Can I confirm any fellow V40 drivers that V40 has a bit big turning radius? I used to make an U-turn easily at an intersection on the way to work, but since I got my V40, I always need to make a two point turn which makes me nervous as the traffic from the opposite direction is fast. Other than this, I've been enjoying the drive very much which is solid, quiet and powerful.
Volvos are the most reliable EU made cars and my 4 years old C30 has been flawless . the v40 is not available in Canada Why you may ask ? well because Volvo treats Canadians same as USA. The Americans don't buy hatchback but Canadian do but no V40 for us. The leas expensive Volvo here is 44,000 CAD,
serge vivier Kills me too, but Volvo announced the V40 or C40 is going to the US next year (model year 2018). I hope and pray we'll get the hatch in 2019 latest, and that Polestar gets to play with it, AND that manual and diesel (d4) options are available. Needs power and efficiency options but I love this for my post TDI purchase, already.
Have driven my T5 V40 for many years, only serious complaint is the incredible harsh front suspension. You must be very careful driving it. Getting tired of bent rims. Even had both front tires damaged on a speed bump hidden in a tunnel. It’s very nose heavy.
When changing everything from original left hand drive to UK right hand drive. The day they can be arsed moving the hand brake from what is now the bloody passenger seat. Then I might consider buying a Volvo.
Alex Gia Unfortunately i'm not in the position to change 10% of the enitre world's transportation infrastructure. So until its either all left, or all right. Not changing the cabin to suit the drivers position. Is still a sign of corner cutting.
I found this really informative and balanced. The best review to date on this car. Thanks! I'm debating which engine to go for (D2/D4) in R-design Lux Nav trim. I found the D2 a little sluggish to move off from standstill, roundabouts and lights, and feeling 'heavy and slow' on the M5 motorway trying to keep up with traffic flow in rush hour. But the D4 - wow! Such a power house. LOVED it.. But my mileage pa is approx 10,000 and I do a mixture of town commute to/from work, with occasional open A-roads for community visits. And then at weekends it's motorway and A road leisure driving for the vast majority. I'm finding it hard to decide between the best engine for me D2 or D4. Any advice?
Dominic Joseph Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad it was useful! No question in our mind, go for the D4 - CO2 emissions of just 99g/km means it's still free of road tax, and its real world economy isn't far off that of the D2. But, as you've discovered, it has much more power. It's an engine choice with no downsides.
Trouble is! All New cars just don't appeal !!, all this eclipse design shapes, I don't get ! they all just look like a a pile o sh1t, respect to Volvo quality though
