    when i was 7 my dad took me to his work as a driver, and i got to drive one for 6 miles... ah the 70's

    Ozone layer what ozone layer wheez , love it thanks for uploading , aparantly these were quite common in the sheffield area back in the day ,
    I never got to see one though so very happy one survived .

    These had a terrible reputation for poor reliability, but I guess that will have been sorted. Good looking locomotives, though. What were the main reasons for failures in service?

      From what I've heard there were cracks in the engine

      From what I've read on Google, they were prone to camshaft and cylinder head problems.

      @@thomaswilson8741 Thanks for that lead. Apparently they had two horizontal Diesel engines intended for DMUs that were never built…
