Come along as we check out the best of the best!

You can see both angler's unique fishing styles come out in the gear they choose as well as in the information they pour out about the pairings.

    I’m 28 and was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 14, i don’t have the energy to fish as much as I’d like but when I do i want to be comfortable and that means I need light gear, trust me I’d love to be comfortable fishing $100 combos but that ain’t happening so I have to save up a little longer and buy higher end gear, it sucks but I’m glad you guys are hear to point me in the right direction when I’m looking to spend that kind of money on a rod

      That’s a great combo! I have one and a couple other more expensive rods. The Dobyn’s and SLX is still my favorite set up due to the versatility. Mine is the 7’3 med-heavy and I use it for anything because it works for anything. The only downside is they are a nano gram heavier than the super expensive rods.

    Something you said at the end really struck home. It was about the guy who had shoulder surgery and weight is extremely important. I had my shoulder rebuilt after a total rotator cuff tear. The lighter the better for me because hours of casting is tough. I have a Loomis rod paired with a Vanford. Best decision I made and money well spent

    Matt and Tim, thanks for another great video of high end gear. I can hear the excitement in your voices when you get to this level. But what i took from this video was based on what i've learned from watching your videos and the gear i have is what rod and reel i'd use for the technique you were describing. This based on your videos about the 4 to 6 rods we need to do everything.

    Bought an Exsence this winter based off your guys suggestion, finest piece of fishing equipment I own… paired with a 6’10 ML Expride it’s an incredibly light and sensitive combo that is so fun to fish. Most importantly it had a price point that was high but didn’t feel too ridiculous for a weekend angler. Can’t wait for true pre spawn to start up here, tight lines guys

  • @BigBass-xf5yi

    I have st croix legend x AND extreme. Imho, the expride B is better then both. Many years ago, i was a big st croix enthusiast, bit GLoomis surpassed them in many ways so i rode the glx crotch till the imx came out. When it comes to loomis, i never looked back. The NRX plus is such an impressive line for American rods. The absolute standard. I still fish with my NRX, along with a few conquests, BUT once you go JDM, its almost impossible to return, lol.
    Between the JDM steez rods, Evergreen,megabass and poison ultima, im broke. But a good fun broke. You literally cant beat the JDM rod and reel offerings. Sensitivity, lightness and performance are topps. Reels as well. Only drawback is the wait time for your orders since most transactions are intercontinental. Well worth it tho.

  • @manifestgtr
    @manifestgtr 5 месяцев назад

    My favorite high end rods are the shimano conquest and the st croix legend x. The conquest speaks for itself…the 844c is the greatest all around jig rod I’ve ever thrown with no close second. As far as the legend x goes, even though it’s a bit expensive, I still see it as a value. It’s got the same torzite guides as the conquest, incredibly high end, soft cork for the grips, great tapers, soft tips, great sensitivity and superb balance (especially for a st croix). I’ve had two NRXs in my regular rotation dethroned by legend x models because they were more accurate and more comfortable over the course of a long day. That’s how good they are.
    For high end reels it’s aldebaran and metanium. If I could get away with only aldebarans, that’s probably all I would throw. But for the stuff you need to chuck out there a ways, the metanium is the way to go…even if all you can afford is a 13 metanium (which can be had for like $150 used on eBay), those are INCREDIBLE reels. Lightweight, magnesium framed rocket launchers for $150…the math does itself.

    I appreciate the nuanced thinking applied to this episode. I have suggestion for a future gear related episode that is similar, but different: The ten rod quiver. Could a ten rod quiver cover everything (or most everything) from swimbait to BFS, and do it at a reasonably high level if it was chosen carefully? Not enough? Make it a 12 rod quiver. Illuminate the pros and cons of such an endeavor. Would it be possible to do at a mid-tier level as well as a more expensive level?

    Solid list. Only thing I would add is instead of the Tranx, consider ordering a Shimano Scorpion MD or Antares DC MD from Japan. The scorpion MD is very similar to the tranx except it is smoother, casts farther and usually cheaper. The Antares DC MD is the best big bait reel on the planet. I assume you guys only included stuff that readily available in the US which is 100% understandable, just putting it out there for viewers since there aren't a ton of truly great options for swimbait reels in the US IMO.

    Anyone arguing you can have same sensitivity with an ugly stick to a higher end rods, just hasn't used any high end rods! I used to have nothing but ugly sticks. About 2-3 years ago I started getting better gear. I have a 6' 10' med-heavy bait caster with a 150mgl & a Expride B 7' light spinning rod with a 2500 vanford now. The sensitivity is in another universe! Not even comparable!

    • @DxWhoopingCrane

      Not to mention that lower end combos feel as heavy as a cinderblock once you've fished with high end stuff. I have nothing against budget gear, I think its great for beginners and still use some budget pieces, but the high end stuff is so much better.

    Tim, Matt, someone in the comment section, I need help with a very specific rod. I need the perfect finesse jerkbait rod. Most of my fisheries are rivers with 1-3 inch baitfish and the local trout and smallmouth lose their mind over 50-80 size jerkbaits certain times of the year, but keeping most of those fish hooked can be difficult. If I switch to little inline spinners I can go to a soft rod and then it's almost a non issue, but if I throw a jerkbait on that rod I lose the action because the rod is too soft.
    I prefer spinning tackle but if the perfect rod is bfs that's no problem either. My budget is $500, though for bfs that's the whole combo and for spinning it can just be the rod as I have extra reels

    I'm surprised you didn't include the 2024 Metanium DC in this real line up. Or is it possibly just too new and you haven't had enough time to evaluate it and chose what rod(s) to pair it up with?
    As a second question, have you ever tried the Kistler Helium or ZBone rods? The blanks are great and some people compare them to a NRX (not newer the NRX+) for weight and sensitivity, and I myself believe that they are definitely in the same class. Kistler could put a little more quality into the real seats (specifically the luck nut) but they are very enjoyable rods to fish with overall.

    I got a question for you guys is a GLx spinning rod wort 100.00 more than an expride for drop shot ?

    You guys are amazing!. Once again many thanks for what you do but honestly, it's 10am here, and most if not all (GLX 843C MBR all sizes and weights) are gone. Now what? Wait until next year?
    And what do I do with my 3 year old GLX, is it still a good rod or are these new rod & reel combos phenomenally improved? Pray tell oh wise ones.

      Your GLX rods are clearly POS now that the new ones are out. So I’ll do you a favor and take them off your hands for a reasonable price 😊

    I bought that Loomis IMX pro bladed jig rod last Christmas sale based on your recommendation and I absolutely love the rod. I had always used glass or composite rods for the chatterbait but I really like the feel of this graphite rod. I throw a mini max a lot in a half ounce size and I was wondering if this is too much rod for the mini max? I have had a problem with snaps opening on the mini max back when I was using a composite rod. Will the Loomis be too heavy for the mini max?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  5 месяцев назад +3

      We've caught a bunch on it with this rod but you could certainly go lighter. Oddly enough, the Shimano Expride 7'2" Medium Light is a pretty awesome mini max rod.

    There are too many keyboard warriors who don't understand the benefits outside of price. They never even went as close as to holding one. As someone who had a work injury since 2012 and suffers from tendinitis almost daily, the high end rods and reels help with not having to ice your arm after 5 hours of fishing.

      I use a Surf rod now a lot times instead of a fast/medium action bass rod. The long buttend on the surf rod helps keep the load off single side of your body. I had surgery on my tend in my thumb, my arthritis acts up on my hand.

  • @dangkhang9479
    @dangkhang9479 5 месяцев назад

    Fellas, just to let y’all know you do NOT need an NRX for weightless wacky. I have one and is not amaze. If you are not touching bottom or keeping contact with your lure, NRX will not wow you.
