Growing up I always thought Dobie was white and country. So you might have heard this exact song in the past, but once you see the album cover it seems like a different rendition. If that makes any sense.

That's exactly what I thought too! I saw Dobie Gray for the first time about a year ago on a video of him singing this on the Midnight Special. It's like a reverse Bobby Caldwell "What You Won't Do for Love."
