I was like “who is this Barrios?” Only to discover he was low key the greatest guitarist to ever live. Mangoré is the reason I play to this day.
For me this is the correct tempo. It is often too fast. This speed allows all the melodic lines to be explored. I stand amazed at the technical brilliance of all who can play this beautiful piece of music at what ever speed. I certainly can't!
There's a surviving recording of Barrios himself playing this and it's ridiculously fast! Although it's said he played it so fast so it could fit on the record, given the limitation of the recording media back then
Having played this piece for my high school senior recital, it truly baffles me how he has made it seem so effortless in this performance. This has got to be one of the most technically demanding pieces of repertoire I have ever played and he has managed to pull it off with such grace and elegance, exactly the way it should sound. Bravo

Great players makes a demanding piece like this look smooth and easy to play. While this is indeed a truly badass piece of music for guitar. Moreover played at the correct (in my opinion) speed, not in a frenetic way, as too many technically endowed players do. Compliments.
I´ve been playing the guitar since I can think. I started when I was 5 years old and now I´m 19. I could performed "La Catedral" in a concert lately and Mr. Petrou´s version of this piece is without a doubt my favorite one. It lacks all the unnecessary exagerations all the other versions I know include but doesn´t fail to convey the core message of this song (of course all of this is only my honest opinion). Learning this section of La Catedral and I simply couldn’t fathom how people play it! Your movements are so clean, it really helps visualize how the piece is supposed to look! I honestly place this piece on the same difficulty level as Asturias

This is natural classical guitar! It helped me a lot in my humble efforts to play this piece, specially in the second part where you avoid the pestanas that almost everybody play, which makes the music feel heavy and unnatural. Besides, the quasi inexistence of jumps makes the music so fluid and seem effortless. Greetings from Brazil. I became a big fond of you!
@@jamesrawlings5781 A pestana is made when press we all or part of the guitar stings in a certain fret with the index finger. I'm not sure about the English name (my translator says "eyelash"). I always try to avoid them because of an index finger injury. Hope it helped you,
I'm trying to learn this piece. It's actually not as difficult as it seems, but to play it as well as this in such a relaxed manner is a great achievement. I like that it's not played at a breakneck speed. Other guitarists try to do that and it loses the musicality of the piece. This one keeps it. bravo!

I'm just familiarizing with this style but it's so obvious that you stand out, like Michelangeli did among pianists. No pretentious rubatos, just pure discipline.
Such a tricky movement to play well. It's nice to hear that others find it tricky. A pro at the top of their game makes it look easy...that was smooth.
