So glad I got into mapping and map testing, seeing some of these maps that I've played on gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling and inspires me to keep improving.
Agreed, I'm so glad I've been able to play test a vast majority of these maps and seeing them as release candidates just makes you want to wish for the best of luck to everyone. P.S I actually recognize you from the TF2 maps US imp as well so hi :)
A map me and the boys love playing on is a Koth map called *Shorelight* - made by Zythe_. I'm not just shilling it because he's a friend of ours, it's genuinely a fun map based on.. well, a shore with a nice hero-prop of a big lighthouse. Worth the time playing it.
it plays much better than sulfur (and is more polished too). but adding any steel-like to casual is a terrible idea. why bother pushing a map only played in highlander into casual
While the map has existed for a while, I still think it's worth mentioning Bagel - the non-event version of Cauldron. Ive had so much fun playing bagel in both casual and competitive settings. It might be the viaduct format, but the raised gullywash-like control point adds a lot to the mid fights on the map. Additionally, the map feels very connected and has clear flank routes, which is something I always thought was lacking from maps that took on the viaduct style.
@@UEAKCrash I got the names mixed up with farmageddon, whoops. But yeah, the Alpine theme is overused, we gotta see more farm themes! And maybe some desert themes too.
Undergrove and Slaughter are two maps that I think would make excellent additions. They look great, the play well, and their Halloween versions are already in the game.
i would argue the same point for koth_bagel (cauldron in halloween) and pl_thirdcurve but let's be real valve and enforcing consistency??? also undergrove is terrible
There's also some experimentation I love seeing. Your own pl_extinction is one. Jump pads were always something I thought fit well into the game and surprisingly doesn't ruin many maps. Balance mod and TF2 classic has these added, and it just works as such a good alternative to the teleporter. pl_boatload is also so damn cool. It's just a solid map with water. I personally never liked water (due to lag, low water settings, revealing spies) but surprisingly, it works somehow. There are some that are in development too. cp_foresaken_downpour has an amazing contrast between darkness and brightness. Good stuff all around. Am cautiously optimistic for the summer update.
I think a mention should be given to pl_boatload, a unique take on a water filled payload map that seems both fun to play in and out of water. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop ever since I subscribed to it and gave it a test whirl.
I did play that one, but I can't say I was a big fan of the layout. It's a fun concept and I think it might be on to something, but I think it needs a bit more time in the gameplay oven. Just my opinion, though!
it's a shame we'll have to wait another year for chances at seeing these (and others such as bagel, warmtic, croissant, vigil, etc) vanilla maps added. imo new maps are all this game needs to keep going. maybe some refinement of the casual map selection (ie remove the least played idk im sure they have spreadsheets telling them how many ppl played 5cp_yukon last month and i will bet it's not more than 40) so the map pool doesnt feel oversaturated, rotating maps in and out is another option. all of this could easily be automated too
I'd love to see a series on this where you can showcase maps with certain themes. As for me, I loved playing a bunch of the niche forgotten to time stuff; So ctf_haarp, a unique "deliver the intel" cliffside winter map was always fun for me when teams were smart, and pl_morrigan alley, a medieval mode Payload where you must storm the castle are some of my favorite picks.
Holy shit, Majority of them are truly amazing looking maps; we can only wish that Janitor and the potted plant choose at least 5 of them (tbf, would love to play on every one of them whilst getting contracts done on casual) that would be really a nice additional touch for tf2 after 6 years of certain drought. Getting a full pack of 8-10 non-holiday maps added into the map pool, what a dream🙏🙏 :/

Same. Seeing Rotunda fully detailed caught me completely off guard.

It's so weird having known outflow and eruption as alpha maps back in 2018 and seeing them detailed like this today.
So many cool maps, can't wait for Valve to pass up all of them for pl_cumpee_b2.

I legitimately had not heard of Brew. I love 2cp gorge-style maps, and that fall urban theme is just stunning! I'd love to play on it some time.
I feel like caldera deserves a mention, it isnt a new map but it does the steel like formula really well and plays even better

Thanks for talking about Street. I'm very happy of how that map turned out :D

Bagel is definitely solid and deserves some love. I helped with the event version of that map, and I'd love to see the base finally get in.
*0:04** you did that. You Created Own Update. Not Ours! :'D Also that update always my mind since 2018.*
Love the maps showcased here, but we honestly need more farm themed maps, it's so unused
Byre was the last farm themed map added, so yeaahh
...I was actually making an english countryside farm themed payload map but I messed up by detailing too earlier and idk how to continue it
My map Farmed, or the map Farmstead, perhaps?
@@UEAKCrash Those ones are great, but I meant like, non Halloween maps?
@@joltz..2042 Neither of those are Halloween maps. I'm suggesting some more that could be looked into that are farm themed :)

I've played Outflow quite a bit on Aar's TF2 server and it's such a fun map! This map is so fun to play on as a Scout or Battle Engie!
Brew is breathtakingly beautiful. Props to the devs!

Mappers should go ham and make territorial control maps
Some do, I'm personally not a fan of the mode so I don't
Very nice picks, I dig most of them.

jump pads are the reason they never added koth_bagel to vanilla casual

That's a good idea, delving into some early TF2 mapping history. I'll add it to The List

Empire gives me heavy csgo vibes
6:10 . . . I should call him
outflow looks very inspired by hydro.
Hydro was also one of the very first maps to exist in the game along with 2Fort, Dustbowl, Gravel Pit, CP_Well, and Granary.
what's the medal on your sniper that looks like the hammer logo?

Do people hate atk/def ?
Not in my experience, no
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM INTERESTINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
