• Kris Kristofferson - S...
Kris said in an interview, "This song probably was the most directly autobiographical thing I had written. In those days I was living in a slum tenement that was torn down afterwards, but it was 25 dollars a month in a condemned building, and "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was more or less looking around me and writing about what I was doing. One time, some people broke into that place, and I had to call the police station to answer some questions about it, and the guy said, "Yeah, they really trashed the place when they went in there." But I hadn't noticed that it was any different. There were holes in the wall bigger than I was. It was quite a place, so "Sunday Morning Coming Down" is kind of more or less what I was living at that time. I guess it was depressing, I don't know, but the chorus was kind of uplifting. ... What I was really trying to do was to keep the feeling of loss and of sadness. For me at that time, it was the loss of my family and looking at a little kid swinging on a swing and his daddy pushing him. That was the feeling I wanted to get for the whole song. I think Sunday was the choice because the bars were closed in the morning and nobody was at work, so if you were alone, it was the most alone time..."
- Видеоклипы
“ Found my cleanest dirty shirt” What a great line. 🧡🧡
Hey, how are you doing?
Kris is one of the most wonderful songwriters in this century.
Truly underrated :-)

truly
Kris painted the picture of loneliness. A masterpiece!
Still goosebumps..
And mr cash finished it with him .
I lost my dad when I was 9 to alcohol addiction and that was 21 years ago and I still miss him everyday but as soon as I hear Johnny cash I can see him and still hear him singing his songs ❤️
Hi Loretta, How are you doing?
Great story! Thanks for sharing.
Loretta, so sad but you are a strong and loving person, pity Dad didn't survive longer to love and appreciate such a loving daughter, xxx
Every Sunday Morning is better
when I Hear that fantastic Song !!!

God bless you for your love for your father. I miss mine too. Wonderful thing and someday we will meet them and our heavenly Father.
Best version i've ever heard. These two guys are monuments in music history.
Good version
great
Short a verse?
I like the version of it that they performed with the other two “highwaymen” Waylon and Willie. It was a bit slower and more down beat? If that makes sense. That version of this song really gets to me. It’s got more regret and a touch of sadness to it. Brings to mind that feeling we all get when we think about all the coulda shoulda wouldas in our lives. Plus, I love me some Johnny Cash but Kris sings this song so much better. Especially later in life when his voice got aged a bit
😊😊
Kris and Johnny, two true American treasures!

2023 and here I am. Listening with my beautiful wife. Not even 42 yet and I'm getting nastalgic... Reminds me of the days my old man would bang out the tunes all Sunday long. Everything from JC to Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straights.... Then onto Buddy Holly and Tina Turner.... What a lucky lad I am, was and will forever be. Music really tells a person's character.... Let's not mention the Monty Python nights and Red Dwarf after Top Gear.... I knew of better Times. For which I am forever grateful 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

Agree totally - I am just a little older than you by about 39 years but I am an active old girl and the heart still beats and feet tap and I can still dance (including Jive ) if the chance arises. Love this life.
With 62 years I like it still! May you have a great time!
@@MrDane634 God is a figment of ones imagination
You can't write songs like this unless you have experienced how low addictions can bring you but thankfully these two men came out the other end as I have and all the other people who are winning the battle with addictions one day at a time
'And found my cleanest dirty shirt' - a magic line. I remember Clive James and Pete Atkin writing a parody of Kris's style and calling him 'Griff Gostuffyourself'. Well, James is pushing up the daisies now so I know who's had the last laugh.
Well done gerry you keep on going
One day at a time I'm going to hold you in my heart Proud of you Lost 3 people to addiction ,the heartache is awful 💔😢
You have made me have faith that it can be done Jenny
thank you and the best of luck and health in your life
I remember the first time thst I realized going to the bar or the liquor store had become a chore. Man I'm a lucky man. 6 years sober. Johnny's music has helped no doubt.
Good luck everyone. The challenge is different for every person.

Hello Linda, how are you doing??
This is perhaps one of the most brilliant songs ever written
Smiles, hello Leslie
I’ve often considered how this song came to be and have yet to understand how.
Two of the best
I reckon so.
This is one of those songs that you have to live to write. This isn't make believe. Coal Miners Daughter is the same way. As real as real gets, cant make this shit up.
When my wife’s dad died she asked me to recommend a Cash song for the funeral I immediately recommended this song it was perfect thank you Johnny
What a masterful songwriter Kris Kristopherson is....
A complete treasure and genius
Pretty fair copter pilot, too.
Chris .

I wish talent like this still existed. Kids today have no idea what real musical talent is.
I totally agree
Hey, how are you doing?
@@jamesalley4061 They"sing" all in a monotone !
No melody !
@@richardswann5300 There's a melody and there's harmony, and they're singing. What's your complaint?
So it is!
You can see Kris absolutely loves Cash. True friendship.
One of the best songs ever written, and to see two greats together singing it is breathtaking. This is real Country at its best.
It truly is a work of art. It's a true song, about life.
Two greats, love them both. Love how John treated Kris, and vise versa.
Two Greats doing a song together.
Kris wrote it, Johnny made it famous.
RIP Johnny. Live on Kris.
At Christmas lunch 20 year back, this classic started. My father looked me in the eyes and said "This is you son." It was, in its special way, one of the most beautiful moments of my life. Dad is 80 now, November 11th at 11am, my time of birth, I complete the 53rd year of life. It probably comes across as a little odd without the back story. But my folks raised a good, kind, compassionate and loving citizen of our precious planet. This song is a major signpost of my life and will always bring a something special til the second I draw my final breath.
Love, love, love Kris’ songs “Why Me Lord” and “Sunday Morning Coming Down”, especially when Johnny Cash sings those songs.
Hi Shirley, How are you doing?
Rest in peace Johnny Cash. God bless you Kris Kristofferson I know how you feel about being brought up with family turning against you. I've been through the same thing myself.Amen
I'm very pls to know I'm not the only one that loves😊 the song but when last did you played it?
Hello Benny, how are you doing??
Every time I sing it, my tears fall down my cheeks to my heart....
Hello Jean, how are you doing?
One of the greatest songwriters of all time! To be honest, I am torn between him and Leonard Cohen, who talks much about the same topics Kristofferson does. Cohen does it more cryptic and metaphorical, while Kris does it in a simple, yet eloquent way that touches you deeply…
Brillant.can relate
I'd agree with you Josua Kullen , what about Dylan ? Maybe not the best singer but a good songwriter.
@@mamd7032 I agree too and think Bob Dylan is also one of the best as well
Kris has said before that he wants the first 3 lines of Cohen's Bird on the wire on his gravestone.
You put this so well!
I can't imagine how hard this song could hit you when you're at the bottom fighting demons and addictions !! This is truly amongst all time best songs!!!

Love this song cuz it brings to mind, my dad and my brother,.....and their demons. Lord have mercy on their souls
It hit hard ....very surreal
It doesn't get any better than this, every word in this song was lived by Kris, that's why and how he came to write it so well because he lived this song , . He like others were what country music is all about. Well done Kris
For all his mistakes (drugs, alcohol) No one should ever feel the shame of being disowned by their own family as Kris was by his mother and his family. It is funny that the person whose mother deemed "an embarrassment" to their family would go on to be one of the most beloved songwriters in country music.
Of course I agree with your statement, but we have to understand it was a different time back then, and also not so different. Think of it from Kris's parents perspective...in their mind they did everything they could to make Kris a "successful" adult in life. We all know that excelled in the military and in education by going to Oxford and after working a pretty lucrative job flying helicopters in the oil industry he turned down a cushy teaching position at West Point...to became a janitor/songwriter. This was in an era when women were homemakers and men made a living and supported the family. Class and etiquette were the social graces of the day...they couldn't understand why after all they did and Kris's hard work he would "throw it all away" to be what they considered the equivalent of a hobo-minstrel...That said, I'm one of the biggest Kristofferson fans in the world and don't condone or agree with the way they treated him. I'm glad he shirked the system and changed the face of country western music...that goes without saying, but I do "understand" their grievance, but I also would never do the same to my child and can't believe they never made amends...I know this still bothers Kris, but it's heartwarming to know how happy his family/children make HIM now...He's probably learned a lot about how to and how not to raise his own children through this....
Amen
Sorry but t couldn't get through this process will keeo trying
Kris was a college grad, a military officer and a pilot. he wasn't 'disowned' but both his father and mother were dissapointed that he walked away from a secure future to try to make a living in music.
@@UNMIRED I read recently he didn't speak to his mom for 20 yrs. Other articles give the impression they never made amends. Either way, it's truly horrible for the child, which is Kris, to be shunned as he was. It's never acceptable to not find a way to work that out, at some point. Be angry, fine...but then get over it. Their son grew up to be a fine man, as well as very successful, in spite of them.
This is one of my all time favorites of Krises, but how can you have a favorite of Krises, his songs are all brilliant ♥️
Kris is the most underrated song writer in Nashville.
I’m partial to Loving Her Was Easier but am on total agreement about Kris.

@@tdiddy72ciao amico!🙋😊😘💘🌅
The song is awesome, but the lyrics as such are more than that: a real literary masterpiece! No wonder he studied English literature!
Good
A man with a very high IQ. Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, Army Captain and helicopter pilot, they wanted him to teach English at West Point.
But he wanted to get into music. He wrote the songs "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night" along with a pile of other hits. He closes every concert with “Why Me, Lord”.
I'll bet the majority of us have experienced those mornings where our mind is filled with regrets while we lack the courage to face and fix it, and the day continues to be a real downer.
Pure genius. I'm kind of old but somewhere I thought that he and his parents mended ways.

This was my hubby Alan's favourite song. He loved country music, JC, KK, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, The Highwaymen. Played this song at Alan's funeral service 3 years ago. Even now it brings tears. JC & KK - such talent, raw honesty, and passion. Music to them is not a job, it's life itself
You can see and hear a life of struggle in the faces and voices of these two men.
I love old country.

Poetry from a soul torn apart, music from a real heart. This song was there in my hell years, and it made me glad that I was not alone.

Hey
I love that song and I have lived it through my depression and I use to feel so alone on Sunday, thanks to the Good Lord I got past that, but it is so sad for A man to sit in Church and Cry.
I have loved Johnny all my life - my favorite record album of my childhood was Ring of Fire, it was my parents and I play it so often it had scratches. Kris is the first person I ever remember having a Hollywood crush on, from Star is Born, I was in middle school at the time. He kept his own with Barbara.

Such a great song and an awesome rendition by two greats!!
One of the great songs in this life.
Just stumbled upon this. I was born 1970 and never heard this song. Great song, but what was even more amazing was the beginning. Kris says this may now be his proudest moment ever having Johnny Cash said he would be honored to sing this song with him. The humility and genuine kindness from both men just pours out. Does this even happen in today's music?
Amazing , I was in Nam in 70 , at 18.
That song captures something in an old drinker's soul... a hollow echo, which is impossible to put words to. If it doesn't make your heart ache, you're listening wrong.
