@NM-xi8or I was not discussing music taste or anything, you can think that they are overated that's fine to me. But regarding "effortless" accuracy live like you said, they are on another level than Gojira and Pantera. There is no need to debate it, that's a fact. If you're a musician you can't deny it

Saw them open up in Kansas City in 07 with Machine Head, Trivium, and Lamb of God. My brother and I got there early and hit the bar at the back of the club. They came out to Flying Whales, so that slow intro started right after the lights went off. They all come out lookin' like Metallica from the 80's, all in black and wristbands. We started walking up to the stage and that shit hit... it was like we were walking in to a wall. There's no describing it. I was instantly hooked. There were a lot of memorable moments from that show, but to this day, my brother and I still talk about the first time Gojira hit us in the face with sound. No lookin' back since.

It's funny how the musical brickwall between the generations has crumbled. When I was young, no one that I knew of my parents age listened to the heavier music of the day. It is not that much about the nationality as about the fest itself. It's Polish Woodstock festival. However, they had to change the name of the fest last year. It is the biggest open air free festival, no tickets, hence so many people. And it actually doesn't matter if it is metal or reggae concert. There is no other place like that in the whole country, it is an enclave of real freedom. This is our sacred place and we celebrate each concert there that way. We warmly invite you to come and be happy with this extraordinary community we have there. The fest takes place on the Polish-German border on the first weekend of August. If Gojira wins the Golden Spinning award in the voting of Woodstock fans, they should come again to receive the award. This is how it usually works with Woodstock. However, big foreign bands rarely come for the award.

I was in the crowd that day. Didn't know Gojira before and it was pretty spontaneous. After like 10 minutes I realized that they were actually pretty good and the show just keeped getting better. Together with the overall atmosphere and the crowd I would say that this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The entire festival has an atmosphere that you don't see that much nowadays. Barely any phones at all and everybody is just living the moment. Definitely worth the 450 km car drive.

A 2018 show with no mobile phones in sight! No wonder the crowd had such a great time and everyone was so energetic and excited! Such an amazing show!!

The bassist does not get enough credit as the band's dancer.

I remember the first time I saw a live perfomance of Flying Whales Joe was the most sinister sounding thing ever and the bassist probably gave himself whiplash but god damn did he lose his fucking mind. These guys are definitely one of the best and most respectable bands I have ever heard.
