Very exclusive trip report! Great footage and useful descriptions. Thank you. One future detail you might like to add is that all of Fiji Airways Twin-Otters are the much newer Viking Air DHC-6-400 Twin Otter. Since 2010 Viking has produced over 100 of this improved aircraft.
@@johneddy908 The recreating of a deHavilland Canada corporation by Longview for the new Bombardier Q400/300/200/100 manufacturing company may have only been the beginning of a total restructuring of Longview into one De Havilland Canada brand. De Havilland is handling the ramp up highering going on in Calgary AB right now. This is presumably for the start of the new CL-515 waterbomber production line. The production rights for the CL-215-415 and now the 515 were part of Viking Air. Does this signal the end of the Vikiing Air brand?
This brings back a few memories. My last flight on an Air Fiji Twin otter was 29/3/1986, plane was DQ-FDK, from Nausori to Nadi, taking 45 minutes, and the trip travelling 67 miles over the mountains. I was in seat 3c. Back then Air Fiji was also running and EMB-110 DQ-PDK which i flew on a few times. I think they were one of the first airlines to get the ATR-42, DQ-FEK which reduced the journey time to 20 minutes. Back in 1985 on my first trip to Fiji, they were running a BAndeirante EMB 30PI, DQ-FDE. Another tiny thing. My last trip out of Fiji back to the UK was on DQ-FEK from Nausori to NAdi, then air NZ 747-200 ZK-NZY from Nadi to Honolulu and on to Los Angeles, then back to the UK but i dont have the proper details of that flight, it wasnt the captain who filled out my log. Happy days flying as a young lad.
I really hope I can get back to Fiji later this year, all dependent on flights from Sydney starting up again. I'd love to do a few more flights on these cool Twin Otters.
greetings from Canada...you see the Twin Otter all over the world...North Pole, South Pole, jungles of Africa, Islands of the South Pacific...an anytime, any day, anywhere kind of plane..I wonder if the new Viking Air model is better than the old one? Faster? More efficient? etc...
Great, and atypical, travel report. The only two-engine turboprop I have ever been on was to get back and forth to Jackson Hole (Wyoming) during family vacations. Jackson Hole is about as different from Polynesia as the moon so looking at all that water, endless water, was a treat. Thanks.
Nice plain looks well maintained and clean...is there a bathroom I know its only an hours but my nervous bladder want make it that far....might be on this next year for my sons wedding ....cant wait to visit
Brand new to Fiji Link, delivered straight from the factory in Canada. Fiji Link purchased 3 brand new DHC-6 400 Series Twin Otters from Viking Air Canada.
Thanks. Yeah I thought this plane ride would have been really bumpy but I was surprised it was quite smooth. Watching these pilots in action, they really earn their money. They were constantly adjusting the throttle and adjusting the steering.
Yep tail end of the wet season in Fiji. It rained most of the 8 days I was in Fiji. 2 cyclones in 2 weeks. Cyclone Josie 1 week ago and a new Cyclone Keni due to hit Fiji later today
Pelly, Nadi is prone to flooding, if you do visit Fiji, visit in November. Any other time the temperatures could be as low as 13 degrees or stormy and rainy weather which could cause widespread flood
Was it too loud? Just want to know because I'm going to fly on a twin otter after lockdown. I'm concerned if the engine sound would hurt my ear... By the way, I see 16 seats.
That airport is like San Jose del Cabo airport SJD, Mexico, where the international terminal is so fancy and bigger with jetways than domestic terminal that sucks.
You sure the airplane is a twin otter? They had a fleet of Harbins for this route since day one. Didn't see any twin otters. I've made this flight a dozen times. Hard to tell the difference, though, unless you look at the airworthiness certificate
then you do not know planes...there is a world of difference between a Harbin and a Twin Otter....probably the reason you do not see a Harbin is that they do not last.....the twin otter is a legend in its longevity and safety record.......signed many miles in a twin otter.....and still flying them today....both float and wheels
@@derrickharvey7487 The easiest way to tell the difference is the Harbins are painted with murals about whales and other aquatic animals. Air Fiji had 5 Harbins and a handful of other types before ending operations a dozen years ago. Even had a four engine low wing DeHavilland for freight operations and a Convair for international flights.
A little bit cloudy today but another tropical disturbance is forming north of Fiji now. Maybe another cyclone on Monday but I fly out tomorrow so I'll miss the second cyclone in a week
No for this flight I didn't get to pick a seat. They allocated it when I checked in. I guess for such a small plane they need to balance the passengers
I’m 6ft7 and a 150kg, there’s no way my big ass would fit in that plane. I probably couldn’t fit through the door to get to the seat in the first place. Hahaha.

I`m glad Air Fiji has chosen the Twin Otters , as they are famously the safest small plane in the skies , cheers and Bula !!
Bulla. I want to go back to Fiji to fly again on the Twin Otter. A really good flying experience
They've have Twin Otters for a while, which were retired beginning 2018 replaced by these new ones.
Air Fiji quit flying in 2009

@@markmezo sooooo... if it was pilot error for most of those accidents, then their statement is still true.
Got to love the turboprop sound. Flew in one of those in the mid 90's at an airshow.
Yeah this is an awesome plane to fly in. It's not pressurized and right next to the engine you hear it roar on take off.
Great flying experience.
Hope you had any fun
Love the Twin Otter. Thanks for uploading this enjoyable flight.

A very nice flying experience and great views over the islands of Fiji. Thanks for watching.
Excellent film footage and sound.

That was fun to watch, beautiful aircraft and scenery
Thank you. The smaller aircraft are really fun to fly in. Really feel like flying compared to the big jets
i used to fly in a twin otter in Bolivia in the 90s...... awsome plane!

4 passengers wont cover the cost of fuel let alone pilots wages
These planes also transport goods to the islands so I guess the cargo fees make up these costs.
