestate without having to speak to the team. (Though admittedly, in a pub, the entire team could have been composed of power classes... oh who am I kidding, the average pub is still going to have 3 spies and 3 snipers, so fair enough.)
EDIT: Oh nice, a voiceover. Much better for someone who is playing at x2 speed.
EDIT 2: Finished it, the voiceover section was pretty good, overall this video is very good, especially knowing the vast majority of players tend to play with heals, so seeing Heavy gameplay without heavy medic heals and/or competent medics is pretty eye opening.
EDIT 3: I just noticed you don't have much Heavy stuff. Lol.

This is kinda unrelated but using a shotgun in KOTH (not referring to fat scout but a true pairing between primary and secondary) being able to deal damage while being mobile allows you to chase or escape more easily and also bait opponents who won't expect you to switch to minigun lol, not having a sandvich makes holding and pushing a bit harder but the extra mobility the shotgun grants makes Heavy much more fun for me imo, not really ideal in stuff like Payload though since if you want mobility you're better off going scout or solly obviously but yeah, definitely not strong but still very fun

It allows one to actually fight back against Soldiers and Demos while dodging their spam and corner firing, run to enemy Sniper's position while dodging and chipping him, deal with ambushing scouts and pyros quickly because 2 shots from shotgun is better than revving up and dying 2 seconds later.

Another idea may be 'how to properly use a shotgun with Heavy'. I personally like this weapon choice, especially if there is enough healing support. One of the ways to use it is 'faking' being a fat scout, quickly hiding, revving the minigun, and mauling the players that run into you. Or you revv the minigun, drop someone to low hp, and quickly switch to shotgun to finish them off. Yeah, a sandwich is usually a superior choice, but this additional mobility and ability to pick different fights than normally heavy does IMO works fine.

I'd say Heavy is a defensive support class. This doesnt mean solo offensive heavy is impossible but just know there are more limits due to limited ability to pick fights and retreat and limited damaged in needing line of sight as shotguns can work well but usually bringing your own healing is better so its like your own team support.

The second banana is pretty good if you aren't pocketed, a free 200 health every 10 seconds isn't nothing.

Scary, I'm curious, do you think you'll try to implement the 'sandvich nomming cancel' as I call it where you say another voice to stop the om nom nomming heavy does? I do it and I think it's pretty nice
Also, are there ever times where you feel that you stay revved for 'too' long?

Yeah I probably should voice cancel the sandvich voice line, I always forget.
I definitely stay revved too long sometimes, there were a couple of times during these games I should have pulled out FOS and backed up but instead I stayed revved and ended up dying

i used to play whit the shotgun when im in blue, is very good for instead of wating for a oportunity u can move whit the shotgun make some shots to the sniper and make his rifle flick and repositioning behind or hide whit the minigun. and in red always go for the sandwich because u dont need to move a lot in defense.

NGL, good as this is, I think your play style would massively benefit from more Tomislav use. At the ranges you typically fight at, its DPS is far and away better than the stock Minigun’s.

Heavy gameplay commentary is rare, so I appreciate you making this. The annotations are really helpful to understanding your thought process. However, it would be really nice if you narrated them as well. Maybe you could record commentary while re-watching your clips, or even do live commentary while playing. Also, not sure how you would fix this but the annotations get covered up by RUclips's UI overlay when you pause (progress bar, settings, pause button etc). Maybe just put the annotations in the closed captions instead?
Edit: made this comment before reaching the Borneo section, so it was a pleasant surprise to hear you doing a voiceover for it.

I feel like the reason I basically die on cooldowm in tf2 is because of my positioning. This video will probably help me more than aim traning, even though I miss point blank with pyro 😢

I honestly think that pocketing a heavy isn't that bad of a choice if the enemy team is kinda bad (not uncommon), and the heavy is legit. It'll most likely win you the game.
If the enemy team has some good players that know how to focus on heavy, then yeah you are right.
But considering how medics in casual pocket heavies the most, I don't think there are false expectations there.

I like this format. i prefer the voiceover to the captions. i find the darkening of the screen when captions appear to be distracting, its hard to read them and watch the gameplay at the same time, they go by too quickly, and with voiceover i get better context on what ur commenting on, because you can time your voice just so. And if you do decide to do more captions, make sure the caption is one contained sentence/ statement, or, don't let sentences spill over to the next caption. and/or use a hyphen at the end of the last word to show that its continued in the next caption, otherwise i find it very difficult to read. Thanks for the video!

It could be your positioning, or it could be a timing thing as well. If heavy corner peeks during a team fight he is going to get a lot more value than if he corner peeks when his whole team is dead or rolling out

“Since most of heavies skill ceiling is game sense and positioning” couldn’t have said it better myself, the fact the minigun is a shotgun does most of the aiming for you, playing heavy is almost like playing asshole sentry engineer except you’re the asshole sentry. All about being where the other guy least wants you to be.

Too hard to concentrate on gameplay and annotations. But despite this there is an unbelievable amount of instruction from this video.
