Jet fighters can’t catch up with these planes. God forbids another terror attack no F35 will catch up with it. So I don’t mind if they won’t bring concord back
Thinking about this comment and u realize how absurd it is. The issue wasn't crossing the freakin' pond in 3 hours, but arriving too quickly and the hotel not being ready. 1st world problems indeed. 😄😄😄😄😄😄
@@adhynugroho9424 Actually, that's an issue on almost every NY to London/Paris flight even now. Most of those flights are "red eye" overnight flights that leave NY at night and arrive in London/Paris early the next day. The idea is that one goes directly to the office after sleeping on the flight, not to the hotel.
I'm lucky enough to say I've flown on the Concorde too. My father would work as a courier delivery driver and pick up packages from Heathrow to drop off. Always would talk about Concorde and he loved everything about it. We wasn't rich, quite the opposite.. My mother and father have had so many jobs working hard as they can for my brother and I. The couriering work dried up and he would then take us on trips to watch Concorde take off or land. He would always know the times. He found a new job very soon after searching hard and he heard about a chance to win tickets, he never said a thing to me and my brother. (Brother was 13 and I was 9). Until the day we thought we had school, but instead we had our bags packed and a car journey to Heathrow (which was only about 7 miles away, still 30 mins ish due to traffic) and then we went through the special British airways departure lounge and they took our bags off us and looked and treated us like royalty. My father and mum sat next to a king and his bodyguards whilst I sat next to my brother and a Saudi Prince very young same age as I was roughly. I don't remember much except him giving me a coca cola can which read Arabic writing and a silver foiled chocolate crocodile which was shaped rather amazingly accurate lol. Well I hope you enjoyed this (to whoever reads it). It wad the best experience and seeing the curvature of the earth was something I'll never forget. I love my family!
A crying shame the life of this beautiful aircraft was cut short. Hearing the roar of the engines when it took off, wow just wow. Thank you for posting this.
Aye. Maybe when the boffs come up with some superstrong nanotube maniulation or a green and cheap reliable renewable fuel we might see these birds take wing once again.
I think the roar of the engine is one of the reasons why the Concorde failed. A victim of NIMBY, because no one want to have a sonic boom blasting across the US. Which is also why the US supersonic airliners failed. If we did not have that problem, the Lockheed L-2000 and Boeing 2707 (variable sweep wing version) would have given the Corncorde competition on the world's sexiest supersonic airliner.
It also wasn't very financially viable due to the limited number of seats and extremely high running cost. Tickets for the concorde were outrageously expensive as a result.
I flew BA Concorde as well from JFK to LHR back in 1995. I departed New York around noon and landed in London early evening. It was so strange seeing the curvature of the Earth from up so high. And watching the sun set so rapidly was weird. The service and food were impeccable. I was lucky to visit the cockpit mid-way across the Atlantic. It was an amazing experience. My flight only cost me $1,000 (Australian dollars). I got a really great deal. You described the whole experience perfectly. How lucky we were to experience such a magnificent and majestic aircraft in flight. It's something I will never forget!
@A_B_sHrekNiCLsN This is the dumbest thing I've read, also confirmation that your yammering has nothing to do with the original post about the Concorde's engineering.
I flew on it six times. It was sheer joy. You were pushed back in your seat on takeoff from the acceleration. The other thing I remember was how they cleared the runways to give it priority, and how you got your luggage immediately upon arrival and then they had a limo to take you to where you were going (I only flew the NY-Paris route). The food was fabulous and the wine was all vintage. How I miss it!
You can't hear the sonic boom from inside a supersonic plane for the simple reason that when you go supersonic, you're *outrunning* the sound of that sonic boom. It can never catch up to you.
@@D35tr0you'd have to slow down quickly, before the shockwaves dissipates, and slow enough so it has a chance to catch up. I'm an aeronautics engineer and to the best of my knowledge not even a fighter jet has that kind of maneuverability. The pilot would also take a lot of G's, probably too much. But in theory it's possible.
Happy 50th. Great video! I never got to fly in a Concorde but have an interesting story to go with it. I was a corporate pilot back in the 80’s flying a Corporate BAC 1-11 and we would fly from LAX to JFK and drop the boss off at the BA terminal. He would then board the Concorde and fly to London. We would then get the plane ready for a flight the next day and fly to London, sometimes empty, so He could use the plane while there. This happened only a few times. I was privileged to have had a private tour of the Concorde while it sat at the terminal. Like the Concorde, I too am retired.
Great insight like this makes up for all the stupid negative yt comments! Thanks for sharing Rich, and great channel Sam, just found it and cant believe the access you get - this is fantastic!
She used to fly over my house every evening at 6.30pm as she went into land at Heathrow. I really miss her elegance and grace. No other passenger aircraft has come near her. I wish BA would bring the one at Heathrow indoors. Its such a shame to see her rust outdoors. :(
R m Our friends in London also live close to the AirPort so when We were there i watched all the planes who came in from Canada,USA etc in the morning👍😀
@@SamChui I really wish they would have put her in Terminal 5 when they built it so that as you checked in you had Concorde there as you walked in. Such a missed opportunity.
My grandfather was actually one of the engineers who worked on Concorde. I witnessed my grandparents fly on Concorde back in the early 2000's, prior to it being decomissioned. I wish one day, Concorde 2.0 will be a thing so we can all experience it.
I've watched many of your videos Sam, but this is by far my favourite. You are one lucky man to have flown aboard this beautiful bird . I almost felt emotional when the nose was dipped at the end , that aircraft shouldn't be on the ground in a museum , she deserves to be up there at 58,000 feet ! Thank you for an amazing feature.
I remember sometime in the 90's when I first saw the Concorde flew over Kingston Jamaica. It was so loud and powerful it caused household appliances to be damaged or destroyed all together. It was a sight to remember
Just read your comment from a couple years ago. That must've been amazing. I'm a producer at NPR and I'm working on a series about Concorde. I'd love to include your memory of the plane flying over Kingston. If by chance you see this, feel free to send me an email. I have my email address listed on my RUclips page in the "About" section. Thank you for sharing!
Well done Sam I also flew the Concord and tried the simulator itwas very exciting I was 29 years old in 1975 unfortunately I cannot fly anymore as I am well into my pension years, so go for it while you sn Sam and enjoy every moment of it. Thank you for your very interesting beautiful videos. Thank you so much Annie
God, by FAR the most beautiful airplane to take to the skies. What a marvelous piece of engineering for the era. We’ll get back to supersonic passenger flight someday.
Your videos are superb and very informative. Thank you for them, however this video is the gem, the pearl. Your confidence and memory of that special flight creates a taste for us that never had the privilege of flying Concorde. Well done Sam. I really really enjoyed this one.
@@maxanstey3769 Ofc no nigga, but those 100 people died after thousands of people flew on that prior to that accident. Airbus and Boeing got thousands of deaths on their planes anyways
My grandpa flew from NYC to Paris in this plane some several decades ago. Said it was an amazing experience and that planes today are much slower and worse.
Thank You Sam for a WONDERFUL VIDEO!! Everything You presented highlighted the difference in traveling by Concorde SST. Non-stop firsts in air travel, which haven’t been repeated since. Your video is Extremely well made, educational, and quite emotional. Thank You Sir!!!
I remember seeing the concord flying over the National Mall in Washington DC from Dulles on July 4th 1976, America's Bicentennial. You've had the privilege to have flown on the Concorde, and I admire you for that. The Concorde was and still is a great aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
The reason why you don't hear the Sonic Boom inside the aircraft is because you are travelling at the speed of sound and going past it. Henceforth, you are within the cone of the sonic boom, you need to be behind the aircraft to hear it.
More correctly, to hear the boom you have to have the cone of the shock front pass you. Both you in the supersonic aircraft and the shock front cone(s) generated by your aircraft are travelling at the same speed. However, parts of the cone(s) may impinge on the aircraft itself, which is most important in the intakes to the engines; by varying the geometry of the inlets, the shock front is used to compress the air and slow it down, increasing the power of the engines. Of course, you don't hear a boom in the aircraft; instead parts of it experience strong pressure effects. This was the "compressibility" phenomenon encountered by diving WWII fighters approaching the speed of sound ... the air becomes supersonic above the wing before the aircraft as a whole exceeds the speed of sound. And the shock front generated by the leading edge of the horizontal stabiliser makes conventional trailing edge elevators useless at transonic speed... a flying stab is needed. This was a crucial breakthrough which was conveyed by the British to the US and allowed the Bell X-1 to break the sound barrier; it was promptly incorporated into the design of the F-86 Sabre and all subsequent transonic or supersonic aircraft. The Shuttle had two tremendous booms ; I was once in the basement of a very solid old building in Pasadena, CA, as the shuttle descended to Edwards AFB; the whole building shook. I believe that the Falcon 9 first stage generates a triple boom before landing. Blunt bodies like that generate powerful shock fronts when passing through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds.
This aircraft was an icon in my childhood (even though I never got to see one fly unfortunately) , I loved planes all throughout my childhood and even 10 years on from its retirement everyone know what is it and just how Iconic it will always be - even non-aviation enthusiasts. I still have a mode Concorde on my shelf and it will never leave. My love for planes and modes of transport in general is largely thanks to the Concorde. It was truly, and quite literally, ahead of its time! Thank you Concorde, forever.
I just saw one of the Concordes at Heathrow; such a magnificent plane! My mom had the opportunity to fly on the Concorde back in the day and she always tells me about how Paul McCartney was seated in front of her. We still have a box of Concorde matches prominently displayed in the kitchen cabinet! I really hope the current project from Boeing becomes a reality and we can start flying supersonic again!
Hey, it’s called the AS2 and they’re saying it’ll take off a n 2023. www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/02/05/boeing-aerion-supersonic-jet.html
Dont get your hopes up with Boeing as the supersonic plane developed is just a VIP taxi for the rich elites, as it only accommodates 12 passengers, that is pathetic and sad to say the least. I hope Boom Technology becomes successful as that is the aircraft we normal folk will be able to fly in.
Buying and upgrading one will be the ish. Imagine 1. Windowless fuselage 2. Glass cockpit 3. No flight engineer 4. Supersonic turbofan no afterburner 5. Business jet seating for 75 passengers + 5 cabin crew 6. Better noise proofing. 7. Cameras for pilots 8. Glass simulator windows. 9. No droop nose 10. Modern safety features
In 2002/2003 I worked at JFK and had the privilege of witnessing several takeoffs and landings of Concorde. An unforgettable experience. While conventional aircraft do a slow climb, Concorde practically leaped into the air with her after burners screaming so loud that it set off the car alarms! Will never forget it.
My cousin was the 1st woman pilot to fly Concorde and was a regular pilot for 10years until it retired in October 2003 Only 2 woman flew Concorde regularly Captain Barbara Harmer for BA and 1st Pilot Bèatrice Vialle for Air France Jacqueline Auriol was the first lady test Pilot. 3 Women in total flew this beauty 😉
@@WhitmeisterG Thank you and yes Barbara's Dad Roy was my Grandad Stanley's Brother xx My Grandparents moved to Wales so I met Roy and his wife a few times in the late 80s early 90s, (it guts me I can not remember her name) when I travelled down in my younger years to visit my Grandparents as they too lived in Wales. I met Barbara a few times in 1998 when my Grandad was very poorly and she paid her respects to him at the hospital, Barbara was a very busy lady and so big respect to her for doing that and she was there for his funeral in August 1998. I was carrying my 2nd child who was poorly in my belly was born Nov 1998 but sadly died April 1999. Although I met Barbara for what I can remember just a few times she will always remain an inspiration to me. My Mum did not tell me about Barbara's death or when or where her funeral was as I would have gone. My 13yr old wants to be a pilot and I have told him all about her. My Mum's brother was in the RAF taught people how to mend helicopters and retired working for the Sutan of Brunei just a few years ago. My thoughts also go out to Barbara's family, she had 3 sisters. I did write in the obituary in the Times news paper and opted to get updates, and I did receive a message from the family thanking me, silly I never remained in contact life goes like that when you have a young family. As a child my parents split so we lost contact with a lot of my Mum's side of the family as I grew up with my Dad, but my Dad remained close friends with my Mum's parents until my Grandad's death in 1998 and my Dad's death in 2000.
I'm three years late to the party, but this video gave me goosebumps. 🥰When I was a small child, I witnessed the Concorde land at Heathrow and once saw it takeoff at Humberside Airport when the runway was extended (it was a whole family outing), and the noise, smell and heat were unbelievable. I was totally heartbroken when they took these planes out of service as it was my dream to fly in one. 😊
I used to live in NY and remember seeing the Concord fly over my house I grew up in on a regular basis sinse the flight pattern of JFK was right over my home. I always thought it was the coolest thing to see such an aircraft fly over and not be the usual 747 or 767 or other airliners that would fly over. I remember the first time I saw one fly over, I thought it was the Space Shuttle and remembering telling my mother in excitement and then she telling me "No... That is the Concorde." The last one I saw fly over was when I was only about 3 miles from JFK and saw one coming in for a landing and it flew right over my head when I was visiting my grandparants in Queens NY.
It uses a lot of fuel. When they retired it, a ticket on one of those was around $5000 one way. I'd like them to bring it back as well but it's not something the general public are willing to pay for, which is largely the reason they no longer fly. There's not enough of a market to justify keeping them in service
Yes, this BOOM company is trying to bring supersonic commercial flight back into the game, and it’s definitely not cheap to research, design, and develop a plane that has that capability and it’s also profitable, the thing is that the Concorde was not the plane that could take us there, actually AirFrance claims that they ran the Concorde on red numbers for some time but kept it due to a national pride thing I guess. The Concorde swallowed fuel as crazy, was small which increased the amount of fuel per passenger used, didn’t have the best design for commercial use either, as the fuel tanks where directly behind the tires, the Concorde actually had several incidents due to tire bursting debris damaging fuel tanks and engines it was just a matter of time for what happened to happen.
Mr Nightmare23 Not much of a problem actually, not that it was impractical. Frankly everybody would love to hear them if they aren’t much louder than the jets themselves. And frankly it would be kinda cool to have longer gaps between aircraft drones.
Once again another great video, I am almost 60 years old and remember as a school boy in the UK being fascinated by Concorde. Most Brits are very proud of Concorde and rightly so.
@@energybengt Not true. Punctuality and fuel burn were not the concern of ATC. They were given an airborne slot time and planned the taxi from their gate to keep ground time to a minimum.
I love this video. The Concorde is a masterpiece and a marvel of engineering. There are supersonic plans coming back slowly so I hope we get commercial supersonic airframes!
I was a aircraft mechanic work on boeing and airbus jet.now i become a helicopter pilot.i like your video very much.happy to see those old pictures.thanks for share with us
One accident and they grounded Concorde. Man ,this had to be so maddening for those that flew her. I use to catch her flying out of Dulles Airport in Virginia, such beautiful lines.
The Concorde was definetly majestic and her afterburners were even hoter then Merlin Monroe. But here the proud ends. Due to the high speeds the fusalage streches up to about 1ft during supersonic flights. That drasticaly reduced the lifespan of the plane. And the speed also caused high fuelconsumption that was three times higher then that of the Boeing747-100. The afterburners of the turbojetengines created huge noise pollution. The high flightaltitude and the the fuelconsumption also could cause poor damage on the ozone layer. And the supersonic-boom limited Cocordes serviceability to routes above the ocean. The Concorde was "desinged" to lose.
@Andy O'tam No.The problems I metioned were had caused her to end. And Jets execute supersonic flights for only a few minutes compared to the Concorde that flew for three hours. So on an avarage route above the land it would cross to many cities and cause too much damage. A jet crosses much less cities and du to their flexability they could fly around high populated areas. Concorde couldn't. And I'm sure that even jets get complains from citizens.
Le petrole est trop cher aujourd hui. Et les sieges n etaient pas comfortables compares à ceux des avions recents. Pour 5000 euros de nos jours tu as un lit
To think Concorded did what it did 50 years ago makes me think how much more improved a new supersonic plane could be, I imagine it could hold way more passengers, be much more efficient as well with all the technology there is now
There's no way around the fact that drag increases exponentially as airspeed increases. That is true even for the most aerodynamic and ideal shape possible.
sure they can - there's just unfortunately no market for it so it's not worth the money - especially with the advent of the internet bigshot ceo business types no longer need to travel quickly between continents to attend meetings - and so a big demographic keeping the concorde afloat dried up@@dennisdbc2386
@@yurydanilov4051 and likes to have frame failures. It was so bad and unreliable that Aeroflot didn't even want it. They were forced to use it for a few flights before even the Russians gave up. Hell no, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a 144...
I flew Concorde in January 1997 from London to New York. I remember leaving London at 7 pm and landing at JFK at 5:50 pm. As we flew, I looked out my window and while we had left Heathrow in the dark, as we approached NY, I could see sunlight in the distand and we landed at dusk, having won back some sunlight. It was unforgettable.
Great to have learnt more about the Concorde, thanks to you DEAR SAM........ Actually, I always follow your flying VIDEOS, You have and you are still doing a GREAT job, for us to know, , to see what goes on in the Skies.......... God Bless you all the way whenever u fly............
Long long ago, while working as a 911 NYC Paramedic, in a detail supporting the Secret Service, I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to drive up to and really get an up close view of a Concorde (on our way over to where Air Force One would drop off our dignitary). Thank you Sam for this wonderful look at the inside.
Lando Calrissian the Concorde did fly around 70,000ft. Around 60,000ft. My dad flew on it once and said that he saw the curve once they were at cruising altitude
It is not like that, dumb, I see that you are not looking for information in anything, there was a tycoon in the 70s, a gross millionaire who made a trip in concorde precisely to see the "curve" of the planet (look, it is "planet" of "plane") and HE COULDN'T SEE ANY CURVATURE SHIT, THEN SUE AIR FRANCE AND WON THE LAWSUIT, Air France had to pay him a lot of money in the lawsuit and the Concorde Consortium REMOVED THE PROPAGAND THAT FROM ITS AIRPLANES IT COULD SEE THE CURVATURE OF THE EARTH DID YOU KNOW THAT? SURE NOT HAHAHAHHA It is good to first find out before BELIEVING what the media and "science" tell you, because if you BELIEVE then it is RELIGION, and SCIENCE IS NOT RELIGION, but the current "science" needs your BELIEF to confirm itself hahaha, JUST TAKE A LOOK HOW PATHETIC IS THAT XD
@@masonmtb7 Well, dude, in the 70s NASA said that from the shore of the beach you could see the curvature of the earth, but later in the 80s they said that you could see it from a high hill, in the 90s they said that you could only see it From the highest mountains, in the 2000s they said that only from an airplane at 10,000 meters you could see the curvature, but from 2015 onwards they said that the curvature could ONLY BE SEEN FROM 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT, tell me what happens to the NASA, what decade by decade increases the height of the curvature of the Earth? it is simple, THE NEW INSTRUMENTS TO WHICH PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS, HIGH POWER PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERAS IN THEIR LENSES, VERY POWERFUL TELESCOPES AT VERY LOW PRICE ETC, NASA was forced to RAISE THE APPRECIATION HEIGHT OF THE CURVE because THE CURVE DOES NOT EXIST, it is that simple, because if NASA kept what it said regarding the appreciation of the curve then EVERYONE WOULD REALIZE THAT NASA LIES because they would have THEIR OWN VISUAL AND GRAPHIC TESTIMONIALS TO PROVE IT So what better way to put the height of the appreciation of the earth's curve OUT OF YOUR REACH? DO YOU HAVE A WAY TO CLIMB TO THE 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT TO CHECK THE EARTH CURVE? NO, unless you manage to climb to that height so DON'T HURRY TOO MUCH TO "BELIEVE" WHAT NASA TELLS YOU because science DOES NOT NEED YOUR BELIEF because SCIENCE CANNOT BE RELIGION and NASA LIES
Concorde always had priority. I worked at Heathrow airport when Concorde was operating and no matter where you were you could hear Concorde take off. You can't hear the sonic boom on Concorde because you are flying faster than it.
Not quite right. You can't hear the sonic boom because you are flying *with* it. When a plane travels faster than sound, a shock wave in the shape of a cone develops around the nose of the plane. A sonic boom occurs when this shockwave passes over an observer on the ground. But if you are in the plane, you are travelling at the speed of the shockwave, so it can never pass over you.
My grandfather flew in Concorde! I always wanted to fly on her, but never got it done. Hopefully some of the new supersonic aircraft in development will actually make it to production!
Flying supersonic is ecologically unsustainable for now, that's why we should not fly supersonic with passenger aircraft. In the remote future, we might fly supersonic again, but then in a sustainable and most likely also profitable manner. The Concorde stands symbolically for the wastefulness of the post-war area and will seem as crazy as steam engines to future generations.
Si_Vis_Pacem Para_Bellum my company lost most of the executives on 9/11 who flew NY to London on Concorde. We had executives on Concorde nearly every working day and on Sunday afternoons. Those days are long gone.
Thats where stoopid gets stoopider. Because "they" dont realise that you can only cut so many corners and milk somthing before you stop making profit. People will pay and will pay more for value and qaulity. Scams will only put food on the table for so long.
Today - June 3, 2021 - United Airlines announced that they ordered 15 new supersonic jets to be built by American start-up Boom Supersonic, to be completed by the year 2029, pending U.S. government approval. The model is the "Overture", and is expected to be the Concorde's direct successor. Testing will begin in 2025-2026.
Call me petty but I find the name ‘Boom’ is pretty dumb for an aircraft. It doesn’t have that majestic feeling and pizzazz of an industry changing aircraft.
I went on a tour of the concorde at manchester airport for my dad's birthday, it was amazing. I sat in the seat where the duke would have sat. We also had a look at the cockpit. Every part of the concorde is amazing and we will remember her FOREVER❤
I had the SUPREME aviation experience when flying CONCORDE on August 5th 1992 from London to JFK. Absolutely thrilling...and my husband and I dined onboard the ENTIRE time. The courses were perfectly timed from appetizers to desserts...finishing right before landing. Six Courses. Unbelievable. I remember crying when I heard the CONCORDE was DONE. What a SHAME.
Blame Boeing for crying cuz their engineers were too demanding and heavy unions that kept their design from comming to reality. I doubt we would go superso ic considering that Bpeing wont let go of their unions.
because it's much more economical & safe to fly at 500 than mach 2. general public can not afford many such mach 2 flights, but they can afford 500mph flights when they need.
@Roborav hypersonic is way too expensive and technologies aren't ready for global use. Supersonic is the future. Hypersonic will only replace current 12h+ flights.
@Roborav I didn't say the technologies aren't there. They are very expensive and building them to not sell or only servicing a few rich people is just pointless from a manufacturer's view.
@Roborav Companies won't buy hypersonic planes if there is too few demand or if the operation costs are too high (making prices high, reducing demand as of the time). These planes will remain very exclusive until supersonic travel reaches its limit (currently happening with jet planes). Then everyone will rush on it, like supersonic right now.
@Roborav I'm not negative at all. It's because of you stupid drunk childish that we are wasting billions into unreallistic projects that bankrupt companies and make this amazing thing to fail. Better developing and improving the technologies first to get more planes of the type flying at the same time, securing the sector by reducing the costs thanks to the number. Hypersonic planes still a fancy thing on paper and won't come before the 2040s. Supersonic will come first and will have the main part of the market. As i said, only current very long flights will be replaced by hypersonic. I'm not complaining, i'm realistic. It's just unavoidable that developing supersonic first is much better as will create demand for hypersonic and serve as tests for future hypersonic planes. You want a plane just for the symbol, don't you?
All because installing extra redundancy sensors for the MCAS would have required extra training for the pilots and they wanted to save money. No expense was saved for the Concorde.
You are very lucky to have flown on her! I lived in London whilst Concorde was still flying, and often heard the "boom" when I was out in the garden. Happy days!
I think it's really cool that you actually flew the Concorde and are telling us about your experience! 3 hours across the Atlantic, wow. It must have been expensive. one thing, though, no matter how fast you go, it i snot possible to return through time. Even if you get to a place where the time zone is set to an "earlier" time in the day, if the flight takes 3 hours, you'll still be 3 hours later when you deplane. And if the flight toojk 1 second, you'd be 1 second later, You're still on the time from the time zone you departed, not the one you arrived, so the "taken back time" is only an illusion. I guess if one only travelled West ward for the rest of their life they would have that impression that they gain time every day, but they would be aging like everybody else, and if you called someone on the phone after deplaning, you wouldn't be talking to an earlier version of themselves. Time only travels forward, never back, no matter your geographical position, or spatial speed. 😉 If that makes sense 💜
i highly recommend the brooklands museum, everything to see from a london bus collection to racing cars, from racing bikes to planes, it has it all and for cheap.
Thank you for sharing you story. This is one of the aircraft, I'll never have a chance to fly on, but the emotional you way you talk about your experience helps me realize what it would've been like :)
Amazing video Sam, thank you for sharing! I've been a Concorde fan my whole life, and visited the first flying Concorde at Duxford many times. I learned a lot of interesting facts from the tour portion of your video that I never knew before. Thank you.
Sam, you should come to India to try out the limited Vistara retro flights. It takes you back to 1960 when TATA airlines operated which is now Air India. The flights are also coloured authentically.
Glad to see this video! I lived in Caracas between 1977 and 1979 and in one opportunity my dad took me to see the concorde landing at the Simon Bolivar airport in Maiquetia. It was a regular flight from Paris with Air France. Amazing airplane and very elegant! Thanks Sam for this awesome video.
Thank you for a trip down memory lane. I flew on Concorde around the same time. And the flight crew was generous with the champagne. I remember that the checkin staff took our coats so we wouldn’t haven’t to be bothered with them during boarding. What a magnificent flight.
It’s great to see two planes have their first flight between each other like the 747 flight was on January 1969 and Concorde was on 1969 March. (Nice number by the way)
How does that make sense? If the technology was already available, and this was possible back then what makes you think it's not possible now? It's not like we've burnt all the research and killed all the people who worked on the project.. Basically, the thing that killed the Concord was the crash that happened. Regulations came in, yada yada.. Not to mention the cost of running that airplane, the tickets would be too expensive at this stage for it to be a viable solution to air travel, not many people would be able to afford a ticket. There will be similar, even better aircraft in the near future.
My dream growing up, right to my 30's was to fly Concorde London to New York, then sail the QE2 from New York back to the UK. Sadly, a dream that will never come true.
That was great, thank you. I can't believe that next year will mark its 20th year of retirement. I've sat on the Concorde in the USS INTREPID Museum in NYC,but thanks.to your video I'm going to plan a trip to Brooklands and get on board the simulator. 😉👍
My Granddad got upgraded to a Concorde when flying from JFK to London. The 747 he was supposed to fly on was diverted so he was moved to this flight instead.
@@MingGongcoolmango71 Well he actually arrived a few hours earlier than he would have on the 747. My Dad told me he showed up home early and they were confused until he explained, my Nan still has the ticket and menu from the flight.

Most of those flights are "red eye" overnight flights that leave NY at night and arrive in London/Paris early the next day. @@alliejr Oh wow. I honestly didn't know that. Thanks man. But that sounds really unpleasant for business flyers flying coach with tight deadlines.

You're out running the sound wave that is the boom. The ships hear it cause their not going faster than sound
You'd think 50 years later, super sonic passenger travel would have been standard for everyone.
It uses a lot of fuel. When they retired it, a ticket on one of those was around $5000 one way. I'd like them to bring it back as well but it's not something the general public are willing to pay for, which is largely the reason they no longer fly. There's not enough of a market to justify keeping them in service
Got to take into account the constant sonic booms
It became unprofitable when the oil price increased.

Not much of a problem actually, not that it was impractical. Frankly everybody would love to hear them if they aren’t much louder than the jets themselves. And frankly it would be kinda cool to have longer gaps between aircraft drones.

Not the reason.
I'm French, too young to fly with the Concorde, hope we'll be able to make supersonic flights again soon ! Fantastic machine! 😉
@Andy O'tam
No.The problems I metioned were had caused her to end.

To think Concorded did what it did 50 years ago makes me think how much more improved a new supersonic plane could be, I imagine it could hold way more passengers, be much more efficient as well with all the technology there is now
And much safer! If we continued to pursue this technology instead of largely abandon it
There's no way around the fact that drag increases exponentially as airspeed increases. That is true even for the most aerodynamic and ideal shape possible.

@@masonmtb7 Well, dude, in the 70s NASA said that from the shore of the beach you could see the curvature of the earth, but later in the 80s they said that you could see it from a high hill, in the 90s they said that you could only see it From the highest mountains, in the 2000s they said that only from an airplane at 10,000 meters you could see the curvature, but from 2015 onwards they said that the curvature could ONLY BE SEEN FROM 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT, tell me what happens to the NASA, what decade by decade increases the height of the curvature of the Earth?
it is simple, THE NEW INSTRUMENTS TO WHICH PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS, HIGH POWER PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERAS IN THEIR LENSES, VERY POWERFUL TELESCOPES AT VERY LOW PRICE ETC, NASA was forced to RAISE THE APPRECIATION HEIGHT OF THE CURVE because THE CURVE DOES NOT EXIST, it is that simple, because if NASA kept what it said regarding the appreciation of the curve then EVERYONE WOULD REALIZE THAT NASA LIES because they would have THEIR OWN VISUAL AND GRAPHIC TESTIMONIALS TO PROVE IT
So what better way to put the height of the appreciation of the earth's curve OUT OF YOUR REACH? DO YOU HAVE A WAY TO CLIMB TO THE 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT TO CHECK THE EARTH CURVE? NO, unless you manage to climb to that height
so DON'T HURRY TOO MUCH TO "BELIEVE" WHAT NASA TELLS YOU because science DOES NOT NEED YOUR BELIEF because SCIENCE CANNOT BE RELIGION
and NASA LIES
One of the most beautiful video. This plane was a dream. Thank you Sam
Concorde always had priority. I worked at Heathrow airport when Concorde was operating and no matter where you were you could hear Concorde take off.
You can't hear the sonic boom on Concorde because you are flying faster than it.
Hi
Vulcan is my favourite
Not quite right. You can't hear the sonic boom because you are flying *with* it. When a plane travels faster than sound, a shock wave in the shape of a cone develops around the nose of the plane. A sonic boom occurs when this shockwave passes over an observer on the ground. But if you are in the plane, you are travelling at the speed of the shockwave, so it can never pass over you.
My grandfather flew in Concorde! I always wanted to fly on her, but never got it done. Hopefully some of the new supersonic aircraft in development will actually make it to production!
I flew on Concorde twice. The whole experience was amazing.
I second that, having been twice myself. It was awesome and something I am never going to forget.
@@notconvinced245Why think that
Too bad, we probably will never be able to fly supersonic again.. back then it was an era for technological advancement, today is the era for profit.
What about tomorrow?... things change. Never is forever no. And NOTHING is forever.
You have nailed it!!!!!
How come they'll approve this, I know, simply because it's American. So butthurt
Call me petty but I find the name ‘Boom’ is pretty dumb for an aircraft. It doesn’t have that majestic feeling and pizzazz of an industry changing aircraft.
Boom kinda seems on the nose. A better name would be Peregrine, because they're the fastest birds.
@@wattson451 X8 or somethnig like this is gonna be call
We shall see. I bet this slips or never happens, but I am glad to be wrong. I want to fly supersonic again.
I went on a tour of the concorde at manchester airport for my dad's birthday, it was amazing. I sat in the seat where the duke would have sat. We also had a look at the cockpit. Every part of the concorde is amazing and we will remember her FOREVER❤
I was fortunate to fly aboard Concorde, too. My first flight was 27 March 1998 from LHR to JFK. Unforgettable. 😃
I had the SUPREME aviation experience when flying CONCORDE on August 5th
1992 from London to JFK. Absolutely thrilling...and my husband and I
dined onboard the ENTIRE time. The courses were perfectly timed from
appetizers to desserts...finishing right before landing. Six Courses.
Unbelievable. I remember crying when I heard the CONCORDE was DONE. What
a SHAME.
1975 were flying at Mach 2!
2019 were flying at 500 mph!
Oh wait back then we went Mach 2 really good progress if you ask me
Concord, though cool was expensive and the sonic booms made huge inconveniences to the people nearby...
We fly so slow today because it's way more efficient. Essentially hyper-miling a passenger jet.
2050: Flying at 300
Blame Boeing for crying cuz their engineers were too demanding and heavy unions that kept their design from comming to reality. I doubt we would go superso ic considering that Bpeing wont let go of their unions.
because it's much more economical & safe to fly at 500 than mach 2. general public can not afford many such mach 2 flights, but they can afford 500mph flights when they need.
Flew Concorde with my Dad in 1994, London - NY. Best flight of my life! I was 18 years old ;)
Supersonic planes will make a return someday.
@Roborav Megasonic!!!!
Meanwhile 20 years later we have Boeing planes that nosedive themselves into the ground.
Yasmine Odelbrink
50*
Yeah its sad
Ik its wrong but bruh 💀💀
*rip 737 max MCAS
All because installing extra redundancy sensors for the MCAS would have required extra training for the pilots and they wanted to save money. No expense was saved for the Concorde.
LMAOO
It is very disappointing that we can't fly on concorde today😪
@@benjaminyang7318 nothing is economical tho
@@jingola11 a320 neo series must be new to you
It's very good concode aren't flying. Otherwise we were living in much more problems.
You are very lucky to have flown on her! I lived in London whilst Concorde was still flying, and often heard the "boom" when I was out in the garden. Happy days!
I really can't get over how amazing Concord is. Emotional
😉 If that makes sense 💜
an unforgettable experience what a joy have been a ride on the ultimate passenger jet
i highly recommend the brooklands museum, everything to see from a london bus collection to racing cars, from racing bikes to planes, it has it all and for cheap.
The experience of a lifetime. Conrats and thank you for the excellent review
Don't worry comrades, we're currently making our own concorde that will be a part of the Air Koryo fleet soon
Supreme leader offer me privilege to fly in your flight..
lmao I see you everywhere
Kim, get offline, you're taking away your fellow countrymen and womens' last remaining electricity 😄.
AirKorYoYo!
Can't you just borrow the TU-144 from russia?
Flat Earthers: The Earth is flat! NASA has been lying to us!
Concorde: Hold my beer.
You mean hold my sonic boom.
*hold my snoop droop*
@Brandon Clarke If I can see the curve in an A321 then you can probably see it on the concord.
@Brandon Clarke So you're saying Delta Airlines put a projection screen on the window?
No you mean hold my crusing altitude,my afterburners, and every space program in the world
Glad to see this video!
(Nice number by the way)
but … you didn't get so your 69s in check, lol
Thank you for shearing your Concorde experience 👍🇦🇺
58000 ft? And crossing the Atlantic in less than 4 hours???!!? WOW 😲
2 Hours 52 Minutes and 59 Seconds was the record for JFK-LHR
And without afterburners in cruise!
@V R Typical in the air for about 3:20. About 4 hours in the timetable, with the extra being allowance for taxi times.
Even though technology is insane today , they still can’t replicate such an amazing machine!
Eshaan Sharma
Sharma ji
believe me they can
like boeing they’re just trying to come up with a better version.
Actually we have the technology, the rising fuel cost is the real issue today and that’s one of the reasons why Concorde isn’t flying anymore
Miss Concord it used to pass over my house in the channel islands , I could hear it break the sound barrier
With a loud bang !
The reason you can’t hear the sonic boom in the plane is because the aircraft is traveling faster than the sound of the boom.
That is not the reason. The plane is still within the Mach cone when cruising, you can only hear a sonic boom if you are outside of the Mach cone.
mrcannotfindaname Ok thank you for the info.
I dont think thats the reason.
Matt Yamamoto Then please tell us what it is
The jet escapes from the sonic boom it has created.
Only time I ever saw a concorde was on a bus looking up. Was a small kid at the time
I live really close to brooklands and ive been in the Concorde there twice and it truly is magical. Definitely worth going there!
My Granddad got upgraded to a Concorde when flying from JFK to London. The 747 he was supposed to fly on was diverted so he was moved to this flight instead.
What a lucky guy!
What a lucky
Wow I would love for my original flight to have been cancelled.
would be hilarious if the Concorde got him to London before his original 747 did haha
@@MingGongcoolmango71 Well he actually arrived a few hours earlier than he would have on the 747. My Dad told me he showed up home early and they were confused until he explained, my Nan still has the ticket and menu from the flight.
