The collaboration Barbie X Baby The Stars Shine Bright is such a funny doll, because Barbie is waaaaay too proportionally long for the dress. I think because the dress set was designed to be sold separately from the doll they didn't really bother with her styling, but she always stands out as one of the most awkward barbies I've ever seen.
I think also the fact that her hair wasn't styled and the face sculpt at the time make her super awkward looking. She would look great with a superstar sculpt face and some styled hair I think!
I actually own the first Moschino Barbie, she's so beautiful! I really want to get my hands on the Juicy Couture Barbies...but that might be the 2000s nostalgia kicking in

I was also wondering if you were going to do some more of the one-off mid-90s designer Barbies - Calvin Klein (the one with all the jean fabric), Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen. Anyway, this was still a great video. I didn't realize Vera Wang had done as many dolls for Barbie as she has.
Versace Barbie has a special place in my heart. When I was a kid I moved from my home town to another city and I had strong attachments to it since I was born there and grew up with my cousin. My fam doc was still in my hometown and the waits were loooong. They had a shelve full of magazines and I always went for this one that had the Versace Barbie ad in print along with a perfume sample (idk if they still do those btw maybe I’m giving away my age 😂) but I’d stare at that page for hours! She was sooo beautiful I’d never seen a doll like her and I scoured the Barbie collector site. Of course she was both sold out and out of budget for 7 year old me 😅 but I’ve always wanted to have her.

I've always wanted to have one of those Moschino barbies but as the time goes by i fear their vinyl/pleather outfits will start to crack and I'll be spending 500$ for a flaking outfit. I actually have one of the guo pei dolls, blue and gold lunar new year. I got my chance to buy her when mattel creations had their black Friday sale last year. I rerooted her to have longer hair and a hime cut. I also have the first mackie holiday angel. Once again mainly bought her for the doll herself lol! I can't think of many designer barbies i want, Moschino are the ones i like most cause the style fits with barbie's general aesthetic so well! One that i was surprised by and want to get eventually is Pottery barn kids barbie. She has the most adorable pijama set. Granted we got a similar set for the barbie movie fashion pack but that one fits more loose (I still love it and i have my rewind schooling around Steffie doll wearing it) The Aleali May fashion pack is one that comes to mind that i actually really like and wanna get sometime.
The Bill Blass barbie was stunning!! There was one that was a colab with believe it or not a very high end fancy brand of dishes that are mad expensive but I can't remember the name exactly. Of course the Mackie dolls are my favorite
The Tarina Tarantino doll is a strong contender for favorite Barbie in my collection. There are only a couple that might edge past her, for purely sentimental reasons. I reeeeeeeally wanted the Anna Sui Barbie back when she first came out--in retrospect I regret not making more of an effort to acquire her at the time. Other designer Barbies I love are the Todd Oldham collab from 1998, and some of the spectacular dolls Brian Lars created in the late 90s/early 2000s, especially Sugar and Mbili.
It's pretty wild to see Moscino here after having only known them from their sims 4 collab. It was Not well resived, they announced the collab on a stage infront of super excited sims fans - yet they got meet with COMPLETE silence. Maybe the pack would've been remembered more fondly if it had had Moscino's moren out there dresses and nicer make up.
The 2004 Juicy Couture barbie 2-pack set is my favorite of the designer collabs (Anna Sui is a close contender). I just really love that there's two girls and they are fully decked out in the iconic JC green and pink color combo and come with a tiny dog

i used to get the collector catalogs back in the day when they were still issuing them, i remember the loubiton ones VIVIDLY. but my favorites were always the Byron Lars 2011 ones. Sugar was my favorite, but oh, the whole collection is stellar, so much detail in the hair and clothes and even the makeup! honestly, just an incredible juxtaposition of shapes and fabrics! truly worth checking out if you haven't, tbh
The Vera Wang bridal Barbie was the first Barbie I ever bought that wasn’t movie- related. I usually only bought the celebrity or Hollywood Barbies But that combo of the hair and the face on that Barbie made her look almost angelic. Looooove her!

The biggest example I can think of are the numerous references to Alexander Mcqueen in early 2010s barbies (such as silkstone darya dressed in fall 2010, 2010 holiday and hb vampire both dressed in fw 2008, silkstone walking suit possibly inspired by fall 2009)

She wore that dress on the runway and looked stunningly beautiful. I don't understand why they made the Barbie doll version with an "Evita" type bun, when Jerry Hall wore her signature long hair cascading from one shoulder. Even the makeup is more dramatic on Jerry Hall. But do look her up. You'll see what I mean.

Omg that 2004 Versace barbie!!! Me and my cousin entered a Barbie fashion design contest and the price was this barbie! My cousin won, and I thought it was unfair bc her mom helped her make the barbie's outfit.... We were 5 and 6 years old at the time and I got Clickits jewerly as consolation prize. Idk if there were different categories for adults and kids, but I remember how amazing the adult collectors creations were. I remember thinking how weird it was that you couldn't take the barbie's dress off or even pose her 💀 My cousin kept her as decoration but idk if she still has it somewhere.
On my wishlist are still Moschino pink doll, The Blonds. Easily over 300$ sometimes I've gone over 500$ and lately I've been trying to limit my purchases as I'm starting to run out of space. And from experience I've learned what I'll end up keeping and what I might get bored of sooner or later so I have to be more picky and just resist the fomo. Like tomorrow the 65th anniversary Barbie is releasing and I'll end up missing out on her cause Mattel decided they don't care enough about international buyers to fix their shipping problems...

That's a good point about zeroing in on what you like best. I really like ones with good display boxes, and anatomically proportionate. I'm figuring out what I like. I like the 90's and naughties ones a lot. I just received a used 2006 Wizard of Oz Dorothy today and love her so much I wanted to cry. : )

Idk if it counts as a designer Collab but my favourite one is the Tokidoki collaboration in 2011, the one with pink hair is everything! I based my outfit on that doll when I went to watch the Barbie movie XD
Omg that 2004 Versace barbie!!! Me and my cousin entered a Barbie fashion design contest and the price was this barbie! My cousin won, and I thought it was unfair bc her mom helped her make the barbie's outfit.... We were 5 and 6 years old at the time and I got Clickits jewerly as consolation prize. Idk if there were different categories for adults and kids, but I remember how amazing the adult collectors creations were. I remember thinking how weird it was that you couldn't take the barbie's dress off or even pose her 💀 My cousin kept her as decoration but idk if she still has it somewhere.

There's actually suite a few pictures out there of the 1993 wax replica of barbie and the original (much more gold toned) outfit. Much bigger hair for that outfit too, I wonder why the mass produced doll has such a tight bun look.

Easily over 300$ sometimes I've gone over 500$ and lately I've been trying to limit my purchases as I'm starting to run out of space. And from experience I've learned what I'll end up keeping and what I might get bored of sooner or later so I have to be more picky and just resist the fomo. Like tomorrow the 65th anniversary Barbie is releasing and I'll end up missing out on her cause Mattel decided they don't care enough about international buyers to fix their shipping problems...
@@Yukiokoba I am the same. I had already spent $400. this month when I asked. I'm now at $450, after reaching $500 and returning $50 worth. I try to stay to the $300. mark. I'm disappointed in myself though because I spent $500 last month and wanted to make up for it somewhat this month. I might have to take a month off buying entirely. That's a good point about zeroing in on what you like best. I really like ones with good display boxes, and anatomically proportionate. I'm figuring out what I like. I like the 90's and naughties ones a lot. I just received a used 2006 Wizard of Oz Dorothy today and love her so much I wanted to cry. : )
