"As He died to make men holy Let us _Live_ to make men Free While God is marching on!" The original lyric is "Let us _die_ to make men free." It was originally an anthem for the military. The reason for the change by the Tabernacle Choir, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a whole, is because we believe that Christ died for all mankind, on all sides of conflict. Since He already paid the price, we must Live to make, or Help and Encourage men to be free through our Savior, Jesus Christ. As exclaimed in I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day: "God is not dead, nor does He Sleep." "God is marching on!" So we also must march on and help bring peace to this world.
Thank you sarah its was an honor serving and id do again in a second if the marine corps asked me to serve my country once more 🪖🇺🇸 you and you'res have a fantastic weekend and continue to put out the beautiful music you do stay safe 👍
Sarah, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and just wanted to share with you that the name of the choir was changed about in 2021. It is now called the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. It was called the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for MANY years. But the Church of Jesus Christ, under the direction of President Russell M. Nelson wants to emphasize that we, as church members, worship our Lord, Jesus Christ, and not the ancient prophet, Mormon. Mormon is the last prophet to compile and write in the Book of Mormon, so he is important, but not who we worship. Thank you for your respectful reaction to this beautiful performance by the choir.
This is a very old hymn, written during the Ameicn Civil War (circa 1863....) . It has since become one of the most if not the most renowned song in the repitoir of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Every choir in America knows it and I would guess and has sung it at one time or another. I know I did in high school.
Beyond the religious connotations, there is a major historical narrative at play here. This song was written, based upon the tune of an American Folk song called 'John Brown's Body', which was written in honor of a martyr, a white man who died trying to lead a slave revolt to free indentured African slaves in America. This song was written as a Battle Hymn for the Union soldiers, those opposed to slavery, who were going off to fight the Confederates, the supporters of slavery. Thus, when they say 'As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free' (in the original, it was 'let us die to make men free'), they were singing to the soldiers going off to literally free slaves at the time, written on the back of a song about a martyr died trying to free slaves, referencing a martyr who died to free us of sins.
Battle Hymn is one of their best and most famous songs, but I am a huge fan of "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and "All Creatures of our God and King."
@@kentroskelley1389 they are. All members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are volunteers in any position in the church. We do not have a paid ministry and all members have regular jobs outside of church. This helps us to focus on the simple truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Why would we ask for payment in doing what we love to do? Money can corrupt individuals who seek to lead others away, but when you volunteer, it keeps you humble and reminds you there is no monetary gain in leading others away.
Funny I stumbled upon this video, because my dad actually sings in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square to this day. Having a dad in this choir for over 8 years has been a massive blessing for me. I’ve been to the choir’s Christmas concerts (which are always LEGENDARY), the weekly Music and the Spoken Word concerts, Easter concerts, and all other concerts. I don’t mean for you to review these songs, unless you want to, but I think you’d really, REALLY like them based off your reactions to The Battle Hymn of the Republic: •Art Thou With Me •A Poor Wayfaring Man of Grief •Slow Down (especially good for calming one down during stressful times) •How Great Thou Art •Come, Come Ye Saints •Praise to the Man •Joseph Smith’s First Prayer These are all songs by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square which I have grown to love! Of course, there are still many others which are just as good. I hope you’ll like these if you try them!❤️
This is a Civil War Song about the war between the States which Freed The Slaves in 1865. The bloodiest conflict in American History nearly 10% of the country fought, 620,000 men were killed.
No other choir sings this hymn touching the heart like the tabernacle choir because they feel the comming of the lord in their testomony that Jesus is comming soon
Dear Sarah: Wonderful! But may I suggest that you reverse the images of you and the picture-in-picture? It would be visually more interesting if the ensemble is full size and you are in the corner. That's because the ensemble has so many interesting visual elements. Be well, Sarah.
Happy Veterans Day! Thank you for your selfless service and dedication. 🙏🙌
Thank you Sarah from a US Army veteran.
I was in choir in high school and we were invited to sing this with them once. It was one of the most magical experiences of my life.
I can imagine 🥰

This bring tears to Americans.
Hurrah for the Union!!! A beautiful rendition & reaction to one of my favorite patriotic songs
Tears and chills over and over again!
I'm proudly LDS. One of my favorite . You need to listen to the children choir sing 'Gethsemane'
I can really feel the same amazing experience she shows here, such magical and powerful performance

Beautiful!
Their enunciation is so great. It is as though they are singing with one voice!
The larger the choir, the more important enunciation is, or the words would quickly be muddled beyond all understanding.

Hi Sarah…. I had goosebumps in my brain as well. Thank you for honoring our veterans with this beautiful tribute 🥰
Thanks for your reaction!!! Amazing!
I understand The choir ,orchestra members and behind the scene technicians etc are all volunteers. What a wonderful commitment to beautiful music!!!

I would like to see more reactions to the Tabernacle Chior; especially to “Let Peace Then Still The Strife” and “It Is Well With My Soul”.
Magnificent rendition of a marvelous song. And your reaction is precious.
