- Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye recently just came out of a nearly 3-month refurbishment. Despite many people claiming Disney only updated one thing, the Attraction has seen many changes to its lighting, visuals, and even in some cases, it's story.
How much of the attraction was actually changed during the Refurb? Watch to find out!

The moving walls in the chamber of destiny is one of the greatest dark ride illusions of all time. Kinda breaks my heart that it will probably never be restored.
Great breakdown, especially because the ride has existed in such a sad state for so long. I'm excited to see it in its refurbed state, but I wish Dinosaur would get the same love though.
Ya, hopefully dinosaur will either get the care it deserves in the near future. Having malfunctioning Dinosaurs in a ride about Dinosaurs is a little disappointing
Yes, and SUPER disappointing to go to the opening of Animal kingdom in 1998 thinking Indiana Jones was there. And it was dinosaurs instead. Boo.
@Enzo Discovery well the internet wasn’t exactly prevalent in 1998, maybe they heard a rumor that a ride with the same track as Indiana Jones was there and misconstrued it as being Indiana jones and didn’t have Google to fact check.
TPMvids' latest video says dinosaur will be likely replaced with indiana jones adventure when dinoland gets replaced with a central american land
The improvement (that could realistically happen) that I most want to see is dummy tracks to the other doors that look like the real track.
They’re there but since the vehicles never actually use them and leave tire marks they look less convincing.
@@pookiepooh The couple feet to the sides of the grooves have completely different textures on the dummy tracks.
The sides of the real track are flat and smooth, and the dummy tracks just have the same stone texture as the rest of the floor.
Just imagine the 3 spiritual forces are actually the 3 hitchhiking ghosts from the Haunted Mansion.
Kind of wish they kept those yellow-ish lights in the queue
It would be super cool if they made magic bands vibrate in the bug room
One minor change that I’m glad they made is that they re-added the end of the theme song back to the end of the ride instead of just fading the song out. Never figured out why they did that in the first place
I always thought the lore that behind the gates of doom is a powerful gem that Abner Ravenwood sent letters both Indy and Sallah, the message said that the pilgrims disappeared from there, possibly that’s what happened to the tourists and Indy has been searching for it and believes that the gem is powering the temple itself. I think the refurbishment made it look like the gem had so much power that Indy struggles to keep the doors closed and doesn’t have much strength for long.
Also that explosion sound and puff of smoke just to the left of the rope bridge is way louder if not completely new. EDIT: It looks like it was there before. I just didn't notice it.
If theyre not gonna fix the shaky ropes, at least bring back some of the sound effects on the bridge. It's so quiet and awkward when the music drops out.
Yeah, I was thinking about how to fix this yesterday and I think if they’re not going to get the ropes moving, creaking wood sound effects would cover that quiet gap and still convey a sense of danger
After going on the ride yesterday, I can confirm that the lights inside the temple do indeed still flicker, but the ones in the entrance and exit no longer do.
Top notch videos... love the breakdown of the changes. Best ride ever! I super wish they could have rubble drop from the ceiling again. Even maybe a scrim and a projector... It was EPIC when it worked.

I’ve been riding Indiana Jones since I was little when I was 4 years old 1999 . I’ve ridden Indy almost my whole life . The refurbishment looks so awesome I’m very excited to ride Indy this summer with my cousins and they’re kids .
Thank you! What a great breakdown of what went on. I appreciate that you focused on that "energy spirits" thing so much including why the vehicle is in a hurry. It helped to see that over and over like that. Their narrative would be bolstered if they could get some new audio from John Rhys-Davies about "Hurry! They're catching up!" or something. Agreed with the other comments about seeing "rubble" drop down from the ceiling but I guess we're asking for too much there. Still, there were supposed to be 3 items to interact with in line ( bamboo pole, rope into well, and stone ceiling blocks ) and I'd really like to see those stone ceiling blocks work some day. It's been 25 years, how can they NOT get that to work?! How?
About the rock thing in the queue, I read that they got the effect but realized it would be dangerous for tall people.

Wish they would demonstrate the spectral energy "story" during the pre-show Sala safety video in the queue.
Maybe the three spirits mean something: A poison green spirit (Death & Plague - the opposite of Eternal Youth), A lead-silver faded gold spirit (Fool's Gold & The Lead Slug - the opposite of Earthly Riches), and an incendiary pink plasma spirit (Bad Luck & Eternal Pain - not the kind of thing you want to see from Visions of the Future)
I went in the ride in May 1995... I rode it again in 1998, 2001, 2011, 2017... It never ever measured up to the original time I rode it, they toned down the jerkiness of the jeep, the lighting became more neon, led and "modern"... the snake was always malfunctioning, at some point even the bugs on the wall were very dim and worst of all, the ball failed to rotate once. I'm so lucky to have seen the ride so close to opening in 1995 and even luckier to have that memory seared into my brain.
Finally, a breakdown video that doesn't have side by side video comparisons. Makes seeing the differences that much easier
I really wish they find a way to fix the shaking ropes on the bridge soon

These are my favorite videos. You do a good job explaining things.
I think having the "post" on top and "pre" on bottom, is hard to visualize being side by side. Pre top and post bottom would help the brain not be confused.
Not that anyone asked for my opinion, but I have to say I do prefer the darkish yellow lighting throughout the temple. Idk I guess it made it more creepy and mysterious haha
Some of this is disappointing imo. The dim flickering lights gave a "1940s era lights powered by a struggling generator" effect. It also gave a sense of foreboding especially at night. Bright steady lights are a little modern and out of place, and also seems to change the feel. I also think the rats no longer being there is a shame. It needed to be updated for sure, but not having rats at all is disappointing since Indy's dad was so scared of rats. It felt like a nod to the third film before just like the darts are a nod to the first. I understand the rope bridge safety concerns but it too is a shame since it gave a better "suspension" feeling, like the bridge could break as in the second film. I definitely love the updated lighting and projection on Mara though!

On the subject of the new energy spirits, I absolutely love their effects! I think they add a lot of story.
However, I disagree with your theory that they provide an "explanation" for why we are rushing through the temple. Even in the pre-furb version, the temple was always dangerous and there were always plenty of cues that we needed to get out of there ASAP. After passing the Gates of Doom, Mara continues to attack with fire and lasers, attempting to knock the jeep off the bridge and then coming out of the skeletal scrim image in the skull room. It was always pretty clear we were trying to get away from Mara, throughout the ride.
Not to mention all the other dangerous things in the temple, such as the bugs, snakes, pit of lava, skeletal warriors and the rolling boulder. 😊
I just noticed that the Mara statue in the beginning had hands, I’ve been on this ride 4 times and finally noticed them 😂

It’s a good refurb but the amount of things that still aren’t working are disappointing. The lack of fog in the pit and the static bridge ropes are really obvious now. The new scene at the end is well done but the execution is confusing. They shouldve really added a fake track going into that hallway.
I think the point of going fast is to avoid the lasers Mara is shooting at you, not to mention the entire place seems to be collapsing with Mara's wrath. Avoiding potentially venomous bugs, a giant snake, and traps too. The electric spirits look a little goofy to me tbh though I enjoy the hallway collapsing projection.
I think the green lazers shooting out of the skull are much more prevalent.

IMO it was the weakest effect in the whole ride. Plus is almost was as faulty as the boulder room. I saw it maybe half the time.
The sounds of rats are iconic because of the third movie but I think this is more immersive and in theme for the ride.
The rat room sucked.

Did you happen to notice any change to Indy's dialogue? Some of them don't sound familiar, or sound rerecorded/newly recorded? Or maybe they cleaned up the audio? I'll need to give a listen myself, because some videos might just sound off.

Don't do this... but in 1995... there was a 5 hour line... with LARGE gaps in who they let through. The single rope that separates the entry line and those exiting... was missing - or not hooked. We would regularly just turn there and rejoin the entry queue and no one was around. Which would now probably get you banned but then... we got to ride Indy like 4 times in a row.
Honestly great video. I agree with your point on the spirits who destroyed the hallway, can’t wait to explain to my mom what those are when we go…
9:28 you can see the scrim that the projector projects the flames from the cauldrons on the pillar is using. I was wondering how the flames appeared but it is a scrim for the flames and most likely a rear projector for the hallway spirit collapsing... Best ride ever. Though wouldn't it be neat to have an angry temple god blow a lighted smoke ball at you... like Tokyo does?
It would be neat, as much as I like the new projection effects, they do feel a little out of place in our version of Indiana Jones. I think the fire breathing statue would work better here and the new projection mapping effects better in Tokyo

To me when i went there for my birthday in feburary, it was closed and I was super bummed! but when my mom said my sister was coming over, and she got a ticket! we were going back and I was hyped! but the last time I went I was like 5 and just closed my eyes the entire time LOL
,"what's the reason of going fast" did you not see those beams coming out of tomorrow’s eyes yeah if I was that situation in real life I probably won’t want to get hit by those either in the skeleton room skeletons are scary you don’t want to end up like them you get out fast in the bugs room if I was in a room full of bugs I will probably want to get out to with the snake room or snakes just friendly to you apparently not to me I’ll probably be getting the heck out of there

I'm not buying that "mold" excuse for the pit when there is waterfall in there too. It's a fog machine....
still disappoints. Mist effects is one of most important effect in this attraction and turned off for safety of cast member sounds excuse. Thats nonsense, they just budget cuted it

The Jeep drove fast before the refurb because Mara is trying to kill you and the temple is extremely dangerous, so you're trying to quickly find a way out.
I have no idea how you couldn't understand why you were driving fast or thought it was a plothole.
With how great this all is RIP to the rat lore within the temple you will not be missed but you shall be acknowledged when brought up in history of the ride

Rumor is the actor's "favored nations" clause - with Johnny Depp - says he has to appear as much or more than others in the park. That is why we have 3 Johnny Depp's - Jack Sparrows in Pirates. There are 3 Harrison Ford animatronics in Indiana Jones.
Shanghai’s Pirates is phenomenal. Breathtaking, even.

Is the ride less bumpy? I have heard roomers that they change how bumpy the ride is at night than it is during the day, and do they run it at different speeds?
the ride used to be more bumpy when it first opened in 1995, and they have reduced the roughness a little bit because people were getting hurt. I am not sure if they change the bumpiness throughout the day tho.
The wall on the backside of the the hallway collapse structure is a flat wall. Not a big deal. But the apparent oversight is surprising.
tbh im disapointed with the new scene. the reason being is I love the fireball scene in the over sea disney park. i think that would of been way way cooler
The Hallway of Blowdarts appears to have gotten a new paint job and looks less cheap carnival funhouse,
4:20. Nah. There have been much more dangerous refurbs. Take the Matterhorn for example. There's such a thing as safety harnesses. It's a money thing...
Correct, but that is overly-simplifying things. Safety harnesses need to have an OSHA approved attachment point. There is nowhere on that bridge where they can attach the harness per today's safety regulations. The "problem" is that Disney doesn't allow grandfather law to affect updated safety regulations (assuming that's even an option.)

11:05 wonder how they fixed THIS moving wall but NOT the moving wall at the beginning when the doors are "selected".
because if i recall corectlly is was causing serious structual strain on the mechanisms and the building itself, which to fix would need the hole rood uninstalled including any wireing ect to get to the burnt out motor that moved the doors

It would require the show scene and track above Chamber Of Destiny to be torn out too in order to put in a new moving "room".

They really should have kept it closed longer to fix a lot more things… I mean this wasn’t that impressive come on guys!

@@danshull1331 the timing of the laser beams and explosions is way out of synch. They didn’t fix the broken air pressure systems in the dart room. As he mentioned in the video, the mist in the lava pit. They didn’t restore the original queue news reel or the countless audio effects that have been lost since opening.
The air pressure effects work in the hallways as usual. The sound effects that play are still out of sync just like the rest of the attraction. It’s mainly a problem with the LCU and is something that still puzzles the maintenance team to do this day.

@@LMGVids How is it hard for them to bring back old lost audio the need used to play? Also, why is it hard to synch the explosions and eye lasers to where the vehicles are on the tracks?
@@LMGVids forgot to mention also that the two snake statues on the bridge used to have fog and green lights that came out of them and that has not been working for years either!
New refurb reminds me of crystal skull, not right. Aliens and ghost?? That’s not Indiana jones! Though it still is cool.
so religious entinties and religious ghosts are cool and beleivable (thus literally making god or heaven real in the indie universe) but electricity spirits arent?
