- Warning: This is a distressing video. A video has been released showing a helicopter crash that killed four people on board a helicopter en-route to a wedding (December, 2016). The 32-year-old bride, Rosemere do Nascimento, had planned to surprise her fiancé Udirley Damasceno, who was waiting at the altar when the chopper crash landed a mile from the reception venue in a rural area on the outskirts of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
While it's generally unfair to speculate, the R44 piston machine was in what clearly appears to be IMC. Watch what happens to the aggressive bank around the 1:42 min mark before control is lost. It was careless flying.
All occupants (including a pregnant photopgrapher, Nayla Cristina Neves) were killed.

What type of helicopter do you fly?
My dad was a plane and helicopter pilot. He taught me aircraft safety starting at the age of five. There’s no way that pilot should have taken off in zero visibility like that.
Certainly shouldn’t have tried to land in it, reminds me of Kobe’s crash, probably couldn’t fly IFR either

IFR flight is well within the capabilities of that aircraft.
Complacency let's us forget the fallible human component.

But there was, Gillian. As soon as we start flying lessons - no matter if its on rotary aircraft or fixed wing, we are warned against the dangers of "get there".This flight was in zero visibility. The helicopter didn't have a full range of Instrument Flight Rules equipment. The pilot had a long time in which to abort. There is something called Radar Vectoring, when he could have called in and asked for his flight to be monitored on radar and guided. There would have been no crash. Why he didnt do that, we'll never know. Also, for the passengers, that would have been an uncomfortable flight. Nothing makes people airsick more than opaque conditions outside. Still, it's done now, and may God bless them.

Imagine the fear. The fear of going down, the knowing of this is the last moment until you have to say goodbye. A few seconds to think about life, and then boom. It's all gone.
I've had a similar experience when I crashed my car while speeding, I thought I was going to die there was no time to think besides becoming at peace with the fact that you're going to die.

He absolutely did not have to do it. Every hired pilot is required BY LAW to be aware of the inclement weather pertaining to the area of flight. It's tough to tell with the video quality, but it appears this pilot went imc (inadvertent meteorological conditions) which is almost always fatal. He also was flying an aircraft equipped with instruments to fly with that kind of visibility but was not using them or possibly wasn't rated. This is the pilot's fault.

This happened in Brazil in 2016. The four of them died in the accident. The guy beside the bride is her brother and they were literally on the way to the altar. The groom and the 300 guests were waiting at the venue and were told about the accident when the bride failed to show. The photographer who is in the front seat beside the pilot was 6 months pregnant and the baby also died. Incredibly sad.

I am a helicopter pilot, I do not think this is a fake. This is a Robison R-44, and it is NOT qualified (certified) to fly in fog or clouds or no visibility, it is classified as VFR or Visual Flying Rules, NOT IFR or Instrument Flying Rules. The pilot should have turned back away from the decreasing visibly. Or as the clouds approached, worst case land immediately, it is a helicopter, it can land in a field or parking lot or side of the road, it only needs a space of about 40 feet by 40 feet. The top center gauge is showing the attitude of the helicopter versus the horizon, the Blue is Sky the black is ground, as you can see the loss of visibility causes a disorientation for the pilot and then the helicopter, as noted in the gauge, right before the warning horn, this horn is telling a pilot that the rotor is loosing speed (which produces lift), too late to react with no visibility. Actually, as this was in Brazil, our FAA rules don't apply. R44s are often used for instrument training, so if thus equipped, would only need a qualified pilot to be safe. All avionics beyond rudimentary are a la carte from Robinson, so one would have to get a good package. But in this case, the pilot wasn't qualified, nor did he have good judgement.

no, their eyes were closing before the pilot started banking like a madman (you can hear the horn go off). They were in normal flight for much of the video, but they were in the clouds and mountains, so thus the eye shuttering. Terrified they were going to die perhaps as they knew they were in incompetent hands about half way through the flight. the pilot looked very green and concerned as well. Its "equipped". They have the training stuff in em but actually going IMC is insanity so unstable. Not to mention as you said they arent actually qualified to do so.

They were not rich people. She paid like about 1800 R$ for this flight which costs about 500 U$ I also was quick to judge them. But I do speak portuguese and i researched a little bit more. So I heard interviews with their family members and friends. She wanted to do a surprise for her future husband. Besides it was her dream to fly. She had never ever flown, not even inside an airplane. Her brother also dreamed about flying one day, He was taking her to the altar. as she didn't have a father. That's why he flew together with her. That was a very sad story. the Pilot knew that this Helicopter has not enough instruments for flying blindly inside fog. but probably he thought the fog was going to be crossed quickly. He also much likely didn't want to return because it would ruin the surprise and make everybody wait. and kind of ruin the day. He got nervous and probably didn't pay much attention to the rotation of the wings. and everybody got killed! Before the flight she had many pictures of her shot by the photographer (who also died on the crash and was pregnant) BUT THE CAMERA WAS STOLEN BY PEOPLE ON THE CRASH SITE. all that this family is asking, is to get the SD card back.

I'd see this kid in the hallway and never realized how great he would be until after I graduated in 94 and one day I saw him on the tv. My mouth dropped.Was always happy he became so successful and reached his goals. Shit , I never went to any games of any sports at LM. I remember he took Brandy to the prom. I graduated 2 years before him. I wasn't his friend. I just saw him all the time. He used to play ball at the shack (Ardmore) that's what we called it. RIP KB #33 LM

A truly upsetting piece of footage. Have seen another vid of this, that shows the sky to be clear, upon takeoff, they must have flown into a fog bank later. The passengers appear to mask their apprehension, but deep down inside, they seem to know what's coming. Very Tragic.

If you ever wanted to read a great book about fling helicopters: Chickenhawk. It is about a Vietnam vet who flew combat missions. This man flew into combat, was shot at, flew underneath the blades of other helicopters. He became a great pilot and daring. Scariest moment for him? FOG. He left a valley area covered in fog all the way up to the mountain peaks, but he could not see shit and felt any second he was going to crash into the mountainside. Great book and a lesson to learn.

It was gut wrenchingly unbearable and like you said, they were clinging to one another the whole way trying to make the best of an extremely unnerving situation which, as you said, the brother mostly failed to do. I am nervous enough of helicopters as it is and there is absolute NO WAY you would have got me on to it in that visibility.... ugh, even 6 years later this gives me the heebie jeebies and makes me extremely sad for all if them and their families and friends..

@MYSTERIOUS ONE I was just thinking this morning about how damn little I know about the world. There are places and cultures I will probably never have a chance to visit. I know people who upon retirement, instead of travelling the world, go buy a huge satellite system and sit in their living rooms watching the world.
Those poor passengers. You could see the fear and apprehension on the brides face and on her brothers right before the crash. Tragic loss of life.

Right before they go down. You can see a brief glimpse of the bride's face if you slow it down. Her face looks very very strange. It doesn't even look like the same person. At that moment she knew she was going to die. It's very sad to watch someone's final moments. Hard to watch!!

It looked kind of foggy outside. It reminded me of the Kobe Bryant bad weather flying conditions.
We just had a sight seeing helicopter crash into the Hudson River here in NYC. I believe three of the people died. It was caught on camera. The bad part is...They autorotated down fairly smoothly into the water. However they ended up drowning because they couldn't get their seat belts off under water. They should instruct people more before they go up. Practice unlaching the belts several times with their eyes open....then a few times with their eyes closed that way they'd know what to do in an emergency. These poor people needlessly died.
Ugh. That sucks. That's one of my ultimate fears in an aircraft: being stuck inside while sinking. That's my second biggest flying fear: the first is burning. Either way, I want to get the Hell off of an aircraft ASAP.
Hello for all. This video is not fake, she is a bride going to her wedding with her brother beside. This happened in Brazil with a R44 Helicopter. It was very sad.

The man was terrified of flying, and didn't want to do it. What a horrific way to die by one of your nightmares.
He actually took off with good visibility and got himself into IMC (this video doesn't show this). He should've just turned back at the moment but external pressures got the best of him and costed everybody their lives. This was 100% pilot error and had nothing to do with the aircraft. Though the aircraft is not rated to fly IFR, he had the instruments available to get him back to his starting point safely.

Jesus Christ Obviously, that wasn't good enough. It was his decision to fly into the fog. It was HIS poor judgement/incompetence, not bad luck or fate.

@mandellorian I've never seen this supposed "entire video", and there's no excuse for that regardless. He kept flying in zero visibility and had no intention of landing or escaping the situation.
He was a Kamikaze pilot in his previous life and the flash backs kicked in.

They probably had doubts before they took off but really wanted to impress everyone. What a tragedy for everyone.
Weddings have a way of making people do dumb things. They're expensive and stressful and tightly scheduled, and people will throw away safety to meet these demands. In this case, it cost 4 people their lives and the wedding was ruined anyway.

I'm reading the story on line. The bride wanted to surprise her groom who was waiting for her at the altar. The husband to be was left waiting at the wedding venue unaware of what she was planning to do, or of the fatal air crash.💔

That pilot looked nervous the whole time!!!! Her brother felt something was wrong you could see it in his eyes...but I swear I think they were both praying at one time...thank God for that...may they rest in peace

Its not the fact he couldn’t handle it, the issue was that the helicopter he was flying was NOT qualified for flying in those conditions
It’s also rather incompetent to even want to arrive in a helicopter for your wedding - basically it reflects utter incompetency
It bothered me when the phone fell and hit the ground within seconds. That’s how low they were already so pretty much they crashed right after fkkk.

There was less than 10 seconds from the time someone first panicked to the time they were all dead (or fatally wounded).. the terror must have been unimaginable
