It’s a song about their ancestors being victims of genocide.
The song is about how society unfairly judges those who die from suicide or a drug overdose. "I cry when angels deserve to die" is basically saying I cry when good people die from bad habits. In the verse "grab a brush and put a little make up" is pointing out that people with depression put on a 'mask' and hide it because of how they will be judged. "Why'd you leave the keys up on the table" is inferring that if you're going to commit suicide you won't need the keys to get back in.... great reaction though, SOAD is fire!

He knew what they were going to do to him. This song is about all the lost souls and hopeless angel people of today still dying from suicide while others mock them before and after.
Just as an academic curiosity, it should be known that the Bible has a few accounts within it that differ with to respect to what Jesus said. In one account he's unsure, asking "why have you forsaken me"? In others he is not.

"Father, why have you forsaken me?" Is what Jesus said on the cross as he was suffering and dying. And he was asking his Father (God) why he was allowing Christ to suffer like this. Essentially he was saying, "Father, where are you? Why have you abandoned me? Why aren't you here saving me from this?" That's what forsaken means. And the line in the song comes from that.
I think it has the different meaning form what Christ said. this song is about soucid (indeed Chup+sui +cide) we know He left his keys on table because he never come back home ... but hevanly Fother (God) has forsaken about people who kill himself as siners ( they can't be in heaven ) and Soad cry when these innocent people (like angles) die.
This is one of those bands that is absolutely timeless. They will not grow out of fashion and fall by the wayside like 80s hair metal or crunk music or Blink 182 type alternative, they transcend fad and enter into cultural icons. In my top 5 bands OF ALL TIME no cap. They are some of the greatest genre mixing and incredible talents

I’m a life long hip hop fan and I can say with no question or doubt that the best concert I have ever seen was System at OzFest in Camden NJ in ‘02 I believe. Only time I was even near a mosh pit and this music has always had a grasp on me. So I embraced it and everything that came with it.

"Chop Suey!" is the first single System of a Down from his second album Toxicity. The single was released in August 2001. The actual title of the song is "Suicide" (suicide); but supposedly prohibited by the manufacturer. But the words "We're rolling Suicide" can still be heard in the second stanza.
Although it is said that it was written by Serj Tankian after eating an unpleasant cap cay (chop suey), this song is actually based on Father Armeni's poem about the Armenian Genocide (System of a Down is of Armenian descent). Several verses of this song are taken from the New Testament.

I'd love to see their reaction to what happens in a moshpit and I mean 90's mosh not the watered down safety moshes they have now. I remember leaving a pit looking like I was in street brawl covered in other peoples blood, sweat and tears. Damn the 90's were fun.
