I'm an executive chef of a beachside resort in Hawaii. I also consult on the side and have done a few TV shows including two on Food Network. I'm struggling with developing an online version of my consulting/coaching gig. Mostly with the getting started part. I've been pushing through things and realize it's probably the fear of failure holding me back. I had a restaurant group and the great recession combined with some bad decisions led to me declaring bankruptcy and losing my house. I've learned a lot and it turns out that was a very expensive education as it made me even better at my job. I don't love working for hotels but it turns out I'm really good at it and I'm pretty enslaved to the check and benefits. In the last 6 months I've dropped 45# and 9" off my waist. I've been sober for 11 years since I lived the chef stereotype hard. So life is good. I just want to make it better.

I'm not complaining, so far the process is very enjoyable for me because I love what I do, and I would do it for free (don't tell that to my clients!). Anyway, your videos, and more importantly, your personality, is very inspiring, you're the kind of business people I want to be like. I've learned so much from your videos and I'm grateful for the new resolution to make a video every day. Last year while watching some of your old videos I was telling myself: "damn, this Derek guy should have a bigger youtube channel, why doesn't he make more videos?". There are too many horrible clichés/tips/strategies on how to learn the language, and that's the culprit to why 96% fail to learn a 2nd language. This is only part of the problem. I feel that clients don't understand the importance of why they need the service. One of your previous videos addresses this which was great. Lastly I am struggling to get more clients, I don't want to use a cold emailing/calling method, but I believe I have no choose. I have used FB ads, and the like with little success. Love the content! My biggest challenge right now is finishing a game dev project I could be proud of and publishing the game on steam, and maybe even on consoles, but I always reach a point in my projects where I give up for a multitude of reasons (feeling that the product is not good enough for my target audience, fear of bad reviews, lack of motivation after weeks of hard work and meagre results, technical difficulties that force me to limit the scope of the project, leading to less motivation to work on it, ...).
I'm not complaining, so far the process is very enjoyable for me because I love what I do, and I would do it for free (don't tell that to my clients!).
Anyway, your videos, and more importantly, your personality, is very inspiring, you're the kind of business people I want to be like. I've learned so much from your videos and I'm grateful for the new resolution to make a video every day. Last year while watching some of your old videos I was telling myself: "damn, this Derek guy should have a bigger youtube channel, why doesn't he make more videos?". Hi this is Tony, I make Websites in WordPress, and top of funnel content creation for my local business clients. I've worked out a way to use videos to capture the content and then transcribe it for them. I have more than enough knowledge in "how to do" things like install WP, Email services providers, and basic audio/video editing. My struggle is creating content for others and waiting for them to schedule. I would rather create content for myself; It would be more efficient. I don't have a niche other than marketing topics that I think about. I am sort of an autodidact, and generally interested in many things. I am not sure that 'how to videos' is enough in this marketing world. Maybe I am overthinking it.
