"Mellow Yellow" is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. In the US it reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. (Both "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys and "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band kept it from hitting #1)
And here in New Zealand it reached #2 for one week, and 'Good Vibrations' kept it from hitting #1. Winchester cathedral had peaked at an earlier date at #3.

I knew it! I thought I was being a perv, but I was sure electrical banana had to be a dildo... 60's seems the right age for that to come in! Oh the dirty mind ;)
I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Mellow Yellow was just a rhyme.
@Alina McPherson when was he caught with a 14 year old??? care to back that up with a source?
@Alina McPherson what if he was 14 at the time too and singing about his crush??
Oh to be young and dumb again. It brings back memories of smoking banana peels and snorting nutmeg!
This Song takes me away from All the Bullsh*t😆💯❣
Don't be surprised ok, it's true I don't usually do this. But the pandemic has really tore everything apart leaving lots of people depressed and sad. That's why am pasting my personal email address here via: donovan00125@gmail.com to enable you share your opinions about my songs or send personal message you wish to share with me. My name is Saffron! It's a spice name!
That my parents got out of the Bible 73 years ago! I love ❤ this song 🎵
This is twice I've came here in 2022 for the same reason!!
How could anyone not like Donovan, especially if you're from the 60s ,you aren't smoking enough!
this song randomly popped into my head so I'm here now lmao
Weird, me too. I even got my trumpet out and played. Haven't played this in 40 years!
Lol same 🌼 so random [:
Same lol

Absolutely I listen to this all the time! It's great!
One of the sexiest songs ever
Keeping it simple, yet complicated...that was Donovan! Cool dude! Love him!
Donovan was on another planet when he wrote this. Outstanding!!!
Yeah, I think him and Harry Nilsson shared that planet, Put the lime in the coconut.... They're both great.

Still a banger in April 2023!
And so it is in January 2024!
It may sound like a throwaway pop song at first listen, especially because of the lyrics and since it's been used so many times in commercials. But this is not a throwaway song, but a really damn good pop song with one hell of a melody and it has endured.
Damn good listening!
Everytime i leave the store after buying a Mellow Yellow soda, I sing this song in my head.
Me too
"Mellow Yellow" is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Donovan. In the US it reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. (Both "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys and "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band kept it from hitting #1)
My real name is Saffron and they call me Mellow yellow 💛
Happy 2022
And here in New Zealand it reached #2 for one week, and 'Good Vibrations' kept it from hitting #1. Winchester cathedral had peaked at an earlier date at #3.
For years instead of "quite rightly ", my wife thought he said, "that's right slick".lol
Bob Hume I thought so too
Me too.
Same here
I thought it was quite right slick🤣
That's how I heard it too! Almost: I heard "quite right slick."
Родившись в СССР как много мы пропустили в плане западной музыки. Как же много хорошей музыки и великолепных исполнителей нам не дано было услышать.
U would be 81 today, WOW, TIME FLYS BY JOHN, GOD BESS U , THE ONE WHO WAS SO FAR AHEAD OF MOST
Gotta love the 60's horns! Where is Herp when you need him?
Me, eating saffron rice.
"I think I'll listen to the song that mentions saffron."
(listens to this)
Haha, yes. I am amused.
Stale Cracker Jack Box
Yah.. just made Briyani.
I sing this when I see someone drinking Mello Yello soda.
Columbian Gold
😁LOL
@@nina1522 see people drinking Mello Yello much these days?
I was six. This came on the radio instead of Del Shannon. What's a guy supposed to think...?
Me too. Same thing. I'm guessing that neither of us are now retired accountants nor plastic surgeons or dentists. Instead, we lived full and eventful lives ✌️
TIL the brass was almost excluded til Paul McCartney walked in and said it was fantastic. Good call
I was just laying in bed and this song blasted into my head.
This is heavy metal for aristocrats, love this song tho.
How so?
If you don’t mind me asking.
Silly me. It’s a joke. Sorry.

He Was A Good Trip !! In The Old Days !!! 5/30 2019
Steve, agree. I was 19 then, worried about the draft. Been reviewing my old music, before I'm dead. Was just listening to Sunshine Superman album - not a single track that I don't like, but I kept expecting Mellow Yellow, not remembering it's on a different album. Sucks being old. 6/16/2019
@@bogieviews Do you recommend any music from your younger years if you can remember, some of this new stuff doesn't cut it nowadays.
@@zoeyrose2905 It would be a long list. Off the top of my head: Bob Dylan Hwy 61, Bringing It All back Home, Blonde on Blonde, Neil Young After the Gold Rush, leon Russell Will O the Wisp, Country Joe and the Fish Porpoise Mouth, Buffalo Springfield, Rolling Stones 12X5, Them, The Yardbirds, Buddy Holly. And on and on. Here is a link where you put in the year and a bunch of songs come up. thenostalgiamachine.com/
Good hunting. If you want more, contact me again and I will overload you.
Thank you Donovan, You are so loved!
Donovan was genius.
I like album Yellow Mellow
and album Sunshine Superman. Talent and high style!
Many of Donavan's songs would work from their inception to the present day.
shit take
What an odd way of saying, "His music is still great today!"
The second album I bought.
The first was the soundtrack to "Our Man Flint" (Later that became too embarrassing to admit to. Much later I had to get it on CD.) The third was Julian Bream's "Lute Music From The Royal Courts Of Europe". The fourth and fifth were "Surrealistic Pillow" and "Sunshine Superman".
Boy this brings memories of my dad he always played this 😊 🎶 👏
Um still diggin' this jam 50 yrs later bruh. Dude Donovan still got it! U feel me?
John Paul Jones' contribution to this track cannot be overstated.
he played bass in this studio version?
@@marklawless8829 wrote the horn part
Lol thanks mom I miss you so much. Rip.
This song randomly gives me nostalgia. So good❤
Thank you, Donovan. 🎵💓🎵
Definitely not the music to listen to when you are just quitting substances. Am nevertheless always happy to come back here -
Uhh.. the mellow yellow was an “adult toy”..
this has to be one of the best songs of all time
It's a cool name! And a cool song!
