  • In this multi part series Joel introduces the History of Turtle Island through an Indigenous lens. This video series was created to bring awareness, perspective and understanding of a history not taught in the main stream education system and is meant for an older audience as it examines some harsh realities of our history here on Turtle Island. I hope you enjoy and learn something new.

Thank you, I am Mostly Swedish, Irish, Choctaw and Latina. Embraced my mothers healer line that goes back generations. Our family was colonized internally and externally. We lost everything, except the teachings that have been passed down orally. I have always felt like an outsider, never fit in anywhere until I started learning about our people. It has been 3 years of tears so far, some spiritual, some physical, at times both at the same time. Cannot tell the difference until I touch the water and salt on my cheeks and feel her wetness, it is the only way I am able to distinguish between them. Finally discovered rest for my Two-Spirit nature. I feel like I have finally discovered my home. Now about to turn 50. My spirit is at peace and learning all I can. In school here on Turtle Island. "Ashland OR" Southern Oregon University, Decolonizing myself and my family the best I am able. The water now caresses me in the summer when I swim, I have rediscovered her very real life that I experienced as a young child. Thank you.

Sharing this on Thankstaking Day in the US. Thank you for providing this. I work in cultural tourism in the US west, people are unfortunately very surprised to hear how advanced & complex the Turtle Island era was. I love blowing their minds explaining that many cultures in TI had representative governments with consensus council leadership, an extremely advanced form of "democracy," a form that we are a long, long way from ever implementing in the US. Trade networks, diplomacy, military strategy, peace keeping, agriculture, mining, religion that seems to have been rarely abused, incredible preventive & non-invasive medicine, ecologically balanced systems for obtaining food - North America was hopping & growing & progressing the whole time. The bold lie that the nations were stone age peoples who never advanced is still being promoted all over liberal & conservative circles in USA.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and teaching about your cultural heritage. I live in Canada for 3 years now, I had no clue about how things really are here before that, especially regarding how Indigenous people were and still are treated.
    Thank you!

As someone who was raised outside (for the most part) of my native culture and not recognized by my tribe until July of this year, I just want to thank you for sharing your knowledge as well as your emotions. The videos you provide have provided me with a great starting point to connecting with my missing culture. I'm finally beginning to understand myself and fill the void I've always felt.

This world is a spiritual war of good and evil. We are always struggling to keep our identity, remember where we came from, and struggle to make sense of what's good in our families and trying to remove the bad, promote the good while still keeping our identity.
Keep trying! Don't give up! Help the youth also stay in the boat, and remember who they are. Sometimes also when you try to help the youth, you find more strength, as you are acting on good thoughts. Try to not think or give into bad thoughts, and replace them with good positive thoughts. You can pray for this also and for help. And pray for the revival of your tribes. You can bargain with God to help rebuild your tribe if you promise good things in return.
You can also practice self sufficiency to help your family. And something interesting is going on. People are starting to mistrust the tyrants and kingmen. And they see the g o v s are not good to anyone. This is an opening for people to try to rekindle hope of rebuilding native cultures because people see that the way of KINGS is captivity. We all want to be free.
    Hope for the best!

That so devastating as a child to carry so much weight on their shoulders, placed by others prejudices! Every child should be pride of their heritage, especially nativ/indigenous children. They come from a strong people, resilient and ancietn wisdom!

I was in High School in the 80s in Ontario and Native culture was treated very respectfully then. Not sure what textbooks you're talking about or how old they are but I'm 52 and was taught to respect Canada's first people's in a conventional public school.

Dear Joel/White Buffalo Circles, I hope this message finds you well. I'm an art curator in Tongva land and would love to connect with you to discuss possibilities of showing the content of these videos in an art exhibition that I'm preparing for 2024. I don't know how to contact you since there is no email associated with this channel. Also, I don't want to include my personal email in this message. How can I reach out to you? Thank you.

I thought the first Thanksgiving was after the massacre of our people ( I can't remember how many) and the pilgrims had a feast to celebrate. Where did the version I heard come from?
