yes indeed. Luckily the tyranny of the wheel is not normally an issue onboard. We have a simple vane/trim tab self-steering system which is a real delight and a bit unusual on cats as you would know. Appreciate the comment. Stew
You guys have really upped the production level. Always look forward to your videos as you have to be my favorite sailing channel mainly because you guys actually sail quite frequently but I also like the maintenance videos too. You managed to capture on camera how rough it can get exiting that one cut but I'm sure it was worse than it looked. Your Wharram seems ideally suited for the Bahamas. Loved the b-roll drone footage...what kind of drone do you have? Looks like Joe really enjoyed himself, you two are quite the hosts!
My yacht was a monohull, I used a windvane system sailing in the Mediterranean. It was great and I loved letting the yacht just feel her way. But on occasions when we had seas on both rear quarters, the windvane and electronic self steering cannot cope. Had 8 to 9 hours helming, muscles like Popeyes by the time we reached the marina. Your sailing some beautiful areas.
8 to 9 hours! thats too long on the wheel, I find my concentration is long gone after 4 hours and start making mistakes, especially on a mono in quartering seas like you say. Yes, the Exumas certainly live up to their reputation. Quite surreal to be surrounded by such colours and water clarity. You still sailing ?
yes happy with it so far. it was either this one or the superwind 350, which is heavier but good German engineering and a clever feathering blade system

Hi there I just recently subscribed to your channel and is watching your videos, I too dream of sailing around the world to all those exotic places. I do follow a couple of other sailing channels and do enjoy the footage each week that everyone channel is putting up I hope to be do this some day soon keep up the good work and take care of yourself and the ladies be safe and fair winds. Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago
hi Aldeau thank you very.much for your note. We are so happy you are enjoying these videos. We wish you the best of luck following your dream soon. Stew and Zaya
Yes was along time I was never so glad to reach a port. Yes I’m still sailing not so much now. Love your wharram cat wish I’d gone down the cat route for faster passage making. Your limited with boat length and width in the marinas. My yacht was 31ft, 34ft with the bowsprit. I found my ideal boat length would have been 36to 38 ft, as you can get into most locations, the gin palaces and larger yachts have to lay off. What’s the drought of your cat?
We draw 1m or 3'2'' - so nothing at all really. Makes the boat ideal for a place like Bahamas where you can skid across the shallows, cut miles off legs and sneak into amazing spots. We are quite sensitive to weight though - always the compromises! Not sure how we would fare in the Med cost wise... we wouldnt be able to stay long :-) Your mono sounds sweet. I like medium to smaller boats and as strange as it sounds, ppl think 38' is small today!
Ha, yes it does look a bit like that but fortunately the times we encounter conditions like that are quite short lived and adrenaline kicks in :-) Thanks for the suggestion
I think you missed a golden opportunity @ 7:18 when Zaya started dancing at 7:36 - a few moments (and I know she couldn't see what we see) of her dancing in that sunbeam would have been internet gold with the right music. I know, life moments aren't scripted, they are experienced, and made the best of with the footage available, but still. Every time a wave crashed into that sunbeam; If only Zaya had been dancing in the Sun. Something almost seen yet wished to be seen for a poet to create a dream gathering randomness out of the Universe and turning it into a moment of understanding for a single person unknown to them to experience long after the poet is gone.
Nicely put mate and I can tell you I realised it when the moment was gone. In my defence I was hanging on for dear life trying to keep the camera stable to grab what I could... not good enough I know....
@@SailingLuckyfish So few know moments of importance, even as they are witnessing it. Fewer still are captured for other people to experience. For this reason the writer was created to tell the story of some life experience which not everyone can experience. Hi guys how's it going I'm enjoying your videos I'm just Green with envy seeing you sailing the Bahamas and drinking beer made in my country when are you going visit Trinidad and Tobago we just recently had carnival celebrations be safe out there and fair winds.

I own and have used that full face ocean view mask. Many people have died using it because it will suddenly leak and fill the breathing chamber. I've had it happen at a depth of about 3 meters. Please be very cautious.
+irench Zaya has learned the same thing and we hope this and the last video raise more awareness, especially via comments like yours. Thank you! Stew and Zaya
Aye m8’s! Those cuts are a thrill, very good caught! Interesting solution on that Narai 40. Did you get how it’s reacting in heavy seas with these stiff beams?
Good question - My assumption is it is stiff as a brick given that it is not just the beams holding the two hulls together, but the bridgehouse as well, Cheers m8 !
+MiQ Bohlin Production cats are assembled very differently. Normally a single deck moulding including the bridgehouse and a hull moulding that includes the bridghouse floor, underwing etc. Those two are then bonded like a toasted sandwich, after all the interiors are installed. Pretty impressive scale and out of reach for amateur construction generally.
Definitely! ☝🏽 What I meant is that this Narai both got the volume and the simple aspects all together. With totally different budget. And not that hard to obtain. 👌🏽
Yes and yes!! I think seeing Meander in this video might re-kindle the discussion about monocoque'ing Wharrams... for me I really like our centre pod and the visibility and ventilation we have. Meander has the aft cockpit space, albeit behind a very tasteful low-aspect bridgehouse... they executed really well. they are very different layouts that is for sure. But how about that bed eh :-) ?
that's the Exumas, Bahamas. Yes, Zaya found it comfortable and easy to use, but, if it gets bumped while you are u/w.... your whole face floods and can be a shock first time it happens. She snorkels with normal mask now.
Hearing Tory channel sent a shudder down my spine mate. As crew on my brothers Roberts 38 we tried an entry there to get to shelter many years ago. Long story. Ended up proceeding north and entering at Queen Charlotte.

Ian Simpson hay its better than PBS (which asks for donations all the time, and is also federal tax funded) so who cares. These people have to make a living to, and boats are one of the most expensive things you can buy and upkeep.
Ian Simpson, that is fairly harsh criticism considering that you probably don't know Stuart's and Zaya's circumstances. This couple lives very frugally and sustainably and gently challenges others to follow suit. If you were to watch more than one episode you would see that. The level of production is among the best as far as Sailing channels go and it takes a lot of work. The fact that you feel a little discomfort because they ask for a small donation and therefore feel compelled to comment negatively with disregard to the truth is what is really "Shamefully ugly." Many other sailing channels ask for tips...Have you not watched SV Delos? Please get over yourself.
+Tim K thank you and well put. Not much is free these days but our vids are. Kind hearted people are helping sustain them so the likes of Ian can enjoy them too. Simple.

Are you guys still sailing?
Wow beautiful water. Where exactly were you, where is that plane from?
Thanks for your sub - yes a stunning place. The plane is on Fowl Cay, next to Rocky Dundas in the Ewuma islands, Bahamas. Cheers
What is the degree of rake of the masts on lucky fish
foremast 9 mainmast 7.5 degrees
Do you have a link to the facebook of the couple on the Narai 40? I'd like to pick Larry's brain on how he modified his wharram.
