- We arrive in Castletown for lunch and a walk around the town. Unfortunately the castle was closed so after stocking up with food we carry on our drive heading west to Port St. Mary.
On reaching a good park up we realise we have a flat tyre and have to backtrack to Douglas in search of a repair.

What I like so much about, you are so quick to smile and laugh not at all stuffy or stodgy.
Without Carols excellent organizational skills, it wouldn’t work. Her ability especially with kitchen equipment amazes me. When I was younger I was good at organizing especially at work, sorta ok at home. Now the skill has slipped……………I truly like things orderly, but don’t have the energy I need to keep the entire house well organized these days.
Great job, great skill Carol.
I am lucky to have her 👍
I am thoroughly enjoying your adventures, they make my day so look forward to your adventures. Stay safe and well both of you xx
Thanks Linda. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂👍
I like the way The Caff gives you a choice of thick or thin toast. That is service.
Good service, when you find it these days it’s special. 👍
Morning Carol and Ken.
Morning Larry 👋
I love watching your video
Thanks Eamonn 🙂
Great video. Thanks.
Castleton looks like a lovely wee place. Good old Google Maps, still, made for a good wee adventure 👍
Times like that we thank God we have a tiny van 😂
Thankyou for sharing.
If you go on Amazon, you can buy a plugging repair kit for repairing tyres for about £20. I always carry such a kit just in case, even though we have a spare wheel. You can then repair the type of puncture you suffered, often without even removing the wheel as long as the hole is in the tread area. A scalpel type knife comes in handy to cut off the excess after the plug repair has been completed.
Been driving 34 years and never heard of these before, interesting. Thank you 👽👍
Were really enjoying you video
Thank you both for another wonderfull day out. Cannot wait for more
Best Regards.
Martin King
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Love watching your videos. My son moved to IOM a year ago to Onchan and now is in Peel. Glad you loved the Caff!
Your son is lucky to live in Peel. We loved it there. Thanks for watching 🙂
Spent many a happy hour at The Sound as well. The cafe is much improved! And went across to the Calf from Port Erin many a time. Loved to sit and watch the swirling currents at The Sound. This brings back so many happy memories of family holidays. Sadly, my dad and brother are no longer with us.
Glad we can bring back some happy memories for you. We would have loved to have done that boat trip over to the Calf, it looked lovely 🙂
Spent many a happy hour at Cregneash! And scared ourselves to death at The Chasms! Happy days! ❤️
The chasms were horrific 👍
Stop and go kit from Amazon brilliant.
Thanks for the tip. 👍
I can recomment The Point at Port St Mary, Quiet, nice views and good facilities.
Cheers 👍
Hello, I'm Stephanie 🌹Rose I am your new subscriber!🌴 I live in Florida. Also on the🦈 water. I was curious about your comment, which way is the wind blowing, does it make a difference? The screw in your tire, you should keep a repair kit. Dreadful that they would tell you to come back tomorrow for something that only takes a few minutes. Look it up on RUclips you would be surprised. Simple repairs can be very scary until you know what you're doing, like anything else! Thank you for letting me👣 tag along.🙏 Stay well, Be safe 🐚
Welcome Stephanie Rose, thanks for subscribing. We like to note which way the wind is blowing when parking up for the night so we can park nose in to the wind. That way the wind has less resistance blowing over the bonnet and less rocking of the van during the night. We do now carry a repair kit having learnt from this experience 👍🙂
I love the music in this video. Great success with the tire puncture. And Google Maps? Can get you lost, even in the US. Ugggh. Good advice on not trusting it.
Thanks Evie 🙂
I always carry a tyre plugging kit
I have ordered one now for future trips 👍
Love watching your vids about the IoM 🇮🇲 I've lived here most of my life and have learnt lots from you guys x It is indeed a beautiful place and I'm very happy you came here. We originally clicked on your vids because we would love to get a van or camper. Your info and advice in this area is great too x
Get a camper Grace you will love the freedom it brings ❤️
Also, loving Carol’s photography!
I’m definitely wanting to go to the Isle of Man now. It’s so beautiful. The food so far looks delicious. Thanks for the continuing tour. Mary
Our pleasure Mary, thanks for watching 😀
Great job Ken and carol as always thanks for sharing cheers
Ken, I would suggest carrying some emergency inflating (aerosol can) form in case you are in a more remote location next time
That’s a good tip, thanks Adrian 👍🙂
I watched a advert, from Hertford Campers. They buy these lovely Nissan Vans, then convert them. Can't believe how much they can put into them. Even the pop up roof, can be a sleeping area. Wish I could afford one. Lovely videos. Much love to you both. ❤
Thanks Jayne. We did try setting up our pop top for sleeping but it turned into a bit of a disaster ruclips.net/video/as6bqku6eQw/видео.html
Great place for kids to sleep though 😀
Such enjoyable videos- glorious countryside and villages! Thank you!
I’m here…….as ever, 😁. Looking forward to another superb episode 👍🇮🇲
Like you said you are knowing all the routes on the island - a true local. Loved the park up ‘ let’s get cosy spin the chair kettle on and have cake ‘. That hairpin reminded me of the metal crunch one - we were waiting for a noise
If only we had known not to go up that road! At least we entertained the locals and no crunching this time 😁
Ahoy Pirates! Had no doubt about you folks finding the solution faster than my thoughts can fly! .) Great feeling to just dive in the scenery with all the Sea around! Lovely animals as always, becoming fond of seals too now, thanks to your constant reminders! :D So happy to watch your rumble on the Isle! .) Bear hugs, your Captain of the good old Blackthorne
Seals are indeed lovely creatures. They are very inquisitive so you may encounter one out on the high seas one day 🦭😀❤️
Your videos have a bit of everything...info, humour, spectular scenery captured and some fabulous photographs. Thank you 🙂
Thanks Claire 🙂
Hari OM
I feel like I would be able to find my way around the IoM without any maps after watching your videos! Quite an easy place to become familiar with and yet yielding surprises such as those back lanes. And everywhere, views... YAM xx
We quickly got to know a lot of the roads which made it very easy to find places 🙂
Oh dear! those narrow roads reminded me of our recent holiday in Cornwall. Google or not we did a right turn onto the narrowest of roads. 12ft. high hedges and the road barely wide enough for our hired Yaris. No passing places. After about 2 miles we saw our first tiny passing place, just as we met a huge tractor. Thankfully the driver gave us the route out and we lived happily ever after. It wasn't for the fainthearted. love your videos. Take care.
Great story but hope you aren’t in that situation again ☺️
Great to see a new upload👍 how lucky that your tyre got repaired quickly and for a good price and you could continue your travels. Thank you for always making the effort to produce good videos❤🤗
Thanks Anita. We were so glad we got that repair done quickly and for a good price 🙂👍
That was a quick fix and didn’t break the bank. That’s good. You two stay well.
Cheers Larry 👍
You've had a great adventure in IoM. Nice bit of Bach cello, can I recommend to you the version by Mischa Maisky, I'm sure you'll appreciate it. I had a similar tyre repair at my local garage, cost £10, so I gave them £20 as the service was fantastic and so fast, I believe in supporting local businesses or our villages will disappear.
Thanks for the recommendation, I will check it out 👍🙂
Beautiful adventure!! Glad you were able to get your tire fixed promptly 👍 can’t wait to see your next adventure ❣️
Thanks Jackie 😀
Hi Ken, Carol. That is why I didn't put Pidgeon Stream on the list that I sent you. You seem to be enjoying the island though.
Very sensible 🙂👍
Thanks for sharing yet another interesting vlog with all the difficulties, slow puncture, driving up that tight road and not finding where to park, closed castle, glad your good meal was a success....Lol
Thanks Diana 😀
Still enjoying this trip, it's wonderful, keep em coming. Good to see Carol is on the mend 😃Thank you 👽👍
Thanks for watching and your lovely comment 🙂
What a cliffhanger at the end! 😊
There was a tyre place 400 yards from where you noticed the puncture, glad you got it sorted though 👍
Yes, I was thinking the same!
We asked a local man who was passing and he said it would be better to go to the one in Douglas 🙂
Great video as usual, lovely musical soundtrack.
Thanks Nicholas 🙂👍
it is always a joy to watch new episodes of your trip, I really didn't know the isle of man was that beautiful, I know this isle only from the TT, looks that almost all of your trip around the isle of Man has been in good weather in general. that wil makes your trips extra Nice . Stay safe !!!
Thanks guys. We did encounter some wet weather as you will see in future episodes but it didn’t stop us from enjoying our trip to the island. Plenty to see and do 🙂
One thing I never skimp on is Tyres, for one I would never get repaired, seen to many accidents with repaired Tyres, just my opinion Great upload folks.
I've unfortunately had many punctures over time. Always had them repaired where possible at a tyre centre or garage and never had any issues. The main point is that the repair is carried out correctly.
@@darrenpardoe £25 for a repair or £70 for a new one, I value my life more than £50 fella you have a blow out at 70mph you know exactly what I mean, I don’t skimp on tyres never have and never will.
@@buddha1736 Where are you getting your tyres from? mine are near £200 for each corner? If it was dangerous to repair tyres then it would be illegal!
Thank you for sharing this. It was a joy to see my home through your eyes. PS next time you're looking for lunch in Castletown, pop into The George Hotel - I can give you my staff discount - and it's quieter than CoffeeCraft. 😊
Jez the cat is the local celebrity - he has his own Facebook page. 😊
Great video apart from those narrow roads!!!!!
Thanks Elizabeth. We soon got used to those narrow roads ☺️
Have you thought of putting a solution called OKO in your tyres it's a military grade anti puncture sealant that you put in before you get a puncture, it is peace of mind if you do unfortunately get a puncture don't panic the solution seals the tyre and you don't even have to worry about getting the tyre repaired or replaced as it permanently seals the hole unless in the side wall sadly .
Do check though if your vehicle is fitted with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) as sadly depending on the system you might not be able to use OKO.
No TPMS in ours. I will check it out thanks 👍
@8:40...They hadn't got time to fix a puncture?...Hmmm....They just plug it and it takes literally TWO MINUTES. Island Tyres weren't very accommodating!
It was quite late in the day and there were a lot of cars waiting. We didn’t mind spending another night in Douglas in the van.
Scary but pretty
The same thing happened to my car last summer, luckily I had a tire repair kit, a 12v compressor and a sharp knife. Its was easy work...
Glad you could get it fixed 👍🙂
beautiful as ever the views
food , and the countryside.
I always enjoy your videos.
it was sad to here about the mum and son 😢
Thanks for watching Moira. We always enjoy reading your comments ❤️
Jez is the cat he’s a massive celebrity on island!!
Just discovered his Facebook page 👍😀
Calf of Man is lovely. The cafe is good and was used in the film Keeping Mum.
Didn’t know that Alan, we will check it out 👍🙂
Very pretty place
Thank you for both sharing your journeys.
Our pleasure Thomas. Thanks for watching 😀
On that back lane google maps took you, i bet the locals were saying "bloody campervans get everywhere!" lol
Another fab episode from you both, thank you. It certainly wasn't event free though......... From noisy cafes, to punctures, to roads no campervans have been before :)
See you in the next vid guys, take care xx
Cheers Tom 👍🙂
Can’t wait for the next vlog! This trip is bringing back memories of our visit back in June, 2018.
Thanks Linda. Happy to bring back some fond memories for you 🙂
Like castletown nice place visit hope visit castle end I was in castle town this year great place I visited ever year I use go boat from Llandudno pier last of boat trips was 2005 hope got tire fixed
Didn’t know about the boat trips from Llandudno, what a shame they stopped them.
Welcome to Glen Chass, if you had gone straight at that hair pin you would have found a turning point, never has been but should have a sign. You are so close to two of my homes when I lived on the island. I think I did warn you about the Marine Drive, the government are looking at closing the road now. The little island between the calf and the main land is Kitterland.
Thanks for all the info Dave. It will be a shame if they close down Marine Drive. We were hoping to drive along it to Port Soderick and were disappointed to see it had been blocked off.
@@LifeistooshortCK the marine drive has been closed since the 60’s due to the road falling away. It’s starting to collapse at the start just round from the apartments at the bus turning point. The Royal Engineers did volunteer to repair but the government had to pay for the materials used, it never got done. Great place to watch out to see for the ferry if you are meeting somebody of the boat.
yeah, it was just probably parked with the nail resting on something under the tyre twisting it so let the air out quickly while parked
Another enjoyable video the island must have shrunk in size once you knew the roads quite well you've had an wonderful trip so far always appreciated the effort you both put in thank you take care 🙂
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it Sue 🙂👍
Loving the Camper - I am on the look out for another one :)
You really were getting some funny looks driving up that little road weren’t you! I also had google map fun in Scotland 😆. Loved the video 👍🏻 x
I think we gave them some entertainment 😁 Wish Google would stick to the main routes though instead of always trying to cut the corners 😖
You have just made my night.. Your video and strictly on tv.Gosh that's what i call a proper mug of tea and it all looked tasty, love tea with chip's. I wouldn't fancy going around there on a motorbike. Wondering where you ended up 🤔. XX ❤️💙
Simple pleasures Margaret 😁 You will find out in the next episode soon 👍🙂
Such a beautiful place such a shame I can't travel across water .but your my sea legs and taken me around the isle of man and with out me getting sea sick lol ..
@weepiest nutt yes I agree agree with that. But having a motor home will restrict me personally to mainland UK and that's fine for us ..i also don't like flying ! But thanks for your comment 😀
Funnily enough we drove down the same pier in Port St Mary earlier today. Lots of boats out of the water at the side now so a lot tighter to drive down. The cat is called Jez and he has his own Facebook page!
Thanks for letting us know. We are now fans of Jez 😀
Tyre fixing kits/plugs are easy to use for a quick fix on cars and motorbike (ebay about £3) essential carry for your tool box
Thanks Jon. I have now got one to carry in the van for the next trip 🙂👍
Another great video! You are welcome on the IOM anytime!.....
Cheers Anthony 😀
I'm sooo out of touch with prices of things! £24 for a puncture repair! My first car was a Mini for £25 hahaha - I guess that's life. Love your videos of IoM, we learn so much. Stay safe both
Those were the days when you could buy a car for £25!
Hello Ken / Carol Castletown looks like a nice place to just walk around , lucky with your puncture just a screw you can buy a Fix-A-Flat sealant/inflator aerosol they work really good and take up very little space. Take care both of you.
Yes we will add that to the kit list 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK Hello Ken I was just trying to find your video talking about the iPad maps and that extra chip for the improvement which one was that ? thanks Shaun
@@shaunmckenna1923 This is the one you need ruclips.net/video/ofrChLp7p4s/видео.html
Good video on your travels stay safe lee
Thank you Lee, we will👍🙂
Used to spend my holidays and watch the Tt races
I noticed in your last video near the end when you were parking up to go on a walk, that the nearside rear tyre looked a bit soft! You might have been driving around with a slow puncture for days. Thanks for another good, informative video.
You could well be right. No idea where we picked it up.
That lane was narrow Ken.
We like to explore a bit off the beaten track, that’s why we love having a little van 😁
£24 is more than normal price, normally pay £10/15 but its fixed and better than paying £70/100 on a new tyre.
Amazing video as usual 😁
Thanks for the info!
We got carols choice of breakfast right. But thought you might go for the big boy Ken lol. Lovely video as always guys.
You know us so well Michael 😊
@@LifeistooshortCK Only because i would have gone for it myself Ken haha
You are teasing me, Ken and Carol, with your flying visit to Port St. Mary. I am hoping you go back for a proper visit and there are some good places to eat in the village. Coffee Craft in Castletown must be fairly new and that was in Market Square, Ken- I couldn't quite make out what you called it in the video. I really laughed when Google Maps sent you up that way to get to the Sound. I have walked that road many times and during the TT the locals put out helpful notices for all the visiting bikers who get confused and end up on the farmers' fields. which, if you are walking can get you to the Sound - it is part of the Raad Ny Foillan ( Way of the Gull) coastal path that goes around the entire Island. The Caff in Douglas has been there for years and is well located by the bus terminals.
Thanks for all your info Chryseas, love hearing all your insights. We did try and get a table at the fish restaurant in Port St Mary but they were fully booked 😕
@@LifeistooshortCK So pleased to know that the Fish House is doing well during these difficult times. You do usually have to make a reservation for dinner there as it is a popular venue. I am wondering if you went to "The Albert" the pub located just across the road from there - now that is a very popular spot!
@@chryseass.5143 sorry to say we didn’t go there. These are all good tips though for when we make a return visit 👍🙂
I hope that wasn't 24 pound sterling 🤣 I guess you can charge a premium on such a small island . I had same job done in Liverpool last week. £8
Sounds like we paid over the top but we were just glad to get it fixed. I have now got a repair kit in case it happens again ☺️
Search for videos of the World Tin Bath Championships and you'll see what that pier in Castletown at 1:10 is for - launching human powered flying machines!
That looks like a lot of fun, we will be watching those videos later. Thanks for letting us know 👍😀
Hi Ken Carol,Ken how long have you been on the Isle of Man it been a wonderful experience for me ,I have enjoyed every blog, the only think I find hard to keep up with is Carol‘S names ,bunny ,Charlie ,ECT ,the type is safe to plug because it’s in the middle of the tread if it was in the side it’s against the law to plug ,,Ken I just knew you was having a large Breakfast look delicious yum yum ,that beach you went to with all the seals 🦭 lots of people there what is the attraction there it looked beautiful from my reclining chair lol well you lovely people till next time take care keep safe, John 👏👏😂💦💦🦭🦭🦭🦭🇬🇧🇬🇧
Glad you are enjoying the series John. We were on the Isle of Man for three weeks. The seals were on the Calf of Man, an island off the southern tip of the Isle of Man 😀
Love your video
Looking for a camper too atm
The music on this one was exquisite!! Who chooses the music, you or Chutney???
Ken chooses all the music 🙂
Hello guys I continue to watch your videos which I really love. Super!! Does the van have
A spare tire in case of Major flat.?
Thanks for watching Mik. Yes it does have a full size spare tyre carried under the van 👍🙂
The cat is named Jez. He's a regular in Castletown Square. His owners are friends of ours.
Thanks for letting us know 😻
Ken did you DI your vehicle POWER! Get yourself a repair kit off Amazom and do it yourself.
Got one. Not sure what DI my vehicle means ?
@@LifeistooshortCK Ken it's a daily inspection. I bet your Force had a garage hand to do ghem!😉 You must of come across the newmonic POWER. Petrol Oil Water Electrics Rubber (Tyres)!!🤣🤣
Surprised that witches were burned on the IoM. Usually hanging was the punishment for witchcraft on these islands, burnings at the stake being reserved for Heresy and Treason. Though a crime of "Petty Treason" was created for wives who murdered their husbands and could as such be burned. Carol take note😂.
However the island has its own legal system which still allowed birching of young offenders till as recently as 1976, so maybe things were different then too.
Very enjoyable report again.
Thanks for your comment Peter, very interesting 👍🙂
Great information again and love the food stops. Do you use a camera to take the still shots or are they taken from the video footage?
The stills are normally from Carols iPhone. We tend to use stills from the video for our video thumbnails 👍
Do you not have a spare wheel
Yes full size spare under the van.
Don't tell me that was pea and ham soup. It looked like melted mint ice cream.
Broccoli and Stilton 😁
@@LifeistooshortCK Well, of course it was salty, then!
@@LifeistooshortCK Oh ok, that's better.
Better as in ok, not better than pea and ham soup. No one beats my pea and ham soup.
@@adelarsen9776 I have heard it’s good. Do you still use a whole pig or have you had to cut down due to Covid 😁👍
@@LifeistooshortCK Let me tell you my friend.
I make it from scratch.
4 home smoked hocks
2 onions diced rough
1 x Spring onion / challote - sliced
1kg yellow split peas
4 stalks of celery whole
2 x potato cubed and diced
Cover split peas in hot water and let stand for 1 hour.
Place hocks in base of large pot.
Tip the hot water and split peas in.
Add the vege's
Simmer for 4-5 hours on low. Continue to stir. Do not allow to stick to bottom.
Only add salt and pepper when serving.
Serve with crusty bread and real butter.
You can add diced carrots if you're so inclined.
I had a nail in my tyre last week, where do they come from , does somebody go around scattering them on the roads?
Good question Lynne. Another of life’s mysteries 🤷♂️🤷♀️
£24 was a bit steep for plugging a tyre in my opinion.
We didn’t know what price to expect ☺️
Darn I've caught up. C'mon man get yer finger out and upload the next episode before IOM withdrawal sets in and I end up in the foetal position muttering to myself. 😊😎
🤣🤣🤣
Just wondering, does the van have a spare tire?
Yes full spare wheel and tire under the van 👍
@@LifeistooshortCK Ta, good to know.
A lot of money for a puncture repair ,buy yourself a puncture plugger that was a ripoff
Exactly right!...24 quid is SCANDALOUS!
24 STG to plug a tyre!!??? NOOO....Should be a tenner! Plugging is literally 2 minutes work.
To be honest, we were expecting it to be more ☺️
@@LifeistooshortCKThanks for reply... Having done some googling...I stand corrected...What you paid seems perfectly reasonable in the UK. Based on my own experience in Ireland (for me & others) the cost was lower..A tyre shop a few years ago fixed a similar puncture for me for the tiny price of 8 euro ..and a friend recently had one done for 12 euro.
@@LifeistooshortCK And it might be worthwhile getting yourself a plugging kit..in case u get stuck again...especially if a long way from a garage...they're just a few pounds on Amazon or elsewhere & are exactly the same as what the garage uses....And very easy to use too..see youtube videos!
@@typhoontim125 thanks for the tip, I have now ordered a plugging kit 👍🙂
@@LifeistooshortCK Fantastic....It will fix a typical puncture in the main thread of the tyres, just like the one you had. A bottle-nosed pliers (or similar) and/or screwdriver might also be needed to remove a screw or nail. The kit is not to be used on the wall of the tyre. A puncture in the wall of the tyre will mean tyre replacement. Anyway, hopefully you don't have to use it but it will give you peace of mind at least and may prove a lifesaver (and money-saver) one day! Ps your videos are fabulous...They're like therapy in this frazzled, frenetic world! Safe motoring.
I keep trying to get that mark off your windscreen for you but it doesn't seem to be helping much. L.o.l
We have a stone chip in our screen which was repaired but I see it in all our clips 😁👍. I wish it had been replaced
It says "Comments 11" and I counted over 50, without replies. How does that algorithm work, I wonder. Badly?
We have never managed to work it out. The comments system is weak and unreliable. We can have 2 devices open at the same time on the same video and see different lists. I sometimes think YT drip feeds them
