A US$6 billion railway ties the fate of Laos, one of Asia’s poorest countries, to China’s, the world’s second-biggest economy. The project is integral to the plans of Laos’ communist leadership to plug Southeast Asia’s only landlocked country into the global economy and fast track its seven million people out of poverty. But amid signs of progress, thousands of people have been displaced and forests have been cleared to make way for environmentally destructive industries.

This is a absolutely absurd nonsense video trying to smear China, its investment, and Laos development. Here are the disinformation and misinformation the video trying to mislead viewers and portrait China as a bad investor/actor. First of all, China-Laos HSR is a risk to Laos???? Well, can SCMP answer to me what kind of investment has no risk? Do you think only Laos has risk of inability to repay it? Do you think China also has risk of losing its investments as well? Second, China's investments drive up land price??? Hello? Could you please tell me which investment or whose investment would not drive up land price? Do you, SCMP, think that US investments would not drive up land price? Third, China's investments do not meet the need of people???? I would like to know which people and what need that China's investment need to meet? What about the majority of Laos people want the country developed and want and invite China's investments. As an investor, China or any country has to put money and take the risk to invest in this poor landlock country. It is Laos government, NOT China's investors to decide which people and what need they have to meet. It's not the investor's obligation....Why don't I hear SCMP report so much benefit this high speed train has brought to Laos people but only hear how bad China's investment is? I wonder who is paying SCMP and the person in the video to constantly smear China's investment in this landlocked country. That is right I remember Sam(U s a) has dedicated $300millions into a program to badmouth China. I am sure SCMP has benefited from this program...so shameless.... If China is not helping and investing in this poor landlocked country that covered with bombs left behind by Sam(u s a), could you please tell me who or which country is willing to help it? Why don't the vvest help Laos but then constantly smear China when everyone see the fruits of China's help and investment in this country??? Why? Can't answer that?

Actually the answer is very simple: it's property relief, not trees and "traditional" lives. He's right, people's lives can't be instantly improved by just one railway, if the "conservationist" really care for the local people, they should ultilize the infastructure to build factories, schools or promoting tourism for the communities, at least don't let them live as a primitive. Why they don't move to the deep forests themselves to enjoy the "traditional way of life where people live with nature"?

Has China forced Laos to develop? If this is the will and decision of Laos after careful consideration and careful evaluation, then it is fair for Laos to bear its own consequences no matter what ! You know, China bears a high risk of investment. Let's say a company decides to expand and take out a loan from a bank, it's not fair and ridiculous to criticize the bank for lending you money and burdening you. Impacts and burdens should be predictable at the beginning, right? Why blame others!
