I shop Aldi every week, and have stocked up on their canned salmon, light tuna in water, sardines in water, corned beef, and chicken. I also have some cans of chili without beans for a fast meal, and that way, it will make more. I prefer clean ingredients, but there isn't always much choice. I live in a rural county, and don't have lots.of choices for shopping. One thing I discovered I love is kippers! I get them from $Tree and sometimes Kroger, if they have a sale or a coupon. My favorite meats are the ones I can myself, but I haven't been buying meat from the store because of price and because of questionable farming practices. We buy fresh, local meat and chickens that we trust, and it is expensive, but worth it. It's kind of a treat.
Would love to be able to afford a generator, but that's really expensive for someone like me. Love your channel, keep up the amazing work that you do. Thank you, Thank you!
I like the Brookdale chili with beans and meat. I brown 1/2 pound 93/7 ground beef season it, drain then mix with chili. Then add a 1/2 pack of mama casas taco seasoning, a can of black beans, and a can of corn. You can serve it with lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and shredded mexican or cheddar cheese on top. Add fritos scoops, or aldis bit size chips. Very filling! Omit any ingredients you dont like. To double your servings, just double everything listed. This usually lasts me 2-3 meals.
Their sardines in water are good and I have plenty of them. I prefer the Sam's Club canned chicken to Aldi for quality and taste. The salmon is a favorite at $2.99 per can it wins on price and quality, I do own quite a bit of the corned beef along with the spam type canned meat. For a really cheap protein, I also have their Vienna Sausages.
Thanks for this detailed video on Aldi meats, Chef Prepper. I'd like to hear more about sardines and salmon variations - if others are also so interested. Best wishes to you and yours!
I have shopped Aldi since they set up shop in the Midwest in the ‘70’s. It’s amazing how they have evolved. I don’t like the integration of name brands into their inventory though. I love their canned Albacore and fish in pouches, their version of Spam.
I would like to see a comparison that includes turkey spam, spam (I know you don’t eat it, you can omit the taste test), corned beef, chicken, and salmon. I used to live in a small fishing town in Alaska. I have worked as a commercial fisherman, and as a cannery worker. There is a huge difference in the quality of salmon, especially pink salmon, depending upon how late in the season it was caught. Salmon lose a lot of fat as the season progresses. Most of the fish canned near the end of the season was getting pretty nasty. If you were to pick one up in the center of its body, it would droop like you were holding a wet dishrag. A lot of those fish were actually falling apart before they were processed. Also, I would like to see you take into account different species of salmon, Red vrs Pink vrs Silver etc…. Thanks for another very informative video.
Les, thank you so much for your help with my prepper pantry. I'm new to this, but with your knowledge I feel safe and confident that I too can do this. I live on disability (which is small) I can afford this. Thank you Les!!
We shop at Aldi, Walmart, and Sam's Club mostly. For me, my number one criterion is and always has been taste. I have never been a label-conscious guy. I am a fan of processed meats also, in particular SPAM. I remember the old processed city hams that came in fairly large cans. They do still offer a small can option, but as an adult, I don't like the taste as much as the way they processed it back in the 60s and 70s when I was a kid. But there are a lot more options of canned meats that they offer today, and you have just barely begun to scratch the surface of the beef and pork options. Enjoy the show.
Some nice canned options. I can’t do soybean oil though because of the pain I get in my joints after eating it. I like to keep items in my pantry that I can use everyday and not just for SHTF purposes.
I really like ALDIs Brookdale corned beef and corned beef hash. I’ve tried numerous brands and I prefer Brookdale. It tastes good and at a good price. As someone else mentioned in the comments, the canned chili from Aldi is good, too.
Here in Australia.. We have Italian Style Tuna Chunks in Olive Oil ($1-29) It is a bit more expensive, but the small tins are worth it to mix with a cup of cooked macaroni, a teaspoon of Remano Basil Pesto and grated Romano Parmesan cheese over the top. We have Ocean Rise Sardines in Soyabean Oil (89 cents), and they are okay at a pinch (gotta be really hungry) but I prefer to mash them up and mix with flour, ground tinned corn and garlic powder to make bait pellets for catching bream, bass and other fish. I don't like the canned corned beef much, but I *do* like their dried Biltong, and I will occasionally rehydrade it or put it in soups and stews. The shredded chicken breast is okay...it's edible (pass) but not a fan. I really like the Aldi stock cubes, though (Chefs Cupboard) and have recently been making rice congee (savoury porridge) from ground rice, chicken stock cubes, onion powder, shredded canned chicken from Aldi and shallots that I grow myself. I guess you can make anything flavouful enough if you add a lot of herbs and spices to hide the taste...
@@MyUtubeScott I had a family member work there. Aldi prices are low bc they keep the # of employees down. Conventional stores have many more employees.
I think Kirkland is being a bit dishonest w/the chicken. They say “about 4 servings.” Aldi says 3.5 servings. The can weight is the same, the serving size is the same. 🤔
I am listening and not watching this one. When you asked, I chose the Salmon!😊 It's actually the oonly canned meat outside of corned beef that I purchase there. Not fond of the tuna and my hubs doesn't like conventionally canned chicken. Thanks for this comparison video. It's a good one!
My biggest complaint about Aldi is they have very few options for people with health concerns - how many millions of people have been told by doctors to cut down on sodium, for example? Hormel has a low sodium option from that Mary Kitchen subsidiary. Maybe they can contract with Aldi to make their store brand.
With the understanding that daily dietary preferences aren't going to be the reason someone starves to death, it would be good to be able to keep with your program as long as possible after an event. In this context, it would be great to see a series of videos on food acquisition and storage from a carnivore perspective. Therefore, no plant based oils or non meat ingredients to as great an extent as possible.
Someone did a taste test on corned beef hash, and Hormel sucked, and Libby’s was said to be delicious. The bad news for me is that nobody carries Libby’s. We had to order it on line, and had to pay shipping. 🤷🏿♂️
One of my favorites is canned roast beef and gravy.......bought most of mine at doll general.....but a few from Aldi and some keystone brand from Walmart
I tried GV roast beef from Walmart and won't buy again. Did not like. Are other brands tastier enough to justify the cost? I'd like to try Keystone but the shipping makes it too expensive.
@@cathybestlercurtis i have about 200 cans of the clover valley brand from dollar general and I like them especially for soups and stews, and open roast beef sandwiches......keystone brand is good as well.....but when I bought them dollar general was better priced per serving......I would suggest trying 1 can of each
Interesting that "Mashed" listed your number one pick, the pink salmon, in a list of foods to avoid from Aldi. Bad taste, pick out the bones, etc. But that video was four years old. Things may have changed, Aldi may have a new supplier.
It kinda looked like all those corned beef cans were from the same factory (EST 385) so the price may be the only real factor. But, even the same factory might make different recipes for customers (or just a different label).
I bought canned tuna from family dollar a few months back only because I was picking some other stuff up and wanted tuna. It’s mostly water. It takes two cans to give you enough tuna… at least it seems like it
I prefer the canned salmon from ALDI; but I prefer the Dollar Tree Pampa brand for sardines. They are moist & meaty and don’t have the typically strong fishy taste like most sardines. I have over 20 cans in stock. I never thought about canned corned beef. I’ll have to get some of that.
I feel ya! I moved to CO and there's not an Aldi in the state. I totally went through withdrawls, so now we do a haul whenever we go back home to visit family.
Aldi is like other store brands, they contract out and don't do it themselves. Comparing their tuna with Chicken of the Sea may have been comparing CS with itself under a different label.
If you can find it, I would get either white fleshed or purple flex sweet potatoes, slightly undercooked them cube them up into what would be normally potatoes and then macerate them with the Brookdale corn beef that you have from Aldi‘s make your own corn, beef, hash, or something high-quality and if you want, you can throw in a little bit of endive or collard greens for some better green vegetable nutrition Perhaps maybe blanched in a little bit of vinegar I’ve done this before
They did have Vienna sausage, but was pork based. We don't eat pork, so I didn't get any. I thought I did write down the price, but I can't find it now. But yeah, they have Vienna and Spam type of luncheon meat.

Hello diannemorris,
Good to hear from Australia!
Good ideas.
Thanks for sharing your experience and recipes.
Corned beef hash, I add scrambled eggs to it in a pan, and top with my favorite shredded cheese. Delish!
I do over easy eggs on top so the yoke mixes in YUM.

I get the sardines in mustard. Hate soybean oil.
I'm with you! I avoid soybean like the plague. I love my fish in mustard, spicy tomato and any olive oil.

Most corn is grown in Roundup too. They feed same corn to cattle, make cereal out of it, etc.

On the sardines. Skinned cleaned. The better cuts smoked (never smoked flavor) packed in own juices or water. Add your own sauce.
