Oscars should have a rule: Recipients are only allowed to talk about political or moral messages and themes pertaining TO the work they are accepting an award for. Nobody who's a fan of the fricking Joker movie wants to hear Joaquin Phoenix blab incoherently about mother nature for 4 minutes. We want to hear about mental health and young men in America being radicalized and lied to every day, the need to promote men displaying emotions. Maybe mention that if you see that guy clearly spiraling be there for him instead of laughing, berating, or ghosting them. Stay on theme! Just a thought..
Roxy absolutely killed it as the host at Flappers. She got the single biggest laugh of the night from me after Kristian was yelling in German. Absolute pro!
Attorney Roxy Striar drilling down on witness Kristian Harloff today in court... But, I really enjoyed the talk, though. Neither of you guys were being asses to each other, it was exploring a lot of stuff. What should the Oscars do, why or why are the things happening that they are, what should go on streaming, what should be theatrical, all of it. Frankly, you guys have fun and great conversations all the time, but this was one of the best, I think.
Commenting a little late on this. Kristian, I would actually argue that a lot of what you want out of the Oscars is kinda what last years show was. Well paced show, no political stuff, Kimmel hosting and cracking good jokes, the show was about the movies, and the awards were great with some good underdog stories like Brendan Fraser and Ke Huy Quan both winning. Viewership was still low but higher than 2021 and 2022’s shows. I do think this could be a push in the right direction. But you’re right, it does all depend on the movies and what people have seen
Simple answer… no one working pay check to pay check has money to go see them. I am one of those people. I use to go to almost every big movie. Usually with AMC a-list but not anymore. Haven’t seen a movie in theaters since Evil Dead rise.
Man, Kristian really struggled to answer Roxy. One of the rare times Roxy and I were on the same page when asking Harloff about what makes a streaming movie and a theatrical movie. Telling someone “Oh, that’ should have been a streaming movie”, to me is the equivalent of “straight to video”. It does come across as referring to “quality”. And for the longest time, most Netflix movies were crap. Lots of them still are. You have to really find a good one. You can also define it now as “is it worth going to theaters for “, because of rising costs and people’s time and money. Changing viewing habits, etc. It’s still worth to go, but people are twice as choosy now than before. And yes, there’s is waaaay too much coming out each week as a result of streaming movies.
Roxy's input is on point and she keeps everyone on their toes. She comes off as dense sometimes but she really grew as a host. Funny, insightful, and professional.
There’s no reason actors like Leo need to be paid 40 MILLION dollars to star in a movie. No man needs 40 MILLION DOLLARS. Way too much money being spend.
I feel like with the way things are going this will start to adjust in the next few years to reflect the diminishing draw of actors. After a couple years of big stars not delivering returns on their movies they will lose some of their leverage. Hopefully this will help studios start delivering more realistically budgeted movies.
it's not just Hollywood, you got young NBA basketballers getting paid $50m a season to dribble a ball and throw it through a metal hoop while outside the stadium you have homeless people begging for spare change. Humanity lost its way a very long time ago, it isn't anything new
Sorry but Leo actually does deserve that money. He's one of the best, if not the best actor of his generation. He's one of only a couple of actors who can for the most part sell a movie on his own. The reason Killers of the Flower flopped was because it was too niche a story to tell on that budget. A lesser actor than Leo wouldn't have made a cent more than $30 million worldwide for Killers.
I did really enjoy the Oscars last year. Seeing Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh win was really great. I thought it was a much better ceremony than the last several years
Price gouging by every business in the country, coupled with constant hate surrounding every movie has ruined the experience and ability for most Americans
One of the big reasons why Disney animated films cost so much is due to being done in the US. Most of these other animation companies have gone overseas. I hope Disney finds ways to bring the animation budgets down, while also keeping jobs here in Burbank. Great show , keep up the great work!!
As a big animation fan I do wanna go into the animation industry and I’m in art school I only care for the Oscar’s for the best animated category all animation is made in Burbank
Like Winston said, the #1 reason is streaming. Years ago I knew I had to go see movies OR wait almost a year. Now that that wait is just a couple of months, I dont feel as motivated to go
When you watch 100 movies a year like most critics and hardcore film fans, you start to crave anything different and unorthodox. THAT’S why May December is getting so much love, because it’s different from all the same shit we watch multiple times a year.
The Academy Awards as a show isn't great, but I don't want to see a pivot towards more popular movies getting nominated just for the sake of it. If a popular movie is great, it should be nominated! And a lot of times they are! Look at Top Gun and Avatar last year. Oppenheimer and Barbie this year.
I don't think films should go right to streaming, so much content getting lost in the never ending cluster of content. We need movies like Air in the theaters, we need all types of films in theaters.
Totally irrelevant but totally true, last night I had a dream where me and Roxy got on a small boat and sailed to the Isle of Man from England and Kristian waved us off. I need to stop drinking and falling asleep to this show. That said it was a great dream
I get what you're saying about the type of "artsy" movies that get nominated, but I think there needs to be a balance. I like it when movies go outside the box and don't adhere to traditional structure and formula, but that doesn't mean I like every movie like that, and I know a lot of people don't like that at all. On the flip side, I love movies like Top Gun Maverick or Way of Water, and mid-budget hits like Air, and the great movies like that should be nominated, but there has to be a balance. "Artsy" movie deserve a spot at the table. It's not 1990 anymore, we should have a healthy mix of quality blockbusters, mid-budget, and indies.
It hurts my heart that romantic comedies aren’t really experienced on the big screen anymore with a room full of people who enjoy the genre as well. But I’m fully aware that Netflix has become the go to Rom Com streaming service. There are a bunch of movies on there that I thoroughly enjoyed that would never get put on the big screen these days like “ always be my maybe” “ love guaranteed” “when we first met” So it’s a bitter sweet situation. Such is life lol
Christian is right. I grew up going to the theatre with my group of 4-6 friends every weekend. I'm now 28 and I saw 3 movies in theatres in 2024 - AntMan, Oppenheimer and Barbie.
I think classifying things as "streaming movies" and "theater movies" highlights a few problems. One is what Scorsese has been saying for years, which is that there's no space in theaters for small movies anymore. Every week there's huge blockbusters taking up half the multiplex and the rest are blockbusters from last month finishing their run. There's way less support for indies, and studios only promote them if they catch fire like EEAAO for example. The second issue highlighted is that it is such a risk just going to the movies because of how much money it costs to do so, and how bad the experience can be in the theater itself. No Way Home was by far the worst cinema experience I've ever had. And we spent about $15 per ticket, had gone out to dinner before, and got some snacks. Just to have the experience ruined by a theater full of loud kids who couldn't put tiktok away for 2 hours. In my opinion, there are too many movies coming out; too much "content", loathe as I am to refer to films as content. Ditto for TV. And the quality is declining rapidly because the minimum viable product is getting easier and easier to get to, thanks to things like Disney's volume. These corporations are shitting out shit because there's a huge shareholder-shaped shadow hanging over all of production now. It stinks. It's an issue with videogames and even toys now too, with Hasbro dropping 20% of its workforce. There's too much outside money pushing these industries away from being able to make actual art. It's a very big problem. I really liked Patrick H Willems' video about Who Killed Cinema, which sums up a lot of the issues. Anyway, enjoyed your convo. Get Roxy a good date, for fuck's sake.
Look I love the movies but paying $16 bucks for a bucket of popcorn and $10 for a soda and not being able to afford a candy purchase without feeling gutted is a huge issue. You don’t know that you got your money’s worth. You’re gambling on a movie every time you go. Take a person with you and you’re dropping the same amount of cash on a triple A video game, which could be weeks to months of entertainment. I think movie theaters pushed and pushed to the breaking point on prices till they convinced people not to attend. I say this because it needs to be said. We are not the problem. They are. They need to figure something out. Something that doesn’t make a ceo rich but pays his bills and is beneficial for every man and woman working and attending a theater. It’s been a few years, has everyone forgotten what dirty things a former ceo of AMC did? It was some really rotten stuff. Bottom line: Lower prices. Keep them low till love for theaters becomes a casual everyday thing for everyone again.
Cinemas have been in decline for years, because of streaming, binge watching and poor quality of movies being released, ETC. I went to see Napoleon and it was half full on the first weekend of release.
Unfortunately Roxy the way dating is in our generation.. he probably started talking to someone else, that’s what I noticed is usually the case when people ghost
So why $300 Million made some audiences not go see it? I’m pretty sure that C-19 was the cause of movies failing to see them in Movie Theaters since there are still some people staying home a lot.
There's so much content nowadays that i can't even keep up with. My list of streaming shows and movies is so long i can't ever justify going to the movies unless its something i'm SUPER excited about, but honestly, i havn't been that excited about anything coming out recently. Nothing i can't just wait for to be on my streaming eventually.
one creator to another. yes get the new computer but get some external ssd drives to save your recordings to, so you don't bog down your system. also allows for you to archive them without losing anything. I would put those external ssd drives on the wish list
My take: Harloff's rundown of the 1989 Best Picture noms shows the spread of movies. They didn't all drop in the last 6wks of the year like they do now. Cost is another problem. Going to the movies is the cost of my gas bill. When food prices, etc are also high, movies become more of a luxury. 3rd is the landscape of movie info. I used to learn about what movies were coming out from AMC/Collider Movie Talk, Popcorn Talk, Schmoes Know, etc but that RUclips landscape has changed. I couldn't tell you what's in the theaters right now. Horror movie genre continues to make money because of the theater experience, mid/low budgets and encouraged originality. Studios have to stop trying to algorithm a hit movie and just swing! Give me something that I didn't know I wanted!
Unless there's really a movie people really wanna see on the big screen, they are not gonna spend the money and just wait til the film arrives on streaming. People are picking and choosing these days.
The point of the Oscars is to promote movies that are liked by the Academy and aren’t necessarily giant box office hits already. If you nominate just big hits already, the viewership might go up but the whole point of the Oscars is lost and you’ll be promoting films that are already wildly successful.
That is completely not the point of the Oscars... its to honor the absolute best in film regardless of ticket sales or popularity and not to cater to a select group of people who only want to acknowledge their own elitist mentality
@@chrismalik1579If the true point of the Oscars was to honor the best, they would have different methodology…. As it stands, it is a political or popularity contest… only not at the box office, but inside the industry and among Oscar voters.
@@chrismalik1579 yeah, there's what the Oscars claim to be or what we want them to be... But then there's what they actually are. The Oscars are trying to have it all ways, which makes them dishonest and, ultimately, meaningless.
Yeah roxy dont fell bad I stop dating for 10 years because I couldn't be bothered with it all the bad dates/cheaters. Now I'm in a 2 year relationship with the most amazing man. Stay strong roxy sending all the positive vibes ❤
The #1 reason is absolutely streaming. Before streaming was normal, you had to absolutely see a film unless you wanted to wait for the blu ray release 6 mo/ 1 year later. I used to see on average around 30 films a year and that's dropped down to maybe 10.. 12 so far this year. The availability has killed any profit studios hope to make for the most part.
Here's why movies are failing at the theater. 1. Nobody wants to spend the money when it's gonna be on streaming. It's getting too expensive. And 2. The studios seem to be putting out some bad movies.
Superhero movies are failing because of bad storytelling. Superman in general. Man of Steel making over 600 million dollars is a lot of money but not for Superman. Superman movies haven't done as great because of how the character is approached. If Superman is done right, then those movies would be more successful. Batman Vs Superman making over 800 million is a lot yes, but not for a movie about Superman and Batman. The writing needs to be better if you want the general audiences invested.
Love the Air love form Kristian but idk if youve seen it or not but i thought blackberry was much better than air in doing the whole biopic formula. Its got outstanding performance, great music, its hilarious and overall while i really loved air... blackberry was infinity cheaper but also infinitely superior in my opinion. I highly suggest giving it a watch if you havent, loved the show today though!
Blame the people. So many people i know roll their eyes at the thought of theaters. A lot of average people just dont care about the cinematic experience anymore. I do. But lots of basic people out there that still watch movies in cropped fullscreen on tiny screens with shitty speakers. And they dont care. Society is the problem, not movies.
The reason why no one is talking about American Fiction is because it's not available yet for the "casual/common" viewer. I saw the trailer and have been dying to see it, but I have to wait until it gets on Prime, or it comes to a theatre near me. I am sad now.
Movies that should not be in theaters would be Air, or lesser known superhero names unless they build an audience like Deadpool. I would even argue that Movies like Shazam or Black Adam shouldn't be in theaters. They are lesser known characters and I think they would do better on streaming.
The Hinge dude might have bailed because some folks refuse to date people in the public eye with as many followers as Roxie has. Definitely NOT saying it’s right btw.
When a piece of garbage like Freddys 5 Nights (or whatever that thing was called) outgrosses terrific films from some of our greatest filmmakers, its the brain dead audience, not the films
I think Superman: Legacy might be like Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is the 16th film in the MCU, but imagine if it was the 1st though it stays the way it is, you have these wider universe connections and references, and Peter talks to Tony and you have Cap on school videos, but it is very much still a Spider-Man movie, the narrative and arcs and characters, in that case....
Loved the conversation today. I'm probably in the minority bur I love and went to see Air, Barbie, Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, the Jennifer Lawrence movie all in the theaters. I'm thankful for the movie experience cause I always mean to rewatch this stuff on streaming services but I watch a lit of sports and never get to them. So I always try to go to the theater to see these movies.
This is a big topic your covering Kristian about how movies make money, what should be in theatres, etc. You really should have had an expert on like Dan Murrell because I somewhat agree with Roxy, you were making it confusing.
I'm still gonna push back on the idea that people's tastes in what they want to see in theaters have changed. I don't think that's it. The main problem is simply the absurdly short release windows between theatrical and home releases that are conditioning people to stay home, the serious lack of marketing of some movies even if they have big stars in them, and the bloated budgets that make it harder for movies to be box office hits. The quality of some movies has also dipped a bit. If the studios fix these things, more people will go back to theaters despite the ridiculous ticket prices. Besides, a lot of the types of movies that have underperformed at the box office (like No Hard Feelings and Air for example) still did so in pre-streaming times. And in the case of No Hard Feelings, many movies found their audience after they were out of theaters, but that doesn't mean they're not worthy of the big screen. Every movie is still better off being released theatrically because at least if it bombs, it'll still make SOME money whereas if it's released only on streaming, it's literally not making any money AT ALL. At least that's how I see it. At the end of the way, making movies is a gamble. It's not always easy to tell what will be a hit or not.
@@Aussie27Legend I still watch stuff that’s aimed at kids nicktoons Cartoon Network adult swim and Disney Dreamworks illumintion and animation is my passion
I believe the fall of ratings is more a TV/long form media thing than the movies. Its hard to watch a 3-4hr show on a sunday night. Especially when theres no pull for the show. The results are on social media right after they happen.
Did anyone else initially think the glasses on the saved by the bell locker box set looked like bullet holes? I was like damn, they are getting too real with this one.
I think the question personally should be reworded. Instead of why are so many movies failing, it should be why are certain movies failing to make money? The reason I mention this is because IMAX came out the other day and reported it had its 3rd biggest year of profit ever. That's pretty good to see and shows that movies are doing well still. Obviously, right now CERTAIN films aren't doing as well and that can come down to many things: - Marketing is a big one and as a masters graduate in digital marketing I can tell you right now that lots of films have no broken through and figured out what it means to market a film well and reach the audience it's intended for whether it's through digital means or practical ones like how a film like Barbie did it - Economics is also a big thing too, movie theaters NEED to back off the price gauging on tickets and concessions. This is a major reason why I think animated movies and films made for kids aren't doing as well because those films attract family audiences and bringing an entire family to just one movie is MAD expensive now. - From an actual movie perspective, Kristian you've mentioned it many times but SO MANY movies are being overbudgeted now to the point where they don't know how they got big or where they were meant to become big from. Indiana Jones was never a big and huge budgeted franchise. The newest film faltered because they though the name of the franchise was bigger than it actually was. The success of the original films came a lot from the characters and the small scale action and practicality of it all when filming. -Streaming services have definitely put a big damper in the world of film and television and I think the way streaming works now needs to change. Especially when we are talking about the fact that movie theaters now have a 45 day window for a film to stay in theaters. A month and a half is not that long and so people get this tendency to wait for certain films to come out on streaming. Look at Disney with that matter. - Another big reason for some downfalls is the idea around studio interference and studios making bad decisions when making films that come out for people to see. Looking at Marvel, it's been obvious the company has been run like a corporation as opposed to an entertainment business. For a time with Chapek at the wing, it was run by execs who didn't care for the normal processes of making films and television but to only see where the dollar amounts were at and just look at analytics. Video games are having this problem too since in the last however many years, so many big game companies and franchises have just gone to becoming more like Fortnite, live service and filled with microtransactions. I hope this all makes sense and people see it!👍
I dont see the point anymore qnd i loved the theater experience. Prices are too bigh, audiences are too loud. Plus i can stream most movies within a month of release for free.
True. It’s not very exclusive anymore either. And we’ve gotten so used to seeing things when we want to and how we want to with zero pressure to lock all the way in like we used to. I remember when the Sopranos used to come on and it was like a cardinal sin to speak during the show because then other people you’d be watching with might miss a line and there was no rewinding. lol
Yeah I'm single and have AMC Stubs which is a steal if you're a cinephile. But I can't imagine if I had 2-3 kids and a wife lol I'd probably never go to the movies either or I'd sneak out and go myself 😂 Where I live a regular ticket costs $12, add $4-6 for Dolby or IMAX. Then a popcorn & drink combo is $14-18 depending on the size. Even if you have the whole family share a popcorn that would put a family of 4 down $60+ dollars per movie. That's hard to justify especially in today's economy
While it's on my mind: when I initially heard about your visit to Tennessee, I thought you came to interview Burchett. Then I learned that the visit was all about watching Godzilla. I'm glad to know that we have an awesome IMAX!
The movies released in the last couple of years were made during the pandemic and it shows in the lack of quality. Too much social distancing and protocols on set. It worked it's way into the final products. They feel lifeless and sterile.
Great show today everyone! Roxy you killed it hosting at Flappers and you should be very proud of yourself. I agree with what Kristian is saying about the Oscars and its why I never watch it. It is an academy of people basically saying (in my opinion) we know more about film making than you so we get to decide what the best film of the year is. In my opinion If infinity war or Avatar or Barbie makes a billion dollars then those were the best film according to way more people then a few hundred academy members anyway great show!
@@Aussie27Legend yeah I see what you are saying but I just mean thay if nobody went to go see killers of the flower moon or air is because of a lack of interest from the general public which is who the academy are trying to get to watch the Oscar's. So when I watch and see 10 movies picked as best picture of the year and I haven't heard of them or had no interest in them then why do I want to watch the Oscar's. I can count on one hand the number of best picture winners that I have watched thay either put me to sleep or were just not as good as the critics said in my opinion which is why I never go spend money on them because they are so hit or miss. But yet I have seen avatar the way of water for example 10 times. It just feels like if not an artsy person and don't like those kinds of movies I'm then expected to tune in and watch a show rewarding movies that I either found not good or boring. But like I said I get what you are saying in a way.
Its because theaters are just too expensive and they come out so fast on vod that its not hrd to wait. Plus home setups are so good now and so affordable. Plus theaters being closed proved imo most movies dont need to be seen in the theater
If these streaming companies can’t put their movies in a theater for a week then I’m sorry it’s not eligible. If they can’t do the bare minimum why should they be rewarded?
I freaking really liked May December but I agree the ending didn’t work for me. I gave it a 4.5 out 5 because of the ending but I can see why it has the buzz. I really do think the Oscars should go to streaming. It feels like a small pocket of people even follow it now. I don’t know anyone besides myself and my wife who watches it. General audiences don’t give a crap about it.
The thing to realize is that even if a movie doesn’t do well in the theater, the money it made is more money than it would have made if it was just put on streaming.
Right, people are always dismissing the fact that theatrical is the engine that drives the revenue train of a movie… If a movie is not “theater worthy,” then what’s the point? Because that means the movie isn’t good enough, nor did it have potential to make money. The “streaming movie” is a mirage created by the streaming wars and cheap debt… Streamers are less and less inclined to write those fat checks for movies that bypass theatrical.
I don't know why movies are "failing" as I have been going to any movies that I like or wanted to see 1st or 2nd times or maybe 3rd times. As far as the Marvel movies that came out this year, I enjoyed them all (😊) including the Japanese movies. I just don't go to see Horrors or comedy. maybe musical maybe.
No one want to spend their hard earned money on action comedies in the middle of a recession , just to have “fun”. People are spending their money on high quality, well thought out, inspirational entertainment, if at all.
It’s expensive to go to the movies. Heck I don’t even have a cinema in my town now, so I have to travel 1.5hr to the next nearest one. So price of ticket, price of food, price of fuel and then the time investment. Unless it is something special like Dune 2 I ain’t going to the movies on the regular 😢
I just like to add to your guys talking points, that horror movies, overall, do great at the box office. The Nun 2, Insidious 5, Five Nights at Freddy's, Scream 6, Saw X, Evil Dead Rise, and M3gan were profitable at the box office.
in my case i cant drive at night (cataracts) so id have to c the movie during the day but all theaters want to play at night now so i have to wait till streaming
I think the movie industry now falls prey to a who knows who dilema. They are not scouting good talent. The only studios that seem to be hitting home runs are Netflix , Blumhouse and in some cases Amazon. They at least are trying to make content that is new edgy and controversial.
Kristian going on about the Oscars… what do you want them to nominate, The Flash or The Marvels 😂 to be fair, many people saw a lot of the nominees last year (avatar, top gun, Elvis) and this year will be Barbie, Oppenheimer, etc
Huge reason why people don't go to the pictures like they use too is cost. Here in England it can be from £7,8,9 for a basic film, but for a 3D, OR 4DX, or IMAX 3D, and its £15, £16 per person. Here now at least the people who run the cinemas allow you to take your own sweets and stuff. Oscars I totally agree, it's no longer a show or really about film, it seems more now who made it and let's try and make someone more money, or a studio more money. There has been a lot of films that have won an Oscir, that didn't deserve it...At all. But yeah make it a show. They've a year to fet it right, script it, direct it right, done. Its too club housey, too this is our club, you can watch but we'll entertain ourselves, and if you like it great, if not tough. Love the show as always, and great to see the stunning Roxy do her things, love it. Love the show and content. Great adult discussion with info and banter about stuff we love. We'll done everyone we love it.❤
@@TheKristianHarloff I think that the longer these studios focus on filling their streaming services up with new content, the harder it will be to get people back to the theater. At this point, even if they announced that movies will stay in theaters for at least three months before going to streaming or Blu-Ray, I would still just be patient. The enthusiasm is gone.

There’s no reason actors like Leo need to be paid 40 MILLION dollars to star in a movie. No man needs 40 MILLION DOLLARS. Way too much money being spend.
Very true. There's no way he should be taking that big a paycheck for a 3 1/2 hr movie that will most likely not make money
I feel like with the way things are going this will start to adjust in the next few years to reflect the diminishing draw of actors. After a couple years of big stars not delivering returns on their movies they will lose some of their leverage. Hopefully this will help studios start delivering more realistically budgeted movies.
Imagine if someone got paid $40 million for a script.
it's not just Hollywood, you got young NBA basketballers getting paid $50m a season to dribble a ball and throw it through a metal hoop while outside the stadium you have homeless people begging for spare change.
Roxy did a fantastic job of hosting the live show. Hope she does the next Big Thing Live show! That live show was fantastic!
As a big animation fan I do wanna go into the animation industry and I’m in art school
I only care for the Oscar’s for the best animated category all animation is made in Burbank
Good show everyone.
Like Winston said, the #1 reason is streaming. Years ago I knew I had to go see movies OR wait almost a year. Now that that wait is just a couple of months, I dont feel as motivated to go
Yep… the industry did this to themselves… since they’re lacking common sense.
When you watch 100 movies a year like most critics and hardcore film fans, you start to crave anything different and unorthodox.
THAT’S why May December is getting so much love, because it’s different from all the same shit we watch multiple times a year.
90% of all movies have always been crap. Same with music and TV. I'd hate to have to see that many crap movies as a reviewer.
Budgets have just grown too big. It creates an unachievable profit margin.
There are a bunch of movies on there that I thoroughly enjoyed that would never get put on the big screen these days like “ always be my maybe” “ love guaranteed” “when we first met”
So it’s a bitter sweet situation.
You don’t have to have snacks to watch a movie.
I was crying 😂. I really love these episode 😂
Thank you!!
Cinemas have been in decline for years, because of streaming, binge watching and poor quality of movies being released, ETC. I went to see Napoleon and it was half full on the first weekend of release.

There’d be less failing movies if Studios didn’t spend $300 million on them!
A lot of that inflated budget is because of COVID protocols.
I don’t understand why people are ignoring that fact.
YUP
So why $300 Million made some audiences not go see it? I’m pretty sure that C-19 was the cause of movies failing to see them in Movie Theaters since there are still some people staying home a lot.
THAT MAKES NO SENSE…YOU MEAN IF THEY MADE MOVIES FOR THE MAJORITY AND NOT THE MINORITY
I think there's less than 5 movies a year that cost that much
There's so much content nowadays that i can't even keep up with. My list of streaming shows and movies is so long i can't ever justify going to the movies unless its something i'm SUPER excited about, but honestly, i havn't been that excited about anything coming out recently. Nothing i can't just wait for to be on my streaming eventually.
Godzilla is amazing! Human story was great and Godzilla was awesome and the score!
I like the Oscar’s. Haven’t missed it since about 98. But I love film and I enjoy trying to watch all the nominated movies.

Funny IG segment …! 😂
because the middle class is shrinking and people cant afford to go to the movies.
Just watched the lobster this morning! Loved it, cant wait for poor things now.
My take:
Harloff's rundown of the 1989 Best Picture noms shows the spread of movies.
I hope to see Superman: Legecy be inspired from the animated series from the 90s, light and dark with less humor.
Agreed. That’s why the “Most Popular” award was a stupid idea.
@@chrismalik1579If the true point of the Oscars was to honor the best, they would have different methodology…. As it stands, it is a political or popularity contest… only not at the box office, but inside the industry and among Oscar voters.
@@brandononbrand the point I'm making is that's what the oscars are supposed to be about
@@chrismalik1579 yeah, there's what the Oscars claim to be or what we want them to be... But then there's what they actually are.

Hey that's what I said!
The issue is also WHEN its gonna be in streaming. In the past the wait was long, now its just a couple of months
The movie theater experience is not what it used to be. If I can’t see a movie on a premium screen opening weekend, I’ll wait until streaming.
I only get my award results from social media now
Movies that should not be in theaters would be Air, or lesser known superhero names unless they build an audience like Deadpool.
When a piece of garbage like Freddys 5 Nights (or whatever that thing was called) outgrosses terrific films from some of our greatest filmmakers, its the brain dead audience, not the films
i love you three.

Roxy has a voice i could listen to all day.. not gonna lie.
Wow what a rare nice comment about my voice! Hell ya.
This is a big topic your covering Kristian about how movies make money, what should be in theatres, etc. You really should have had an expert on like Dan Murrell because I somewhat agree with Roxy, you were making it confusing.
The inner movie snob in me really disagrees with Kristian’s Oscar take.
An ad for Aquaman played before this video. That seems appropriate.
Tickets are too expensive and a good percentage of movie goers are rude.

Obviously, right now CERTAIN films aren't doing as well and that can come down to many things:
- Marketing is a big one and as a masters graduate in digital marketing I can tell you right now that lots of films have no broken through and figured out what it means to market a film well and reach the audience it's intended for whether it's through digital means or practical ones like how a film like Barbie did it
- Economics is also a big thing too, movie theaters NEED to back off the price gauging on tickets and concessions.
I hope this all makes sense and people see it!👍
Theaters used to be more affordable is one issue for sure.
I remember when the Sopranos used to come on and it was like a cardinal sin to speak during the show because then other people you’d be watching with might miss a line and there was no rewinding. lol
Total agree. Usually when I go to the theatre I go matinee. But I lose out on the crowd experience and reaction.
Also theater etiquette is terrible
Damn now I wanna watch Brett’s Apple movie
Many are failing because they just aren’t very good 🤷♂️
Bibbs has said this for years. Disney should have The Muppets host the Oscars.
I'm wondering if good isn't good enough. The film needs to be fucking great for people to rush to the theaters.
14:45 Kristian is a Tomato right now #laughhardtilyoudie
If it’s a streaming movie it is a dip in quality. That’s just how people see it. Right or wrong.
I love Roxy

I have a few directors I trust, like always. I go to the movies several times a year and am seldom disappointed, like always.
I just like to add to your guys talking points, that horror movies, overall, do great at the box office. The Nun 2, Insidious 5, Five Nights at Freddy's, Scream 6, Saw X, Evil Dead Rise, and M3gan were profitable at the box office.
Mostly because they were cheap to make, came out at the right time with no competition that weekend or the next weekend
@@chrismalik1579 20 or 30 million I wouldn't call it cheap. 5 or 10 million to make a movie that's different story.
Why is Beverly Hills Cop 4 not going to be in theaters? Thats crazy
in my case i cant drive at night (cataracts) so id have to c the movie during the day but all theaters want to play at night now so i have to wait till streaming

Mission Impossible Day of Reckoning underperforming is the most baffling example of a movie underperforming since War of the Planet of the Apes.

Movies should do the vcr/DVD route with streaming. Wait 5 or 6 months to release it on streaming.
Yeah we honestly need to go back to the old model of waiting 9+ months until a new release hits streaming services.
