The only thing I disagree with is bringing back old villains. The Master definitely needs a break, Daleks need a break unless he has a great idea for them, but I feel like Cybermen really deserve to be the main antagonist for once. I swear most of the stories with cybermen in the revival have them be secondary to something else (In Doomsday they're overshadowed by the Daleks, in Death in Heaven, The Doctor Falls and The Timeless Children they're overshadowed by the Master) or extremely underwhelming (Closing Time and to a lesser extent The Next Doctor).

A couple minor changes to the status quo, maybe a historical companion, less mystery box story arcs, serialised story telling. Also, I know this won't happen, but would cool if he made a no present day Earth story rule, in order to push writers to think outside the box more.

The casting is the single most important thing RTD needs to get _perfect,_ because no matter how well it's written (and we know RTD can friggin' write!), if the actor playing The Doctor cannot convince me that I'm watching a One-Thousand-Year-Old Time Lord, then the whole thing fails.

Finally, if they do bring back old enemies bring back those who never got a second chance like the Rutans. I think they have to have a Dalek episode contractually but I may be wrong. I don't mind having classic villains showing up but at this point, if they do show up, they should only have one story. And the classic villains should be spread out like one season, there is one Dalek story. The next season, one Cyberman story, and the next, The Master, or Weeping Angels. I do have faith in Davies to come up with some really interesting villains.

    1) A charismatic and engaging Dr. 2) A relatable and likeable companion. 3) Well written, exciting and compelling stories.
Get these 3 things right and questions of gender, ethnicity and wokeness (for want of a better word) will fade and only be discussed on the fringes of the fanbase. Admittedly that's all far easier said than done, but if anyone can do it, it's RTD. I wish him every success.

If you're going to cast a comedian, at least get one who trained as an actor (like Catherine Tate, Aisling Bea or Matt Lucas) not "a comic who's done a bit of acting", like Bradley Walsh and John Bishop. I like them, but neither is anywhere near as good an actor as some people seem to think they are. I want RTD to write episodes that are stories as opposed to standalones. This format works a whole lot better in Dr Who as opposed to 45 minute rushed stories.
I'm glad you're finally giving the Jodie era a viewing Wingy. Season 11 yes I agree not the best, but not the worst either. Season 12 was a great improvement & Flux was pretty good. I do agree with your view on the companions, although to my surprise, Bradley Walsh was very good in the role.
As for the tardis interior. I quite liked the Fugitive Doctors tardis. A touch of the classic era with a modern touch. That design has probably been my favourite interior of the new series since the Ecclestone/Tennant era.
Good watch Wingy & I look forward to a review of your thoughts on the new doctor.

    @JJfromPhilly67 2 года назад +2

Spot on with the Console Room. Of New Who, Peter Capaldi's TARDIS interior was best. As too all the others, didn't like them.
Agree completely on the toxic nature of what is going on. Yes, let's get a grip and just have a great actor with great writing. For a note on casting the next Doctor it has to be a really good actor (established or not), because the show is at risk. As with the casting of Jon Pertwee in 1969, the show needs a refresh. By 69 the heavy shooting schedule of 40 weeks had worn Patrick Troughton out and viewership was falling. But with Pertwee in front of the camera and the dynamic duo of Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks behind the camera, the show gained new life.

BRING BACK THE Paradigms please or bring back the classic ones and do something with them, or even sprucen up the Bronze design like done in the recent big finish artwork ,
and I love the Daleks and ace, but yeah I think im one of the many few now who is hoping for just all round good sci fi with non of the social justice stuff thrown into a show about battling robots, tin pepper pots and flying through space in a blue box
and dont write any romance with the doc please, it wasn't very good in series one/ two so please I prefer the doc to not do the romance with earthlings. but yeah I agree on the everyone was not at each others throats back in the day, yes there was negativity and always will be with change but this era had no soul in it at all, just shoving alot of political stand points and shoving alot of todays troubles into the mix when all we ant is good writing, compelling stories and emotional episodes is it really too much to ask these days

I'm sorry, but Yaz, Graham, Ryan and Dan feel very much like real people. Rose, Donna, Amy, Jack etc., are all fictional characters in a TV show. It's only really Martha that feels like someone you'd actually meet. Of course, with the exception of Ian and Barbara, and possibly Sarah Jane, all companions of the Doctor are archetypes rather than genuine people. Personally, I found the relatablity of those during Chibnall's run to be incredibly refreshing. None of them have intrinsic skills, gymnastics or typing at 100wpm or whatever. Yes, Martha's a medical student, much like Yaz is a probationary police officer, but neither roles define the characters, which is absolutely true of everybody in the real world. The most recent era of the show is the one most rooted in reality, in terms of the companions' reactions.
Also, Chibnall did a season of all new creatures in his first year and was hauled over the coals for it. RTD is more likely bring back Sil or Meglos than actually have a whole season of new monsters and villains.

Jodie was cast because she auditioned and wowed both Chibnall and the casting director. In fact she had to do several auditions before she got the role so she wasn't just handed it, she had to work for it and considering how beloved she has become, she was the right choice.

Just three examples of the dreadful lines Chibnall has inflicted on us - and there are many, many more. That fucking thing where you get images of worldwide TV news broadcasts to highlight whatever bad thing is happening everywhere in the whole wide world at exactly the same time. No! No! No! My worry is that it was still being trotted out as recently as “Years And Years”, but even by 2010 it was just cheesy, and had about as much impact as the return of the Daleks. Oh and also… stop this bullshit about how the entire universe and everything that ever happened and ever will is hanging by a thread and how will the Doctor prevent the total destruction of the entire universe and the history of everything and even time itself… no!!! Not everything has to be about avoiding the worst case scenario outcome in every single episode! It doesn’t need to be pitched as if it’s all gonna end in the destruction of everything if the Doctor doesn’t succeed! Coz unless the show’s actually due to end, we know that whatever worst case scenario outcome they’re alluding to just isn’t gonna happen! Make the episode more about the mystery and intrigue and high stakes drama of HOW the Doctor INEVITABLY foils the plot and avoids the nastiness, rather than centring a lot of confected melodrama around an outcome that clearly isn’t gonna happen.

Celebrity Historicals and proper comedy like "I just want a mate" and then Donna twists her head and says "you just want to mate?" or that scene when they're chasing Margaret "she's climbing out the window isn't she?" I want a man(black or white) back because the female doctor failed, if he does bring a woman then it's one-episode-or-I-go because I'm not watching an entire season and feel like I have to give her another go, after all, wasn't that the same with Whittaker. Oh, and I hope they don't explode the screen with too much CGI.

Here is my take on you saying "The female Doctor failed" as far as I am concerned if a Doctor can become beloved and gain legions of fans and do so much for so many people then they are not a failure but a success, this is true of every Doctor including Jodie Whittaker. So she absolutely hasn't failed, no one has failed in the role

    Hope no.1: Competence
    Hope no.2: Talent
Nah but in all seriousness totally agree with your list, only things I'd add would be a good new dalek redesign (that sticks and isn't shunted off to the side after their first episode) and some darn good new spinoffs.

I think your last point is, alas, impossible :/ About my own expectations:
    - Looots of returning villains but WITHOUT The Master/Cybermen finale, how many freaking times...
    - The whole Timeless Child nonsense ridiculed and later forgotten
    - Some stories on Gallifrey
    - Loooong multi-parter stories, but with one, strong and cohesive plot - in other words exact opposite of series 13 (Flux)

I can't get my head around why people thing the Cybermen have been underused, they have been underutilized! We need a good cyberman 1 partner that goes into body horror to get people to take them serious again, not forget about them becuase they have been a let down for the last how ever many years!

Interesting that you have actually been watching the Chibnall era: and yeah, you are right - absolutely no proper characters whatsoever

Agreed. People say that Chibnall's good at character-driven writing, but I just don't see it, at least not in Doctor Who terms; I've never seen such a collection of 2-dimensional, poorly written characters in the show's history. In fact, the best character writing seems to have come from the other writers Chibnall hired... and even they were a bit of a mixed bag.

Good video. I just hope the show is good again.
Chibs had no vision and was making it up as he went along (the magazine interview had him admit as much).
RTD is a man with vision. I hope he can pull it off again and unite the fandom.

He never said that though. In fact once he landed the job he knew he wanted to do the Timeless Child and cast a woman, these were part of his initial pitch so that isn't true, though certain things were made up as they went along which is true of both RTD and Moffat too, not everything is meticulously planned.

@@friendlyotaku9525 I admit haven't read the interview myself so forgive me for any errors, was it the Fugitive Doctor that he made up on the spot, rather than the timeless child?
There were definitely loads made up as Chibs went along, like Yas and the Doctor having an attraction for each other, it was originally Yas and Ryan who had hints of having a potential thing. It was just a very sloppy written era, and it is a shame because I know Chibs can write decent from his work in Torchwood. It is just a shame the era went as it did, looking forward to the change.

@@Rambling-Thomas there was loads made up in the RTD and Moffat eras too so I don't think that's a fair criticism at all. No era is meticulously planned in advance, some things just happen. Like thasmin came about because of Jodie and Mandip's natural chemistry and people could see something between their two characters which is why Chibnall decided to implement it and I think what has been done with that has been lovely so far

@@friendlyotaku9525 I don't think RTD and Moffat were perfect. I wasn't a big fan of Moffat's arcs taking 4 series to reach a vague conclusion. Were the Silence aliens originally planned to be space priests for example. Probably not.
Chibs is far worse though. Every episode he wrote before he got showrunner was pretty naff too. (Torchwood stuff was pretty decent though)
Remember the "Cubes taking over the world" episode which has the big build up which turned into nothing "The Doctor just goes on the ship and turns them off. The end". Flux had the same problem. Chibs is pretty good at a building up, but it is never paid off effectively.

@@Rambling-Thomas The Power of Three had its ending changed due to the actor playing the Shakri being a nightmare to work with, he was going to have a large role with a different ending but due to issues the ending had to be hastily rewritten which is why the ending we got happened.

He’s got a tough job to revive the series after a dumpster fire of the previous 3 seasons but if theirs one man I trust to fix the Shoe it’s Russel. I agree with its Russell’s choice let him cast as he nailed the 9th and 10th doctor imo
