Claws on an oval mount, I’ve watched and rewatched this Chris and admire your self criticism. I have some really nice oval stones for rings 7x5mm and a little larger but I wish I’d never seen them. Try as I might I can’t get a mount that doesn’t look like it was made in the dark!! Glad to watch you struggle a bit, it gives me a bit of courage to keep trying

Brilliant, thanks Chris. I have avoided the claw like the plague but it's time to master this one. Thank you

For the claw position there's a template online you can download and print i belive.

It seems like if everything is symmetrical, if you put a mark at N S E W after you make the mark for your first claw in the NE quadrant, you could use your dividers to measure from the claw’s mark to E and then just copy that distance from E or W to the other three quadrants.

Hey I’ve watched all your video and I didn’t see you setting and preparing your claw for it, are you gonna make a special video on it ?

This channel is always going to be mainly focusing on the actual mount being made. Im not a setter but I can do a little. Maybe I will share what I know someday

What's the rotary bit you're using called?

I hate ovals too. I’ve just had to make four tiny bezel settings for 5x3mm faceted stones. The stones are too tiny to use as a guide. I can barely even pick them up! Then making and soldering in the bearer was a nightmare!

    You moved the claw,
what was your method for fixing the scar of the incorrect cut?

If it only moves a tiny amount just extra solder to fill the space. Its not ideal but it works

The one in the video is specific for jewellery but I have a very similar one from a stationary shop. Its from 'Staedtler' the code is 976 03

Hey ! I like to watch your videos but omg these commercials quickly take away my interests ... they are too many and after the 2 -3 commercials, I click on to someone else ... your technique is interesting . .
