  • Paul Aron is currently leading the Formula 2 championship in his rookie season. However, when discussing young F1 prospects, Paul's name is often overlooked in favor of Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman. So let's take a look at why we should take the talent of this former Mercedes junior seriously as he is poised to make a significant impact on the racing world...

Don't be so hasty there, I know Australians love an underdog, but let's get a few things straight. If you analyse ALL the drivers to ever win F2, especially all the drivers to win F2 on debut or to really impress such as Leclerc, Russell, Hamilton, etc. They were ALL AT LEAST 20 years old by the years end. The youngest ever F2 champion is Charles Leclerc from 2017. He was 20 years 1 month at the season's end at Abu Dhabi in November. Anyone expecting someone 17, 18, 19, etc. to win F2, and on debut, is fooling themselves. The right age for someone to win F2 is someone who will be aged 20-22 by the end of the year. This simply rules out both Bearman and Antonelli. Considering his age and experience level, Andrea Kimi Antonelli has been EXEMPLARY this season.
Onto Paul Aron, don't count the chickens before they've hatched. The upcoming 5 races in 6 weeks, the main European leg of the season, will decide how the F2 championship plays out. By the end of July we will know all about how it will play out. Barcelona, RB Ring, Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa. In a season this tight, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I'm not dissing him, but he needs to keep putting in the performances that he has been so far, and it's a very close championship.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Arron, but I think people are getting a bit carried away here, even just comparing him to Antonelli, this year might be the first year in his career where Kimi doesn’t finish P1 in a championship whilst Arron doesn’t have any championship to his name. As for Paul he is fast, but never in his career has he been known for his outright speed or pace. His consistency was and still is his greatest strength. I think this season is a realistic representation of how he can perform at his absolute peak when he’s not making mistakes. He’s spoken at length about this new formula 2 car really suiting his requirements for what he likes in a car, it being really suited to him and Hitech really understanding this new car enough to provide him with a consistently good base lineup across every round. Pair that with the fact that in the opposite direction, lot of other teams and drivers around Hitech have lost their heads, then he’s going to look absolutely great, because he’s the only one who can actually keep it on the road, so whilst yes take nothing away from Paul, his season so far very much has been bolstered by everyone around him not being able to either keep it on the road or keep it consistent

Fun fact: Paul Aron has been beaten by a teammate in almost every championship he has competed beside 2021 FRECA and this season in F2.
    2019 F4 Italy
    -Aron: 3rd, 226 pts
    -Petecof: 2nd, 233 pts
    2019 ADAC F4
    -Aron: 7th, 129 pts
    -Petecof: 5th, 164 pts
    2020 Formula Renault Eurocup
    -Aron: 11th, 54 pts
    -Martins: 1st, 348 pts
    -Saucy: 7th, 95.5 pts
    2022 Formula Regional Asian
    -Aron: 8th, 80 pts
    -Crawford: 6th, 113 pts
    2022 Formula Regional European
    -Aron: 3rd, 238 pts
    -Beganovic: 1st, 300 pts
    2023 FIA Formula 3
    -Aron: 3rd, 112 pts
    -O'Sullivan: 2nd, 119 pts
Meanwhile, Kimi has beaten every teammate he's had and has won every championship he has competed full time (and even the F4 ADAC in which he missed 3 races).
Another fun fact, Kimi's teammates have been way tougher having Oliver Bearman and Rafael Camara. Bearman already looking like a F1 future star and Rafael Camara dominating FRECA in his second year with double points than the 2nd driver in the standings after Kimi had almost double the points Camara had last season.

things is hes been good in the championships his teammates have beaten him, 2 have won the championship,2 came 2nd when he came 3rd in standings while most of the times hes been a rookie. and tbh he has been really good compared to expectations for him, he could be a superstar in f1 but like you said antonelli, bearman have a higher chance and if camara does well in f3 next year maybe him aswell

    • @f1alpaca
      @f1alpaca  2 месяца назад +14

You gotta be kidding saying Kimi had tougher teammates than Aron.
Bearman would've been higher in the standings imo if he had competed in Jeddah.
As for Camara, yes he's a good driver but come on look at the points gap between them.
It's a little complicated comparing Antonelli to Aron because of the obvious age difference and Kimi skipping a couple of championships. That's why I didn't compare them too much. If both of them finish in the top 4 this year, that would be a great result.

While I do agree with you that there might be better drivers out there, what I believe Paul has that others lack is quicker adaptability. Every time he jumped to a new series, he's been very quick from the start, sure he didn't win the championships but finishing in top 3 is also a great accomplishment. Plus, the jump to Formula 1 is a big one and quite unpredictable in most cases, drivers who did well in junior categories sometimes struggle a lot to extract the maximum from the car.

And yes, he might not get an F1 seat immediately but a reserve/development role would bring him into the fold and who knows he might get a chance through that.

This F2 season is also impossible to rate given the new cars. Having only 45 minutes to figure the setup for quali, sprint and feature race when you have no data whatsoever would be super hard even for F1 teams. • @steadyeddie2718
    @steadyeddie2718 Месяц назад +1

I agree he deserves a chance, though calling him the next superstar is a bit much, also pretty naive.
When has anyone from a tiny country without any financial backing got into F1? Teams look for money, someone to bring sponsors, or for someone to have massive market value i.e. a potential big follwing. Leclerq doesn't count as all French consider him their own. And he had a backing. Aron is from a country of 1 million with no money to his name.
Also, it seems wins, even if sporadic are valued a lot more than consistent performing at the top end. And wins at a young age seem to bank support from teams for years, even when results then drop, while consistent progression and drivers who develop slower and come good later get overlooked.
I don't agree with any of these warped ideas of who should be considered for an F1 seat, though I'm also biased. But even if Aron wins the Championship (and I think he's more likely to be 2nd or 3rd), I don't think he will get a look in for an F1 seat even then.
It's not always about how good you are in motorsport, it's often more about your background and who you know, which is sad.

Look, comparing him with Kimi is complicated, Kimi has won a lot of regional championships and has also skipped a couple. Even if Paul beats him in the championship this year, it wouldn't feel right to say directly that Paul is better than Kimi because of the age diff and the same goes if Kimi beats him as Kimi drives for Prema with all the backing from Merc.
