- Izdihar Bailey draws attention to the fact that we are all susceptible to misinformation, and how that universal ignorance can lead to what she calls "liberal Islamophobia." Izdihar Bailey is a Lobbyist and a former Government Affairs Team member at CAIR-Washington State, America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. As someone who has lived life without Islam and is now empowered by Islam, she believes her life experience allows her to create stronger link of communication with fellow Americans of all faiths and political alignments. As a Marxist-Leninist, I definitely follow and watch her content. Did not know she was on a Ted Talk! I hope to cross paths with her, she generally comes across very poised and lovely.
She said she had more in common with conservative people than liberal and she did a collab with donald courter. Not much of an atheist either. Makes me wonder what kind of marxist she really is.
Yeah I haven't watched a Ted talk in years. I'm amazed they allowed her on stage. Ted is the epitome of liberal idealism.

Honestly, as a Muslim I can say that liberalism does not mix with Islam. Both "liberal" and "conservatives" actually have many anti-Muslim ideals. I will say though, us Muslims can fall in line more with conservative ideas than liberal ideas but at the same time we conflict on many issues.
Most "conservatives" are publicly Christians but being conservative is traditional like Muslim and Christian families.
In what way do you think you conflict with conservatives, out of curiosity? This is a subject that interests me.

Islamophobia is a confusing, ambiguous concept. It should be called anti-Muslim bigotry. The term Islamophobia is used by people to accuse people who criticize the RELIGION of Islam as being the same as people who are hateful toward the Muslim PEOPLE. Islam and Islamic culture can and should be criticized, just like Christianity, or Hinduism, or American culture, or European culture, or Chinese culture. There are good and bad ideas in every ideology/culture/religion. We should be able to criticize bad ideas without being labelled as bigots. Some of the bad ideas the come from Islamic theology/law: (1) dividing the world into Dar Al-Islam and Dar Al-Harb. (2) Being allowed to hit your wife if she disagrees with you. (3) The notion that people who do not believe in Islam will burn for eternity, etc.. Sincerely, an pantheistic, agnostic, Ex-Muslim Egyptian.

BUT.
Quran and sunnah had given us all Muslim guidelines on how to correct your wives if they or she happen to do smh that is not allowed or prohibited in Islam.
The hitting is the last resort and NOT TO ALLOWED HITTING THEM HARD. INSTEAD, it is only a hit for teaching. Idk how u people in middle eastern did this but in most SEA, using a ruler or a cane is normal..and it isn't even painful. It's like getting an Ant-bite (the one that is not lethal nor last more than 2 minutes).
So if u have anything to say.. It is more correctly to address that the problem u have is not about Islam..it is about the culture of Muslim-Arabs which doesn't occur in other parts of the world given that we hold on different sec,rules, culture, history and lifestyle.
But nope nobody here in SEA, ever really hit their wives for education usually people just went on for a divorce if talking doesn't work, verily the guideline is there for u to follow and consider but then again, Allah had given each one of us, a sane mind and knowledge so if u truly love a person what would u do for them?.
In Asia it is a culture to use a cane if the kids are extremely misbehaving, nope u don't get killed by it. It is just a few seconds stings that would remind u to always behave ...but yet again this method might not work for other kids..hence if it works..then use it..if u don't agree with it..do not use it..and just use ur words..

Islam is a choice of life, stop confusing others.I know what ex-Muslim always have this mission to declutter all Islamic ruling and the Quran to make it more modern they said..as if the written sunnah and scholar are not enough for u to gain a deeper understanding.

@@yummymellon4058 Thank you for your reply. I disagree with how you differentiate "culture" and "religion". They both influence each other, sometimes to the point that they are almost fused. To your point about hitting your wife, yes maybe in SEA they do not hit their wives (like rural Bedouins in Saudi Arabia perhaps), yet the conservative, reactionary core ideas are still there in Islam. These conservative Islamic ideas are shared across Islamic cultures, and there is a barrier to criticizing them because of the idea that innovation is prohibited in Islam (bid'ah بدعة). And I do not mean harmless ideas, but actively harmful ideas, like caning people in public or discriminating against LGBT people (like in Aceh, Indonesia). Even if progressive Muslims reinterpret the Qur'an and Sunnah to avoid these cruel and bizarre situations, the conservative Muslims are still a large force, and a majority in rural areas.

I've done the same thing to librals I tell them I'm Muslim and my whole family is Muslim and I'm white and my whole family is white they get pissed expiecally when I tell them I'm half Persian (Iranian) and half Arabic/American (white Anglo Saxon American) and they [Librals] don't understand. They accuse me of lying and when I showed proof they say but you're white..... The Conservatives understand very quickly and were fine with me being white and half Persian and half Arabic/Anglo Saxon American but librals get mad and say I'm not or act surprised like a person of Arabic/Persian and Anglo Saxon (white American) descent can't be white

@MrAbusamih honestly our congress needs a bit of diversity. Coming from a white male btw. My only concern is whether or not affirmative action is to hold for it, or actual ability. I'm leaning more on the latter. If you look at it, the % of people in congress vs the overall representation of race/culture across the U.S. is out of balance. White is what 67% of the population? (a lot of people will hold this to immigration, and in a sense that's true, but not to the extent that people believe it to be.) That shouldn't account for 90+% of congress. I do however think it'll take a generation or two for that to differentiate fully. We'll see.
As for religion and such, their in general, should be a separation of church and state (which currently doesn't exist). Don't forget that Christianity has done more genocide and massacre's in it's lifetime than any other religion in history. I personally don't believe in any god (or science for that matter), I just live my life and let others live theirs.
