Have you considered getting into welding? I started last fall ( no expert here) and it’s been a handy skill to learn.

So, a drawbar extension makes towing safer?

For my chassis that had a really short drawbar and less than ideal axle position yes. General rule of thumb is within reason a longer drawbar will make a trailer easier to reverse and less twitchy at speed.

It's a double bed size mattress so you can work that out based on that.
