You are so great for doing this. Every time I need help with my altissimo these are my go to videos. This is you’re homie and saxophone brother Fred from Fort Worth. Thanks 🙏🏾
Thanks for this great tutorial! I have something for you to try, see what you think: try altissimo F# fingering- 1st and 3rd primary tone holes of left hand (B and G) and 1st primary tone hole of right hand (F). And then to turn that F# into G either catch that right hand F# trill key OR add the middle of the three side keys with the knuckle of right hand (the one used to turn a B into C, though you'll have to lip it down because it produces a pitch between G and G#). I find this version to not squeak at all and you can even trill between F# and G quite effectively. Curious on your thoughts...
I know this is an old video but a video on the G in the Debussy Rapsodie would be incredibly helpful for people. You showed me in college a very easy method that had it pop easily when slurring up to it. I have long since forgotten what it was.
Thanks for this video! This is the video that finally got to me to play the note! I think the second fingering was key, it allows you to hit the note which allows you to get a feel for it. After hitting it like that I was able to squeeze the note out on the other fingering as well. Thanks!
Hey man thank you for posting the ferlings (TMEA pieces) even though I don't even live in Texas haha! You're a joy to listen to for somebody like me who just wants to listen to great players play great pieces.
depending on the intonation of your sax, I find octave key, 2 and 3 of left hand to work well for G#, add side D palm key of left hand to bring it up to A.
I also use a fingering like D5, but with the RH F key open. In other terms 1-2-3 | 5-6 plus the 8va key. But what I was looking for was a way to gliss from G4 to G6 (Aeolian song, measure 33-34). Any ideas?
Are you playing a Yamaha Yas 875 EX? I just purchased the YAS 875EXII Silver, love it!! What a sax!! It is really a piece of art!! I like your videos, simple, to the point!! Keep up the good work!!
Thank you very much for the suggested fingerings, however while using your second fingering the note just never works for me. I'm using buffet alto sax. I'm not sure if it's the design as whenever i play normal register notes they are always in tune. But whenever it goes altissimo, it's just very hard to produce the sound. Where do you bite your mouth piece when playing G? As i can play high altissimo (BCDEF) but not lower ones
@@dallassax does it matter if my saxophone is buffet crampon senzo? As apparently the design is slightly different and all the normal fingerings don't really work for altissimo. I have to slightly adjust for G# all the way up to D it's just the DAMN G that i can never play
My go to on alto is 1_3 in the left hand with 1 + Side Bb in the right. Very easy. For G#, you just do the same thing but play Side C instead of Side Bb.
a trick i do for altissimo G and G# for alto is turn to bis regulator screw back so the bis key leaks just a little and finger 1,3,4,6 with octive key. add side c for G#. i play most Bb's with first finger covering the bis key or 1,2 and side Bb. i only do this on my yamaha 62 that has a high F# key. my mark six without the high F# key doesn't need the adjustment and the notes pop right out.if you use 1&4 Bb, i wouldn't make the adjustment.
Great video as always! Also I was excited to see you perform at the NAfME Conference with Lone Star Wind Orchestra, my fellow sax players in the National Concert Band were freaking out seeing you there, we have watched all of your Ferling etude videos. Haha! Thanks for the tips!

Thanks Joey!! I have a 39 Handcraft, not sure how this will pan out on my sax. I will give it a go anyway!!
Thanks for this. Never been able to paly high G until now. It was the F finger down (along with the side key) that did it for me. Nice one.
Glad I could help!
wow this is so helpful. i insta get the g notes that i have been struggling for years to reach it.
frr my teacher showed me like 3 different ways and i couldnt get the g on any one of them and this one helped me sm OMGGGG

Outstanding there was fear of not playing the creston because of that note

My pleasure.
Thanks saved my struggle alt G 🙂❤️
And thus, a legend was born
Thanks you I've been struggling with g and g# on my altissimo. You know a good fingering for altissimo g#

I have to do this on a jean baptiste horn. Wish me luck.

Nice one! That works great with either one of your examples! 😊

PonchMuniz I'm playing on an 875EXII
HOW DID you know I was playing the crestón sonata-
Grateful for this video right here!
Thank you 👍

Holden Kwong Make sure that when you depress your RH index finger, it COMPLETELY depresses your his key. If it does not, it won’t work

What my altisimo G fingering is:
(Left hand) octive key, B, Bb
(Right hand) F, high F#, Bb on the side. It seems really easy
- Aj_legend27 - hey I use that for soprano

Ha. Should have come said hi after the concert.
I don't know why but altissimo F#3 and G3 just don't come out for me, although i can play from altissimo G#3 to E4 no problem
Anthony same here I can‘t get the F# and G out smoothly but everything up to a C# is working perfectly fine
Also do you know good technique exercises because I struggle with uneven fingers in region etude #18 when I go to tempo
scales with a metronome. there is no substitute.
dallassax but my scales are perfect the tempo of etude all 12 major and full range
then you just haven't practiced it enough at a slow tempo.
dallassax thanks. You are probably right. I've already made the first line cleaner by playing it slow over and over again
