Haha, well, I can tell you that there were a few things wrong! 1- Too much frosting. Add a tablespoon or two at a time at most. You want it like play dough consistency. 2- don't freeze them! They should be barely cold or room temp 3- never add liquid fat to the candy melts. Use shortening if you need to. The consistency should be like paint. It should run off. 4- let your chocolate cool to almost room temp also before dipping to minimize cracking. 5- your dipping should be quick! Dunk in until the chocolate touches the "anchor" at the stick and fully envelops it, then take it out. Otherwise they can fall off the stick. 6- mix your candy color powder with a clear alcohol solution. Not too much. I use vodka. Then paint it on! Try again and good luck!
Well, these are good tips- but I do freeze mine to let them get hardened faster, and the fridge for me just doesn’t do it I let them thaw out before I start dipping so it doesn’t crack from the hot heat hitting the cold
My question is once the chocolate of choice is melted it does not harden? Today is the first time I made cake pops and I was concerned melted chocolate would harden and could not coat pops. Most videos use candy melts, but I thought using real chocolate chips would be better. Well yes and no. They are dipped once and transparent on the red velvet pops. But I did not decorations for them.
You are my spirit guide! I did a trial run of cake pops for my grandson’s 2nd birthday, and enlisted the “help” of four neighbor kids, aged 4 to 13. 🙈 What was I thinking? Really??? I did get to see the many disasters waiting to happen. I’m making the birthday pops today...by myself...There will still be time to go and buy a cake. Thank you for showing your disaster. It was both funny and honest, which I truly appreciate!
😂Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story. Can relate! Good luck with your pops today... we have had some helpful comments here for our next attempt that hopefully will help you too! Happy birthday to your Grandson... enjoy this special day!
You messed up by adding an entire bucket, you barely even need half, also to make the cake a much more crumby consistency but you also can use your hand if you want
The reason why it cracks is because the cake pops are really cold and you are dipping them in hot chocolate, also that is way to much icing, you should only use about a TBS or so
I have a few tips: for cracks- fill them in with excess melted chocolate using a toothpick. for keeping them from thawing, i suggest taking out a few at a time, dipping them, set them aside, and then take more out and repeat. i hope this helped!!
They won’t crack if you don’t freeze them. Don’t use so much frosting with the cake mix to keep them from falling apart when you dip them. The cake will hold together better if you use a ganache instead of frosting. And when you dip the sticks in your coating, make sure you’re using a good amount. And smooth the bit that sticks to the stick over the bottom of the cake pop. Holds it in place a little better. Like an anchor. Also, when you thinned out your chocolate, it looked like you were using olive oil. If you’re going to use an oil, use vegetable oil. Shortening is best though. Or coconut oil for a healthier touch.
Hi, next time try these tips... Crumbs cake into fiber crumbs! Only use about 2-3 teaspoons of frosting! You want it smooth! When putting them in the freezer/in garage to let the chocolate on the sticks get hard! You have to let the cake come back to room temp b4 adding chocolate! The cold cake pop and hot chocolate makes the chocolate crack! And when using thy powder you have to mix it with a liquid and paint it on!😉😉 just a few helpful tips! 🥰😉
Yes girl I attempted to make these keyword attempted back in May everything went smoothly just like yours until I got ready to dip the balls in the chocolate I did use gardelli white chocolate added the oil as well but when I dipped my balls on the stick in the chocolate most of them fell off of the stick in the chocolate or when I went to put them in my makeshift cake pop stand AKA a styrofoam block they fell off the stick I hope by watching this I can learn something and be successful because I want to make these again thanks for the video and know you're not alone
Rachel Alcorn If you happen to have a winco in your city I recommend using the guitarrd chocolate from there... It’s waaaay easier than the chocolate used in the video.
@@julianahernandez3571 thanks they actually came out REALLY WELL!!! would post a pic but cant!!! I actually use sanding sugar try it sometime it comes out so beautiful!!!!
Thank you! I'm glad you had more success your second time around. I think it takes a very talented patient person to make these beautiful. Someday I'll give them another try with the new tips people have been sharing.
My daughter and I used a silicone cake pop mold we found at Goodwill. No way the squooshed cake is appetizing for me. your tip, refrigerating the cake on the stick with candy on the stick, definately is a good idea
The cracking was because you put them in the freezer! You want them cool not frozen. The temperature of the chocolate and cake pops need to be closer not drastically different
Enjoyed your tutorial!! One thing I have learned And has worked is prepping the dough a night before and refrigerate...while melting or right before melting the chocolate or candy melt make the cake pop balls then use the candy melt to stick in the pop sticks!
I know they are so tricky! Did you bake the cake according to the box instructions first, and then crumble and mix with icing? This should make the batter very moldable. We made the balls, added the sticks and then found freezing them for a bit after helped them keep their shape. Good luck!

Wowzers... well this is helpful! Thank you!
Also don't add oil to ur cake mix cuz it will drip to the stick

Yeaaaa, we're NOT the only ones! Made cake pops this weekend for the first time with two of my grandsons, we......might......try them again 😱
They are more tricky than they look!
You messed up by adding an entire bucket, you barely even need half, also to make the cake a much more crumby consistency but you also can use your hand if you want
Thanks for the tips!
Anyone know what to do if you add the oil in the cake mix?
Nope do not dip cold pops in warm chocolate that’s why it cracks temp change shock!
The reason why it cracks is because the cake pops are really cold and you are dipping them in hot chocolate, also that is way to much icing, you should only use about a TBS or so
Oh good to know thanks for the great tips!
That was hilarious....I have 2 cake pops down, 89 to go!!! Wish me luck!
Good luck!!

These tips are all so helpful thank you! and I didn't even think of the type of oil I was using. I'm definitely trying coconut oil next time.

LOL I can see why it failed too many cooks in the kitchen!!😀
LOL! So true.
Nice tutorial! You also shows how fun it can be cooking with family 😁
Thanks for checking it out! Definitely lots of laughs :)
my cake mix is really runny. and will not hold its shape. i do not know what i should do.

Use about a TBS or 2 of icing only, not anymore that that, start with 1 TBS and see if it holds its shape, then add a bit more tsp at a time
Chocolate was lumpy
I added to much frosting!!! What should I do?
From other suggestions here, maybe add more cake? Sounds like a whole bucket of frosting was too much 🙈
Tips!
First of all, trim of all the edges, so that you don’t get crispy hard bits in your cake pops.
Also, only use
Ahhh that's so helpful. Thank you!
