John Williams returns to the Gothic Palace to play one of the most celebrated virtuoso compositions for guitar: Asturias from Suite Española by Albeniz, a musical impression of the region on the northern coast of Spain. The Halls of Carlos V, as they are known today, were first remodeled in the thirteenth century and have had a connection with all Spanish monarchs to the present time. The royal family maintains the tradition by retaining a suite of private apartments in the Alcazar for use during their visits to Seville.
Did you know that world-famous guitarist John Williams and filmmaker Christopher Nupen studied classical guitar together and that Andrés Segovia was their teacher? Discover more in this documentary by Christopher Nupen about his colleague and friend on @allegrofilms : • John Williams at Ronni...

A person isn't just born with a talent like this. Can you imagine the dedication to develop it, though? That is I admire.
Talents makes the start easier.
Passion makes the journey enjoyable.
Hard Work makes the result totally worth it!
A lot of people say “you have a natural gift” and I’m like “you know how much time I’ve spent practicing, rather than going out or watching tv?”
@@chrisdavies5199 You know what i'm talking about. There's a quote from the movie August Rush and it's by Robin William's character, he said " you got to love Music more than food"
His mother was a music teacher.
You have good insight. I play the same style. This is the culmination of years of dedication detail and passion.
Simply the finest rendition I've heard. Even some masters sound a bit rushed at times. Not John Williams. Perfection.
After almost 10 Years, I finally found it!
My Guitar teacher used to always play this song, and i was always fascinated because she would play it when i would get frustrated about not changing chords fast enough or always having to look at my hand and she played that song, with her eyes closed and told me that for her to be able to do so she had to practice for years.
I hope she's doung well ❤
Can u please tell me if he s playing a Classic or acoustic guitar?
@@__GDS__he is playing classical, he is one of the most renowned players in the world
@__GDS__ He is playing a classical guitar, which is an acoustic (non-electric) guitar with nylon strings, as opposed to the steel string acoustic guitar and the steel string Electric guitar.
It's incredible that this exists. Glad I didn't die without hearing it.
It sounds perfectly like España.
I can see its streets, pueblos, roads through Castilla la Mancha.
Que me falta, Dio!
This country has a soul, so unique and beautiful, you can even sense it in its great music.
Viva la Grande España, y Bravissimo Maestro!!
Thank you to give such a powerful hommage, and to bring such beloved souvenirs in my memory.
Andre Segovia, Julian Bream, John Williams are all beyond compare in their mastery of the guitar. What an excellent performance.

I've Listened to so many artists play this piece but In my opinion John Williams is the best. Perfect Tempo, everything comes together perfectly. Fantastic Playing. A dedicated Artist.
Agree, this tempo is perfect imo. It's usually played too fast to show off and the feeling in the melody is lost somewhat.
The maestro plays superbly. The best performance of this work that has ever been performed. my deepest respect.
Absolutely one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard

This piece by Isaac Albeniz; It is the expression of the maximum Inspiration. This piece feeds my soul, my body and my spirit..Supremely great....!!!
Relax....its a nice interpretion.....it not compelling or moves me to start feeling on myself....also genius he made a mistake on the 25th bar it is not a harmonic....so in short he ruined it....FOH.

Very good. RUclips has been clearing up a lot of mysteries for me.
If your dad could play this then he was great. Check out other classical guitar songs performed by John Williams, I bet you will recognize a few your dad played.
my dad used to play this for us when I was younger too. I remembered the rhythm and everything too and not the name 😂😂
Same, my grandpa could play this song beautifully until the day he died.
Congratulatons!!
Don't stain Asturias in a classic 5:50
This is one of the perfect jewels in my vault of life treasures! I love Williams’s clean, crisp sound.
While this is not my favorite interpretation of this song, i agree with you, Williams's always plays to perfection, crisp, defined, and clean notes.
I heard this once on a late night months ago and haven't been able to find it. Today is the day I have relocated this gem and can die in peace ❤️
A stunning performance where John Williams superbe technique brings the music to life. To me this is THE recording of Asturias.

As a metal guitarist I admire this guy and his style of playing
Around the middle end of his career he joined (or created) a band..blues etc….. was named top 5 guitarists ….
I play classical guitar and jazz piano most of my life the two diffrent styls only complete each other in many ways both require endless dedication you never stop learning ,i,m 77 years old...

There are a few RUclips clips showing them playing for folks to check out (searching "sky band" returns some). T-Rex's Herbie Flowers was also a member.
@@ChrisM541 Herbie Flowers as a band member before his tenure with Sky, is mostly associated with Blue Mink who had a no.3 hit single “Melting Pot”. Asturias is a fairly easy one to learn, look up some tabs, it's worth knowing
Same here, common issue i think
This is an unforgettable masterpiece
Simply unreachable, unreal. A technique out of this world. Perfection in every slightest sound.

He is a maestro, but check out Asturias by Ana Vidovic, you will notice the difference.
This piece is really easy its like old mac donald with the flamenco guitar
He makes that guitar sound like a quartet. Compliments to him and the composer.

John Williams.... the best Guitareplayer ever... what a Performance...
My favorite piece, played by my favorite artist, and done superbly.
Incredible ❤ thank You, I'm dumbstruck when I see the Archetecture of the Moor's, such Beauty.
There is more to this performance than its absolute flawlessness...
When this piece was composed, it was meant to be played EXACTLY this way.
That's why we can call it perfection...
Perfection would be using "its" and not "it's".
I'm french Canadian...
I corrected it@@pepmasters-999
❤ una caricia para el alma !
Not exactly. It was actually composed by a pianist to be played on the piano.
I think they're saying Tárrega composed this for piano, but with the guitar in mind. It's convoluted, but I think that is the case
This is the most Spanish thing i have ever seen. So fire 🔥
Amazing, sounds like a whole orchestra!
Passionate and subdued at the same time. One of the best guitar performances ever.
I have never heard a better rendition of Asturias than John Williams!
but he plays bar 37-39 not in the original way

The most fluid and neat performance ever! Wow! Timing is at microseconds precision!
The precision and clarity is remarkable.
I'm no expert but when I hear John play I hear a different class of guitarist. Total command, with such warmth and expression - and he makes it look so effortless.

Pablo sainz asturias
@@luisfernandes2522 I love Ana's version - especially her strums (which sound more openly than John's). But, really, the skill levels are very different. John's is on a different level. Ana's is more pop for the masses (though brilliant pop!!)
I’ve seen many other renditions by other great guitar players….and I have to agree with you that this is the best!
I've seen John live front row. It's breathtaking.
Me, too! You never forget it!

La mejor versión de esta pieza musical en la guitarra de John Williams, simplemente ¡ INSUPERABLE !
The ultimate guitar player. Note perfect.
I had Asturias by John Williams on VHS, I replayed it so much that it broke after some time. Thank you for uploading it.
Salute from Indonesia for Jhon Williams...great achievement
Whenever I look up a piece of guitar music to hear it played at the utmost level of perfection. I always stop and listen to John Williams. As a student of the great Maestro, Segovia. I know this is how to play it right, always. Segovia is smiling down on John, as he carries on his legacey.
I watched his masterclass many years ago in a very small theater on the isle of wight. The guy is a legend.
Masterpiece
Una verdadera obra de arte
I think he’s possibly the best of them all as a player. On top of that, he doesn’t pull any faces like the rest of them, which is great because that puts me off watching the rest of them
I know it sounds silly, but I truly believe that Albeniz wrote this for John Williams to interpret it many, many years after.
It is my hope that this version will be played in my funeral and I'm no even been born in Spain.
Greetings from Toronto.
Albeniz's original is for piano solo. It's challenging, but manageable with two hands. I agree with you in that John Williams was born to play this on the guitar however. The phrasing, the variety of colours, the technical perfection are unmatched! And it's one of the recordings I remember from my earliest childhood. Made an impact then, remains as impactful as ever decades later.
I learnt this piece a few years ago, but apparently I never understood it properly. This is astounding.
For the first part I'd say this version is the best I've heard. The second part has got to be Segovia though.
No one dead or alive can own that piece better than Maestro Williams..sorry if I hurt anyones feelings but it’s true.
In fact this whole film of him in playing in Seville is quite incredible.
🌹
Now go and listen to David Russell newest video of Asturias he has he has actually played it better than Williams but John is superb
It's not a competition... !!!
@@NylonStrings83 Russell definitely played it brilliantly. The acoustics in the room that Russell played in sounded better than Johns.

Classical guitar look so easy when i see J. Williams or A. Segovia videos 😮
So beautiful to listen and listen again.❤
As a fellow Melburnian, I have nothing by praise for John Williams. He is my inspiration. John Williams performed this piece many times, on many different guitars. Here he is playing a different classical guitar design, by Smallman, which has a very fast reacting top. I think it suits his idea of classical performing. He is using it to play in the impeccable higher tempo with less effort. It's not everyone's style, taste, or ability, but he makes it sound impressive and he is the best in that type of faster tempi adaptations. He is so precise, that you can tune your metronome using his playing. He also changed some fingering and some chords, so that he doesn't need to slide over 6-7 frets in a fast-paced tempo and destroy cohesion of the movement. In the middle section of the piece, too, he makes the theme feel more like a dance, etc. so he understands the subtleties of each part and delivers them cohesively. John thinks in terms of different themes within the same piece, and he audibly adjusts the mood in each, then transitions between them impeccably, as in best storytelling. It is not easy to play an impeccable tone, impeccable higher tempo, deliver all those nuances etc.
Not easy at all! Mr.Williams is a monster!
Here in Paraguay we are very grateful to him, because he recorded a full LP of Agustín Barrios songs. He visit us in 1994, he played in San Juan Catedral, were Mangore was born
@@qwargy Born in Melbourne, Australia, 1941. That makes him Australian. He moved with his family to London in 1952, when he was 11. He’s been back many times.
