Afro-Alternative is a London based Dj music collective comprising respected Soul/Disco/Jazz-Funk club and radio djs Victor Anderson and Akin Shenbanjo Jr.
Victor's Djing and broadcasting career goes back to the 'rare groove' glory days of the 1980s with the legendary LWR, one of the seminal London pirate radio stations, playing Soul, Funk, Boogie, Jazz Fusion, Afro & Soulful House and Reggae, and which has led him to play his music all over the UK as well as in many countries around the world.

Akin has carved a well earned reputation on the London UK soul/funk underground circuit both as a club and radio dj, one with a keen music ear and club dancer's sensibility. His first taste of the dj bug came in 1981, having been invited to spin at his 6th form high school disco. Since 2020, he has been presenting his weekly 'Rhythm Heritage' Soul, Funk & Jazz themed online radio show on OurSalsaSoulRadio, and via its Mixcloud podcast.
In March 2024, Akin joined Street Sounds Radio to present his new 'Masterjam' weekly radio show devoted to the very best in Soul, Disco and Jazz-Funk.
In November 2023, Victor Anderson and Akin launched their joint 'Afro-Alternative' club project, motivated by both Dj's mutual respect over the years and shared passion for Soul Funk & Jazz inspired music, and a fundamental desire to keep the Soul/Funk flag flying in offering a viable music 'alternative' to what's currently out there in so much of the nightclub world, both domestic and global. Afro-Alternaive made its successful club launch on 24th Nov 2023 at popular venue The BBE Store in Hackney, E8.
Both Victor and Akin are united in their commitment to profiling the music and dance culture of the African Diaspora, most specifically the Soul, Funk, Blues, Gospel, Jazz and Latin inspired sounds of Black America and the Caribbean, in a way that communally informs, inspires, as well as entertains.

I really appreciate that every dj set is different. Every time we discover something new!
We need track lists and recording dates for each of the posts on this channel. A lot of these tracks are obscure and hard to find because of neglect by the popular media and taste, and the artists deserve wider recognition.
