Arven’s story was the first one I completed. I wanted to help his puppy as soon as possible. And after completing the main story, I really wanted to give Arven a really big hug. He deserves one.

I don't care how many glitches there are in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, I was enthralled by the story progression, especially with the depth and personalities of the characters. Nemona, using the starter weak against the players on purpose, to see if we can match and surpass her in battle prowess. Arven, and his reasons behind his sour attitude at first, being his Mabosstiff being injured by ancient/future Pokemon, and how he didn't see his parents, the professors, in 10 years. Penny, and all of Team Star, and how they consider their friendship as their greatest treasure, and their desire to fight back against their bullies in fheir flashbacks. This has got to be on par with Gen 4 and 5 in terms of lore and story, and I love it, an 10 out of 10 for me!
Arven is the type of character I want in GameFreak he was so unpredictable that our thoughts about him constantly changed rather than most older characters who were very one dimensional.
Arven needs serious therapy tbh...Good God.

I will never get over how few people realized Nurse Joy literally tells you where to go next throughout the story.
But I did share the pain of the no shinies. Everyone I knew, at work and private, found shinies in the first couple days and I didn't for 2 weeks

When I first got Pokemon Violet I wanted to find my favorite pokemon Baxcalibur, so after being set free to explore, I went straight to where Frigibax spawns and after searching for a while, I not only found a Frigibax for my pokedex but I found a shiny Frigibax as well and it has since then been a permanent part of my team. It took me a solid 10 hours of hunting to find it considering the fact that shiny encounter sandwichs and the shiny charm were not accessible at that point in the game
It might not be an offensive powerhouse but Clodsire was the keystone of so many battles for me. I mean it's bulky; has three weaknesses, four resistances, and two immunities with Water Absorb; is generally immune to poisoning and Sandstorm; and most importantly it's shaped like a friend
If dangerous, why friend shaped?
I loved my Clodsire! He made for a great tank when I went in underleveled.
I named mine chadsire so that's some extra points right there

I just started vuiket. I thought I was following a story line by being selected to go on the bus trip. First pokemon was pooxhyena. 2nd pokemon was a shiny pooch. I didn't see how to get back to the others, so I reset.

I love how this starts as a heartwarming journey and ends in deicide.
I’ve learned that I’ve needed many things this last year. But Mikey saying “WHAT IS A GOD TO A NONBELIEVER?!” Has now made my year.
After watching Mikey's 12-part playthrough and being reminded during this video of Plummet's initial disobedience, I realise something: Plummet is basically Ash's Charizard - a powerful flying type that, despite having obedience issues, eventually starts listening to his trainer and goes on to be an MVP.

I am convinced wild slakoth is also a myth. Has to be the rarest Pokemon in the whole game. I also spent significant time hunting for one and ended up just breeding for it

Almost had to breed Applin cause I could only find one in a tera raid, and then I found one of it's evolutions in another raid right before I went to go breed. And of course, just yesterday I found where in game Bounsweet and Applin spawn IN DROVES.

Go to area zero, specifically where you get Roaring moon/iron valiant. All the shinies there are easy to see.

I feel your pain. Within the first week, most of my friends had at least 4 shinies. I beat all of the titans, Team Star battles, and got to the end of Area Zero and still never found a shiny. It was soul-crushing. I had to walk away from the game for awhile. I went back to Let's Go Eevee for some worthwhile shinies.

Found a lot of shinies on my first playthrough (in both Scarlet and Violet). Violet got Fletchling in the first thirty minutes and my Jumpluff in Area Zero. Scarlet found a Golduck while looking for a Roaring Moon for Pokedex. A Girafarig, Great Tusk and Zwelious in Area Zero, hunting for all with a sandwich. Just recently played Violet again on other switch and found a shiny Sneasel.

Eri is the only person in the entire main story to have ever defeated me. That’s pretty wild. And fortunately/unfortunately for you: I got my first shiny less than an hour into the game. As soon as I left my house and went down the hill with Nemona after getting my starter I got a shiny Psyduck.
I have since also caught shiny Rellor, and shiny Dunsparce (just before fighting Sada and finishing the story a couple nights ago).
If it’s any consolation, the Dudunsparce I evolved it into is the standard 2 segment, not 3.

It didn't take me until the Geeta battle to notice that not a single trainer uses potions in this game. From your rival battles to the elite four, not even so much as a super potion is in their inventory.
Wait, they don't? Because of my routing and me catching everything and thus basically being constantly overlevelled (because I went to Larry's gym as like the third gym or something and thought I had to grind up to that level), I tended to just curbstomp the gyms unless I deliberately used one poké with no items etc., so I never really noticed.
You not finding a shiny for so long reminded me of my playthrough with no shinies until after I beat the game, bested the post game, got six star raids, and made a shiny sandwich to get me a shiny skiddo. Found 2 shiny skiddo for my suffering off of that one sandwich boost. Their names a Butter and Parsnip and I love them both.
I played this game without looking at leaks or datamines and I will always appreciate how the game reveals the new evos by adding them to story teams.
My first time ever seeing Annihilape was against Eri, and it floored me that they gave Primape a new evo.
The future paradox Pokémon turning off when they’re asleep tricked me into thinking it was shiny way too many times. Another one that got me a few times is how dang blue Gastly looks in this game

The shiny was Pawmi that I quickly leveled up and named it Pawmilo.
Mikey legitimately dropped what is one of the best defensive, while simultaneously one of the most adorable, pokemon in the game will haunt me. Clodsire gang for life.
Agreed. At first I didn't plan on using it on my first playthrough team, but when I replaced Varoom with Tinkatink, I needed a poison type. I threw Clodsire back on the team like, "Eh, you'll do until I find something better." And then I kept him for the rest of the playthrough. He was tied with my shiny Kilowattrel for the third best on my team. Tinkaton and Annihilape were my A team, but Clodsire pulled his weight.
Watching this after watching Mikey’s full 10 hour play through was extremely fun because it refreshed my brain on all of the funny stuff that happened through the series without having to play “where’s Waldo” with the comment section. Great video and editing.
interesting that the name choice you gave your baxcalibur was from the dimetrodon when its based off the spinosaurus, either way both are very amazing prehistoric beasts and i love it!

Found a Shiny Maschiff less than an hour after finishing the tutorial. He was a great team member and Arven's story just made me love mine more
me too, but failed it as I thought it was just a gender difference and not a shiny. It still hurts that I failed my 1st Gen 9 shiny.

I can completely relate to not getting shinies early game. I got my first shiny after beating the game, being a full-odds shiny Chaney. I soon got full-odds shiny iron bundle and shiny lechonk though.
I'm glad you got your Charcadet to evovle early. I didnt find out how to evolve it until it was already lvl 60 because I decided to be lazy and not check the internet. Only good thing was that I have beaten up more than enough Bronzor and Bronzong so I could easily just get the item. I had also found a shiny Hawlucha pretty early but it wouldnt listen to me because at that time I only had 3 badges and I had found it in the North Province (Area One) so It was at lvl 50. I spent a lot of time fighting pokemon and exploring instead of the main stories because I enjoy open-world games for the exploration but as a result had super overlvled pokemon.
This went from summing up a series to a descent into madness about shiny’s. Nice

I only got my first shines after beating the game, but it was worth it because I got them both within a minute. I found a shiny phanpy, then, when battling it, I noticed a shiny flittle behind me.
I was playing Violet while listening to this video in the background and I found a random shiny Houndour during a point in the video where he was talking about not getting any shinies yet
Simply put; this is the most fun and actual _Adventuring_ I've had in a Pokémon game since gen3.
It's amazing We can get to hear stories like yours and others - and they're all virtually unique in their little or large way. I'll never forget the thrill of catching 2 Lv40 Pokémon on my way to Alfornada doing a massive trek via a precarious cliff path; all with 0 Gym badges!

1:11 I decided to count how many days passed (based on the bright blue sky) and I counted 5 days passing.
Fun Fact: It's actually possible to get climbing before gliding on Koraidon/Miraidon, since the abilities are tied to the different Herba Mysticas, and are not in a set order.

I knew this, because I did this in my playthrough. I couldn't beat the great tusk because almost all of my team was weak to ground and/or fighting so I just went "screw it" and did the tatsugiri/dondozo

I finished the full dex and full story, then spent 7 3-star shiny + encounter boost sandwiches to get an Iron Valiant. Their name is Jake and they are my False Swiper now

It's interesting that the movement upgrades you get are based on which herba mystica you find, not the order of when you find them, meaning that defeating the False Dragon Titan always gives you climbing, defeating the Open Sky Titan always gives you swimming, and so-on.

I liked Arven before his story... but the gut punch of feels made me absolutely LOVE him... especially since I own a dog myself.

His story reminded me of my deceased puppy cookie. She was poisoned by a snake and before I knew that, I blamed myself for her death. This just hit me to close to home.
I played through the main story of scarlet and violet without finding a single shiny. Probably a collective 90 hours between the two games. And then in the post game I was collecting the staffs for the ruin Pokémon. And I found THREE shinies in like one hour.

In the first route where Nemona gives you balls, I got a shiny pretty much immediately after she gave me some. It is the first of 2 shinies I have found, with the other being a marill I just recently evolved and built as a physical belly drum liquidators hitter for raids.
It's fitting that Gogoat was his first shiny after he used it on the randomizer where it was oddly the most powerful pokemon on that team. 😂❤
